The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 848: Open the Door to a Surprise
In fact, Li Qing could fully understand why Qin Wenjun did not hesitate to spend big bucks, disregarding construction costs, and pushed ahead with the schedule in silence.
Sanhe Village now has been hit by an unexpected windfall.
Whether they can hold onto this wealth depends on the results they can achieve now.
Those tourists, the mountains, the rivers, the dogs in front of the peasants’ homes, and the few warm kang edges in the village will eventually become boring. Without amusement facilities and more dining options, Sanhe Village might be like someone who has fantasized countless times about wine, suddenly falling into a vat of it; as good as it is, they could get choked to death after just a few sips.
Although Qin Wenjun had ignored the surging feelings within her last night, continuously pondering these issues in silence, Li Qing had to admit that her idea was indeed quite good.
Getting everyone involved in building a haunted house was quite an interesting idea.
Perhaps it could spark something different.
As long as this project could stay afloat, then the makeshift troupe of Sanhe Village would be considered set up.
Li Qing was very aware that his thoughts on many matters were too traditional because his understanding of society and new things was very limited, even to the point where he had only started to gradually get in touch with them now; he didn’t know nearly as much as someone like Qin Wenjun who had been exposed to broader environments and was educated.
But Li Qing had a high capacity for acceptance and could withstand a lot of scrambling.
This had always been the case. Now that he had money in his hands and was in his own village, he was very willing to invest millions.
After having a brief chat with Qin Wenjun and smoking a couple of cigarettes with Tang Jianmin, getting to know some of his thoughts, Li Qing left. It seemed that he was about to get busy.
He planned to work on the most basic infrastructure.
If nothing new came to mind, why not stick to the traditional?
He needed to artificially create an impression that the village was bustling, to give those who came to play more options, at least.
It was necessary to spend some money on this.
Simply relying on out-of-town business to come to them like in the past, during the market days, was obviously not reliable.
Upon returning to the village entrance’s little store, Wu Xingxing was already on duty.
She had also been quite busy these past few days; as the only shop in the village, they often ran out of stock. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Particularly consumables like alcoholic beverages, which hadn’t lasted through the previous day.
Li Qing saw that the shop was packed with people, so he didn’t go inside to make it more crowded. Instead, he found a seat under the big willow tree and sat down, dialing Lü Zong’s number. He needed to find a way to bring in a group of mobile vendors.
"Qingzi, where are you? I’ve been drinking tasteless tea; why don’t I see you coming back? Didn’t you say you were just going out to have a look? Did you fall into that beauty’s nest again and can’t get out?" As soon as the phone connected, Lü Zong’s teasing voice came through.
Li Qing furrowed his brows, "You’re at my house?"
"To be precise, I should say I’m at your sister-in-law’s house," Lü Zong laughed.
"When such a big boss like you comes, you should at least say something, let me greet you. You came without any sound, giving me a surprise?" Li Qing laughed.
"Ah, you got it right, I indeed came to bring you a surprise, to bring some warmth," Lü Changxi laughed. "Come back quickly, let’s chat. This is a big deal, my President Li, how can you be so slow to catch on!"
"Okay, I’ll be right there!"
Li Qing shook his head with a smile, put away his phone, and continued towards his sister-in-law’s house.
What kind of "warmth" Lü Zong could be bringing, Li Qing really couldn’t begin to imagine.
As he entered the house, Li Qing looked up to see Lü Changxi sitting in the courtyard drinking tea, accompanied by Gong Ge, Shangguan Yu, and a rather flamboyant-looking mature woman smothered in an imposing CEO aura. She looked to be around thirty, with light makeup, but her demeanor was no doubt that of a high-profile boss.
Jing Yan and the sister-in-law sat nearby, one gentle, the other with a cold and lofty demeanor, and they didn’t let their guests suppress the hosts’ presence. Especially Jing Yan’s ancient Princess Consort air seemed to make her stand out no matter where she sat.
"Qingzi, your godfather has finally arrived. Come sit down," Lü Zong greeted as he stood up.
His demeanor completely lacked that of a guest’s—it felt more like he was in his own home.
Li Qing chuckled and said, "Sister-in-law and Yan’er have guests over, how come nobody told me?"
"It wasn’t that I didn’t want to tell you, but Lü Zong stopped me. He wanted to give you a surprise," Han Mei said with a smile.
"If you’re giving me a surprise, then why call me in such a rush?" Li Qing laughed without much enthusiasm.
"I was just getting a bit too anxious waiting," said Lü Zong with a smile. He gestured towards the mature woman sitting to his right, "Let me introduce you first. This is Guan Ying’er, President Guan from Changxing Company. You know what Changxing Company does, right?"
Li Qing stepped forward and shook hands with the mature woman.
"I’ve been hearing about President Li from Lü Zong for quite a while now, young and promising, steady and wise. Seeing you today, I feel that Lü Zong was a bit too reserved and understated when he praised you," Guan Ying’er said, her face adorned with a politely measured smile.
Her hand was soft and warm, perhaps from just having had hot tea—it felt like holding a little furnace.
"President Guan is giving me too much credit. To put it bluntly, I’m just an ordinary villager, a common citizen. I’m far from being called ’young and promising,’ and even farther from the word ’wise,’" Li Qing replied modestly, letting go of Guan Ying’er’s hand.
"Not at all, you make a much better impression than Lü Zong made you out to be," Guan Ying’er laughed.
Lü Zong, somewhat unable to bear it, waved it off, "We’re all old friends here, no need for this mutual flattery. Sit down, let’s talk business."
Li Qing and Guan Ying’er shared a knowing smile and took their seats next to Han Mei.
"Qingzi, I just asked you if you knew what Changxing Company does, you should know, right?" Lü Zong asked once more.
Li Qing apologetically glanced at Guan Ying’er and shook his head, "I’m ashamed to say, I really don’t know."
"Oh, you, I find that you really don’t know much about Tongcheng," Lü Zong shook his head in disapproval. "Such a big company and you have no idea. I don’t even know what to say to you."
"It’s because you phrased it too obscurely," Guan Ying’er laughed. "Changxing Company has always been behind the scenes. People not in the circle might really not know what kind of company we are."
Then turning to Li Qing, she said, "Our company mainly works in fast food, cooperating to a certain extent with about 30% of the fast-food businesses you see on the market, such as Gold Burger, Mountain City Noodles, Yang Baifu—these enterprises have local stores that our company manages, mainly in Tongcheng and the provincial capital, with some involvement in nearby counties and cities, but not much."
Li Qing was somewhat surprised, "I really didn’t know that. I always thought they operated independently."
