The Heavenly Dao System-Chapter 48: Fatigued And Mentally Exhausted
Despite Ye Ming’s intention to flee the scene, it was only a pipe dream.
To ensure there were going to be zero interruptions, Ye Qing Lei automatically locked the space and time itself. With her cultivation, it was extremely easy for her to pause time.
Everything was under her control and nobody could go against her will.
That was the pinnacle of the cultivation realm that a cultivator ever wanted to reach! 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Mother, I really have no interest in sitting down for hours just to concoct a pill." Ye Ming pursed his lips and exclaimed. Most cultivation novels would have their protagonist sit for days to concoct the pills.
After all, they could have a time skip condoned by the author, but what about him?
He couldn’t just press the "skip" button but actually had to physically sit through the tedious procedure.
It was always questionable as to why cultivators never needed to use the toilet or eat during the concoction process.
Sure, one might argue because they were a cultivator and were one with Heaven. But please, if that was the case, then why did they ever bother to go to a tavern and order food?
Not to mention, why should they even rest?
’Mother can’t be that cruel to make me go through that kind of process?’ Ye Ming wondered silently. He was planning on putting a pitiful act to convince her otherwise.
Alas, it was destined to be a futile effort.
"Son, I’ve allowed you to behave unruly in the Clan Meeting, right? I have indulged in your behavior, so shouldn’t it be time for you to repay me?" Ye Qing Lei’s tone suddenly changed.
Although the tone was still sweet and gentle, there was an underlay of authority in it.
Sure enough, Ye Qing Lei was starting to impose some strict lectures upon him.
"Mother knows you didn’t want to lose yourself what you experienced on Earth so you didn’t assimilate with the memories. Mother is fine with that, but till now, you refused to cultivate or do anything useful to improve yourself." Ye Qing Lei exhaled deeply and gazed at him.
"Learning alchemy means having another means of offense and defense. My pills are not just for consumption, but they can also be used as a weapon. It will be very useful for you."
"..."
Silent, Ye Ming found it hard to refute her words. Alchemy was typically used by alchemists to gain fortune and fame.
After all, the pills they concocted would always be beneficial to cultivators.
However, not many knew that aside from consumption, the pills could also be utilized as a form of weapon.
Ye Ming understood it mainly because the stash of pills in his spatial rings contained weaponized pills.
Just when Ye Ming wanted to say something, he was cut off by Ye Qing Lei.
"Also, I’m afraid you have some form of misconception, son." She said softly. "I’m not your typical alchemist. Do you think Mother would waste hours just to concoct one pill?"
’Right, there’s no way Mother would spend that much time when her cultivation is that high.’ He shook his head unconsciously.
"Watch this."
Rather than speaking any further, Ye Qing Lei suddenly retrieved a large batch of herbs.
Just a single glance and sniff at the herbs were enough indication for Ye Ming to know each one of them was extremely valuable.
The atmosphere itself seemed to be consumed by the medical aroma.
"What types of herbs are these?" He raised the question, his eyes gazing at some unique-looking herbs.
One of the herbs held the appearance of a lotus, but the inside of the core was like a blazing flame. It radiated an intense crimson glow that pulsed like a beating heart.
"This herb is the main source of a Celestial Flame, Blazing Heart Lotus." Ye Qing Lei noticed his gaze and gently explained the herb.
"Celestial Flame?" Alarmed, Ye Ming raised an eyebrow. "You mean like the Heavenly Flame where flames are naturally birthed by the grace of heaven?"
"Yes, but not quite." Ye Qing Lei corrected. "Heavenly Flame does exist, but they are of inferior quality compared to Celestial Flame. Think of it like a small lighter versus the fire from a stove. What do you think is more intense?"
"Obviously the fire from the stove!"
"Correct, a small lighter could only produce so much intensity. It can’t even be used to cook any food, but a stove fire could burn brightly."
"Yes, just like wok hay." Ye Ming raised his chin up, feeling proud that he knew about the term wok hay. He might have ordered food from restaurants constantly back on Earth, but he did specialize in cooking egg-fried rice coated with strong wok hay.
"We’re getting sidetracked." Ye Qing Lei cleared her throat and exclaimed.
"I know you are still trying to get used to the ordeal, but now’s not the time to act foolish. Mother indulges you and there’s a limit." She continued, warning him to stop his intention in deterring the task.
Although she never voiced it aloud, her statement just now made it clear to Ye Ming that she understood his intention all along.
Ever since he returned to this world, he has been coping and struggling hard to adapt. It was truly difficult to even breathe properly. Thus, he resorted to acting in an uncanny yet provocation behavior from time to time.
The best method to deceive others was to pin them down a notch or trouble them enough to prevent them from being able to think properly.
This was why he constantly distracted Qing Lan by leering at her occasionally when things got serious. Unfortunately, she seemed unaffected and even welcomed the behavior, prompting him to eventually stop.
As for the Elder Dragon, he couldn’t afford to slip up and thus maintained his authoritative and somewhat abusive behavior toward him.
"Ugh, Mother really knows everything." Ye Ming exhaled deeply and plopped to the ground. He was honestly fatigued and mentally exhausted from having to pretend to be the bigshot or the so-called Young Master of the Ye Clan.
