Chapter 49: Acting Skill

Since his mother could easily foresee everything, Ye Ming was certain she had already pried through his mind. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have figured out many things all of a sudden.

As if understanding his thought, Ye Qing Lei also confessed that she did pry into his memories.

"When you were punishing the clan mates, I felt a loss as to what you were planning to do." She explained. "But still, I’m glad the gist of your action was still for the greater good of the Ye Clan. You might not attach much to the Ye Clan, but I can sense your desire to right the wrong."

"I’m not that majestic." Ye Ming let out a small laugh. "I just despise people who use their birth to throw their fit around. Nepotism is what I frown upon the most."

Although he no longer held the desire to get revenge from his last job interview, he still vividly recalled that damnable person who got the job solely because of his birth.

That bastard didn’t even qualify but got it anyway whereas he who qualified and was willing to take a lower salary was rejected.

"So are you saying that you hate your status?" Ye Qing Lei smiled bitterly.

"No, I don’t." Contrary to her belief, Ye Ming smirked and shook his head. "Back on Earth, I was powerless and could only idle my pathetic life away. But now that I have this status, I can do whatever I want. I’ll thrash anyone who I dislike with or without reason."

He was never the righteous hero type, but that didn’t mean he was a villainous type either.

Instead, he was the type who understood reality. On Earth, the reality was him being a powerless ant who couldn’t even take revenge. But here, he could finally do what he deeply desired and could even commence it.

Just the fact that he could lockdown a whole world on a simple command was evident enough.

He now held the power and status to overturn literally anything. And he would be a damn fool to reject such a wonderful event.

However, that could only be saved for later because the biggest crisis had simply begun for him.

"I’m glad that my son is no longer suppressing his desire and emotion. But you will still need to learn alchemy if you want to do so." Ye Qing Lei smiled sweetly and clasped her hands.

Soon, the environment around them changed. They were transported to a dark space.

His five senses seemed to be restricted.

"What’s going on, Mother?" Ye Ming had a bad premonition about the sudden change in environment.

Sure enough, his instinct was proven correct when Ye Qing Lei gave her an explanation.

"In this dark space, you are to correctly pinpoint the herbs I called out. If you succeed, then you pass. If you fail, then womp womp, you will have to remain here till you pass."

"..."

Speechless, Ye Ming didn’t expect he would one day face the sadistic side of his mother.

"But I don’t even know any herbs," he cried aloud in response. Without any knowledge of herbs, he was destined to fail from the start.

"Oh, yes you do." Ye Qing Lei suddenly corrected. "Amongst the memories in the orb that you absorbed, your Mother kindly injected her lifelong knowledge of alchemy in it."

She had long prepared for Ye Ming to study alchemy to improve himself instead of being fixated on the cultivation realm. However, it was indeed quite a shocker when Ye Ming returned with a new outlook on life.

He was no longer fixated on the cultivation realm. Hell, he seemed to be very carefree and nonchalant.

Although he also became quite lazy, Ye Qing Lei was actually more satisfied with the current Ye Ming than the past, who was always living in the shadows of hers and Ye Xuan’s achievements.

"W-Wait a second." Ye Ming suddenly raised his hand up.

"You actually inputted your own knowledge into my memory orb?" He continued and started to breathe heavily. He touched his forehead and lay on the ground, feeling extremely weak.

"M-M-Mother, I think your powerful knowledge is affecting me." He then said in an extremely weakened tone. He extended his hand outward, almost as if he was trying to grasp onto something for survival.

The current him appeared no different than a dead man trying to clutch any last straw it could possibly hold to survive longer.

The depiction was very real, except it could not deceive Ye Qing Lei one bit.

"I don’t know what you learn on Earth, son, but that kind of acting isn’t going to work." Ye Qing Lei mused. "At my level, I can easily perceive someone’s health naturally. So even though you appear to be in massive pain and on the verge of death, I know you’re actually very healthy."

"..."

Once again, Ye Ming was reminded about his Mother being literally in the endgame cultivation realm.

So what if his acting was Oscar worthy level?

It would never be able to deceive her perception.

Ye Ming frowned and stood up. He clicked his tongue in frustration.

"I’ve thought I escaped learning since graduating college. Why must I suffer now even though I got the biggest protection ever?" He complained.

Meanwhile, Ye Qing Lei was confused by the term college.

"When did you graduate from a sect?" She raised the question, having mistaken college as a type of sect.

"Uh... it’s not a sect. College is just a scam and hellish place for study." He tried to explain but to no avail.

After all, in the cultivation world, nothing was more important than cultivating to increase one’s strength.

The subjects that Ye Ming learned on Earth were impractical in the face of cultivation spells and whatnot.

Earth was just one of the many planets that didn’t even qualify to be considered a world. Hence, it lacked zero spiritual qi for people to cultivate, prompting them to rely on and resort to technology.

"Anyway, you’ve wasted enough time. Start juggling the herbs and use the knowledge I input for you." Ye Qing Lei clasped her hands.
