The Hero of Hypnosis-Chapter 52: Dog Monsters
Chapter 52: Dog Monsters
"Interesting. This village gets enough traction to have an Adventurer’s guild, yet they don’t. Instead, there is only a Hunter’s guild here, and they do the requests."
Kai, Gwen, and Tyria were in the Hunter’s Guild, looking at the D-Rank quests. He had already checked Tyria’s mana levels, and she was a Tier-3 mage, although he didn’t know what type of magic she used.
"You don’t know?" Gwen asked him.
"Huh?" He looked at her. "Know what?"
"Villages don’t have Adventurer Guilds. Only Towns and Cities do." She informed him.
"Animal Crossing?!"
"What?"
"Nothing. I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info. This will make finding work a lot easier. But it seems like they still do adventuring work here." He said as he looked at the request board.
"Well, yeah, they have no choice. Since there is no Adventurer guild, everyone with mana just stays in the hunter’s guild and works. It’s pretty common. Especially since the nearest Town is about two weeks away on horseback."
Kai nodded. "The more you know."
"Let’s do this! I think it will be fun!" Tyria grabbed a request from the board and handed it to Kai.
He read it, and it was a request to deal with Kobolds that were gathering in mining caves. Because of them, the workers weren’t able to get their jobs done properly and couldn’t feed their families.
"Sure, I like it. Gwen?"
She also agreed.
"Cool, I’ll go ask the receptionist." Kai left the group to confirm their quest.
"This is so exciting! I can’t wait to go on this adventure!"
Gwen smiled. To her, it was cute seeing Tyria act this way. She remembered when she first became an Adventurer, acting the same way as Tyria currently is. Unfortunately, whatever ideal image of this occupation she has in her head is, it will shatter the moment she steps into the shoes of an adventurer.
"Okay, I got everything sorted out. Ready to go?" Kai asked
"Yup."
"I was born ready!"
The three of them left the guild and headed to their location.
Looking at Kai’s party from afar, ten men wearing cloaks and masks were secretly spying on the party. They analyzed Kai and Gwen, seeing how strong they were, and confirmed if their target was with them.
"That’s the group. I spotted Princess Tyria." One of them confirmed.
"How did the previous squad get wiped out? I don’t understand."
"Neither do I, but when I went to the scene, it was a massacre. They didn’t stand a chance."
"My guess, a wandering knight or mage happened to cross their path. No way two d-rank adventurers could take on our people that easily."
The leader agreed. "Still, stay vigilant. We don’t know if that hidden master is still around."
"Understood!"
"Good. C’mon, let’s follow them."
---
"So, Tyria, what kind of mage are you?" Kai asked as they approached the mines.
"I can use water and healing magic. I’m pretty good if I do say so myself." She rubbed her nose with pride. "I had the best teachers growing up, and I’m studying at the Royal Academy."
"Yeah, that’s cool. What can you do?"
"Oh. I can use spells like water bullet, water shield, and water spout. As for healing, I can heal minor to major injuries. I can’t heal fatal wounds nor can I reattach or regrow limbs, though."
"Okay, now, let me ask you this. Have you hunted animals or killed monsters before?"
"Nope! That’s why I’m so excited for this. I can’t wait!" Tyria was too excited to understand what she was getting into.
"Have you seen blood before?"
She looked at him as if he were an idiot. "Of course, I’ve seen blood before. Students at the academy get hurt all the time. I can handle a little blood." She nodded confidently.
Kai looked at Gwen. She just shrugged. So, he sighed and accepted reality.
"Whatever, let’s begin." They stood in front of the cave. "Gwen, light it up. We’ll force those lizard bastards out of the cave!"
"On it." She raised her staff into the air, channeling her mana into it. Ten large fireballs and twelve large fire arrows formed in the air.
"Burn!" The moment her staff touched the ground, the spells flew into the cave, blowing it up from the inside.
The cries of the monsters could be heard as they scrambled to find an exit.
Kai drew his sword. "Tyria, prepare your spells, they’ll be out soon."
"Yes." She pulled out a wand from her shirt and prepared her water spells.
The moment her spells were completed, the kobolds ran out of the cave in a blazing glory.
"What the fuck?! Dog monster?!" Kai exclaimed with a confused expression.
"Kai!" Gwen yelled.
"Right!" He dashed forward, sliding the head off of one. On his hip, he grabbed the ice whip, wrapping it around a kobold’s neck, pulling it toward him, and stabbing the monster through the chest.
Kai continued to dash around the area, easily cutting down kobold after kobold. Tyria pulled her weight as well, firing her spells perfectly at the kobolds’ heads, instantly killing them. She was as skilled as she said, but her skill didn’t transfer over to real combat experience.
She didn’t know how to move around a battlefield, so she stumbled here and there. But the one thing that really caught Kai’s attention was the way she reacted to how gruesome the battle was.
From Gwen burning the monsters alive, Kai casually cutting them into pieces, and her killing them with precise headshots, the blood, guts, and death were weighing down on her. It was obvious that she was trying her best not to break down.
By the time they were finished, Tyria was mentally exhausted. Kai was fine, and Gwen was used to this.
"This...This was not how I expected this to go." She admitted, falling to her knees, feeling sick to her stomach.
Gwen, being the caring and loving woman she was, patted Tyria on the back.
"Welcome to the real world." She said, walking off to collect the monster parts.
"Was that everything?" She asked Kai.
"Yup. That was the last mine. We just need to collect the monster parts here, and we’ll be done."
"Sweet." She leaned in close. "Do you wanna have a little fun later?"
Kai smirked, grabbing her by the waist. "And what type of fun are you talking about?"
"Oh, you know, the bed kind." She whispered in his ear.
"I like where this is going."
They kissed, enjoying each other’s lips for a few moments.
"Let’s clean up and go back. The sooner the better."
Gwen nodded and helped Kai collect the bodies.
"Hey, Tyria, I know you might be feeling upset, but..."
Kai’s eyes darted to the trees, spotting ten people lurking in the shadows. An arrow was fired from a bow, traveling fast toward Tyria, who was on the ground vomiting helplessly.
