The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 164: Too good (3)
Chapter 164: Too good (3)
Hazel enjoyed looking around the outside of the palace as they rode on the horse. The tour was better when it was with someone she loved instead of the head maid who was quick to take her from room to room.
With just Tobias, Hazel was able to witness the beauty of the palace. If they got rid of a few people, it was not a terrible place to be.
As they rode, Hazel noticed the guards giving them strange looks and assumed that it was a bit odd to see a couple riding together. She would use the excuse that she was not well trained in riding a horse, even though she was, as to why they were together.
"You must admit that the palace is beautiful. It is the people that make it hard to see the beauty of it. Should we do a cleaning to get rid of them?" Hazel joked.
Tobias took Hazel’s words seriously as he would love to get rid of who was making the palace unbearable. "I plan to get rid of some of the men in the court. It will take some time for me to gather evidence as to why they must lose their positions. Just ordering them out of the court will have a bad look."
"As if you are abusing your power and want those who will say yes to every word around you," Hazel said, knowing this would be said by those he got rid of. "They’ll make you out to be a tyrant king. A king with no one to question his orders for the sake of the people. The kingdom doesn’t need that."
Hazel wanted some of the men in the court out of it as soon as possible but preferred that Tobias get rid of them the right way. He did not need to be said to be abusing his power so early in his reign. They should be fair rulers.
"I would have liked to hang all of them by the gates. That would have been more pleasing to me, but it will scare the town."
"Tobias, again sometimes I get the feeling that there is a lot more to you than your playful side. A side to you that I must be concerned about when you speak of killing others so easily. I feel like I am missing something that leaves me uneasy. Am I worrying about nothing?" Hazel questioned, curious.
It happened too often for him to just give a vague answer again. Now that they were married, she wanted to see all sides of him. The Tobias around her and the one around others.
"You feel that I am dangerous? I am," Tobias admitted. There was a point in time when he would plot or kill those in his way. "That side will never be shown to you. There’s nothing to be worried about."
Hazel couldn’t help worrying about the side of him she might never fully understand. Tobias was more playful than she imagined he would be. Just how was he when she was not around? She would be satisfied with just a tiny glimpse of it so she had a better idea of what she was missing.
Hazel shook her head, once again leaving this matter for another time. The picnic was in view and all she wanted to do was lay on Tobias’s lap whilst looking up at the passing clouds.
Tobias looked down at Hazel, thinking she was back to worrying about something. Had he scared her? He had no intentions of harming her. Wasn’t it perfectly normal that he would be different when he was around her than how he was with others?
Tobias stopped the horse before it got too close to the blanket filled with food and slid off to help Hazel down. She slid down into his arms as she got off.
Hazel left Tobias’s side to look at what was prepared for them. The blanket was placed under a tree which offered plenty of shade from the sun.
"Take it and stay close for when we need it. No one is to come this way," Tobias ordered the guard waiting to take the horse. He had made it clear that no one was to be around while they were here. No maids were needed to serve them and the guards were to be at a great distance. "How did I do, Hazel?"
Hazel turned to Tobias. "You did well. I should also compliment the maids who were here early to lay this out. Did you pick the books?" She asked, looking at the three books placed to the side.
"I did. I deserve credit for the small details I added," Tobias said, holding her hand to go to the blanket together.
Hazel could only smile as she couldn’t bring herself to tell Tobias she had read the three books already. Reading them over would be fun and she enjoyed that he had properly guessed books she would like to read.
"There isn’t any wine this time," Hazel noted. "Is it your doing?"
Tobias was confused by this as he had been specific with which bottles to bring from storage. The list he sent to the head maid was clear. How was it that they messed this up?
"I think the wine they served last night might be the last that I see for months. I am expected to have a child so I wouldn’t be allowed to drink. It is fine without the wine or any other drink you had in mind. There is plenty of juice. I love orange juice," Hazel said, trying to save the day.
Hazel would have enjoyed tasting more wine, but it was a small problem that shouldn’t ruin the moment. Hazel carefully sat down on the blanket to start pouring juice for Tobias. "Will you stand there or join me?" She asked.
Tobias was still upset over the missing wine, but seeing Hazel unbothered by it, he decided to let it go. He joined her on the blanket and instead of finding his own space to sit, he went right next to Hazel to lay on her lap.
Hazel looked down at Tobias lying comfortably on her lap with his eyes already closed. This was how she wanted to be on his lap but he was faster. Rather than ask to switch spots, she allowed him to stay as he was.
Tobias had gotten up early to take care of the blanket and get her dressed before the queen arrived. He had also sent out orders for the picnic and horse ride so he was deserving of a nap on her.
Hazel moved his hair back so it would not bother him as he slept. Before turning her attention back to the food and books, she leaned forward to leave a kiss on his lips.
Tobias’s right hand found its way to the back of her neck to keep her in place for the kiss to be more than a peck. He would fall asleep in the middle of the day more often if it meant he would be attacked by a kiss from Hazel.
