The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 219: Loss (4)
Chapter 219: Loss (4)
"King-"
"Where is the queen?" Tobias questioned, moving past the greetings.
"She is in here," Renee spoke, going to the door to lead Tobias. "She is sleeping now but you can stay in there with her. Don’t worry about proper greetings. You can go to her first."
"Thank you," Tobias replied, following Renee without offering Kenneth a goodbye.
Helena, who was sitting by the door with her mother before Tobias’s arrival, went to Kenneth. "Should I get you something to drink? That is all that father is doing now."
"No. I should stay in my right mind. I will look after your father for you," Kenneth said as Helena shouldn’t see her father in that state. "Where is he?"
"In his study," Helena answered. "Do you think they will be fine? Hazel and the king."
Helena watched as Tobias rushed toward where Hazel was resting. Her mother closed the door after he entered.
"We will know when we see them again."
Inside the room, Tobias found Hazel fast asleep on the bed just as Renee said. There were medicines and towels on the table beside the bed along with a tray of untouched food.
Tobias was light on his feet to not disturb Hazel. She needed the rest now as there was no telling if she could bring herself to sleep at some other point.
"Tobias," he heard his name. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Tobias stayed silent in case she was just calling his name in her sleep but then he heard it again and knew that she was awake. "Your mother said that you were sleeping."
"I heard the door closed and the only person they let in would be you. I lost a baby. The doctor wrote it off as pressure from becoming queen but that still falls on me. Everyone will be unhappy when they hear of this. That I failed to do something so simple. My one-"
"Enough, Hazel," Tobias stopped her below she could drown herself in guilt. "Doing this isn’t good for you. I don’t see this as your fault."
"You’re my husband. Of course, you would say that so I don’t feel bad. It’s my body. I was the one carrying the child and it didn’t last there. It was my duty to take care of myself and the child. Anyone outside of this home who hears about this will place blame on me," said Hazel.
"Not unless they want to die," Tobias answered, determined to protect her from any criticism "I will not allow their words to reach you. Didn’t your family inform you that we will keep this a secret?"
"Everything gets revealed in the palace. You’ve lived there longer than me to know," Hazel replied, not believing this would stay among her family.
Tobias sat down on the bed beside Hazel. "That only happens if you tell too many people or someone you shouldn’t have trusted. It is me, your family, and Kenneth. Do you not trust Kenneth? I’ll get rid of him right now."
"I trust him and he’ll kill you," Hazel answered, shifting her body to look at Tobias.
Tobias smiled, letting the insult of Hazel thinking Kenneth would beat him go. Later, he would give her a lengthy lecture about being on his side. "Then you have nothing to fear. I won’t speak of this to anyone. Your family will take care of the servants and I will do a little bit of threatening."
"I am sorry that I was too busy to be there with you," Tobias apologised.
"You had work to do and it was a trip just for me to be with family. You can’t," Hazel stopped, realising what others were telling her. "We can’t blame ourselves."
"I’m not upset about the baby, Hazel. What matters most to me is that you are safe. I’m not saying this only as your husband to please you. I say this like everyone you have seen today because we know that this wasn’t your fault. This was just something out of your control. So please, don’t give into the guilt," Tobias pleaded.
Hazel looked away from Tobias to hide the tears forming. "I still feel like I’ve failed my duty."
"Our marriage isn’t all about you having to get us a child as soon as possible. I know that’s what many want but I want to enjoy my time with you so I am more than happy to wait. Getting a child isn’t your one duty. Stop listening to what the court says."
"We are the royals, Hazel. Your duty is whatever you want it to be. During the times that we spoke about a child, did it seem like I was pressuring you? Did I cause that?" Tobias wondered.
Tobias was being playful when thinking of their future like any other couple would but that was for the future. There wasn’t a need to rush. He wasn’t like most to want children right away. Honestly, he was still unsure of how he would be with a child so that was why he enjoyed waiting for the right time.
"You didn’t. I wanted to surprise you with news so I made it something that you desperately needed in my head," Hazel realised. It was then all the talk about a baby came from the people around her. There was hardly a moment when she sat with someone that she hadn’t heard about a child.
"There are too many bad thoughts in my head and I can’t help it," Hazel confessed.
Tobias held Hazel’s hand and then laid beside her. "You need to get some rest, Hazel. Don’t think about the baby or anyone else. Just rest. I will be here when you wake up."
"What if I sleep until tonight? What will you do then?" Hazel questioned. He couldn’t stay here long because he had much to do. "I saw how messy your study was with things you had to look over."
"How could I leave when my wife needs to be cared for? Those things don’t matter to me now. I can send for someone to bring them here," Tobias answered, carefully moving Hazel closer to him. "You come before everything else so don’t believe it if anyone says otherwise."
"I love you, Hazel. There will come another time for us to be parents and it will happen at the right time. The kingdom will have its heirs in due time. Should I cut out the tongues of anyone who approaches you with questions about a child?" Tobias asked, willing to do it if she said yes.
Hazel laughed at his joke. It was the first time since she left the palace that she had laughed. "Then you would be called a tyrant. An evil king who goes around cutting tongues because he doesn’t like what is said. I don’t need you to do that. I need to learn how to block out when anyone puts pressure on me."
"I don’t want this one to be forgotten," Hazel said, referring to the miscarriage.
"They won’t be forgotten. We can think of something to do to remember after you wake up. It’s time to sleep," Tobias said, kissing her as good luck for the bad thoughts to go away.
Hazel snuggled close to Tobias. Her fears went away seeing that he wasn’t upset with her, just saddened by their loss. She was nowhere near ready to be her usual self again but with Tobias near, she could try.
