Chapter 227: Secret exposed (4)

Hazel stirred in bed, awoken by the noise coming from outside. "Why is it so loud?"

"Hazel."

"It’s too loud," Hazel muttered, turning to search for Tobias. "Tobias?"

Hazel opened her eyes as the memory of what happened earlier flashed in her head. "Tobias, what happened?"

Hazel was shocked by the sight of Tobias sitting on a chair beside the bed, his hands and clothes bloody. Hazel slid off the bed to go to him to check where he was wounded. "Tobias, are you hurt? Why is there so much blood?"

"He ignored my warning and went to the court so I had to kill him," Tobias answered. "It’s a mess in the palace right now so it’s best that you don’t leave this room. I will have someone bring something to fill your stomach."

"That doesn’t matter now. Tell me who you had to kill and why the palace is in a mess. Is it because of me?" Hazel questioned, fearing what happened after she fainted.

"You will have a new doctor to serve you starting tomorrow. Arlo is no more," Tobias revealed, staring at the blood on his hands. "He was a little mouthy and didn’t know how to save his life, all he needed to do was shut up. They know that we have lost a child. Not the first one. He believed that you lost one today."

"Another," Hazel said, horrified by this revelation. How was it that she would have lost not one but two babies? "He must have come to the wrong conclusion. My body doesn’t feel like it did last time. I refuse to believe that. It is too soon for that to happen again," she said though she did not know the topic like the doctor did.

"There was blood but I will follow what you say," said Tobias.

"The doctor knows more than me but I don’t feel like I did last time. I don’t want to believe that this body will not allow me to have a child. We must get you cleaned up," Hazel said, trying to distract herself. "You cannot stay covered in someone’s blood."

"Is it Arlo’s death that has the palace in a mess or discussions of what should happen to me? They won’t listen to me if I say that I don’t think I lost a baby. Truly, I wouldn’t believe me," Hazel confessed.

She was saying anything to stop her from believing that she was so weak that she couldn’t carry a baby for long. Hazel tried not to let her tears fall as she had to take care of Tobias. His hands were shaking and she didn’t know if it was from wanting to kill someone else or thinking that she might have lost a baby. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Tobias, let me help you get cleaned up and then we will continue to talk about what happened with the doctor and the state of the palace. Seeing you like this worries me," Hazel said, more concerned about him than herself.

Maybe it was because she had been through this already so she knew how to deal with what she felt or from still being in disbelief. Getting Tobias cleaned up would be a good distraction.

"I cannot have you clean me up when you should rest. I will wash up and then join you. I should have done it before you woke," he said, regretting that he didn’t. He had not long returned before Hazel had gotten up and sat on the chair to try cooling down.

Everyone outside this room was angering him by speaking of getting other women or being upset that he killed Arlo. Why was it a surprise that he killed the doctor? He had warned Arlo plenty of times that should he do something to cause Hazel harm he would die.

Running from the king to tell the court what he thought happened to Hazel today fell under a good reason to die.

"I don’t want to be alone," Hazel confessed. If he left her side, the thoughts that she was trying to ignore would win.

Hazel was already thinking of how much time had passed yet there was nothing positive from her being in the palace. There wasn’t any growth to her as a queen and she wasn’t bringing any good news for her duty.

Tobias didn’t want Hazel to have to leave her bed to help him get cleaned up but he had to let her after her confession. If he had gotten cleaned up when he had the chance, he could join her in bed. "You can come, but you will just sit and not tend to me."

"What is the noise? Are the men from the court near?" Hazel asked, now realising that the noise she heard earlier was the sound of a crowd of people arguing. "It sounds like they are down below. Are they requesting an audience with me?"

"What they want does not matter. Come with me," Tobias offered his hand to take her to the bathroom. Hopefully, it would be quiet there. He would love nothing more than for the guards to take position and fire arrows where the loudmouth men were.

"You do know that you can’t hide me in here forever. At some point, I need to go out to hear what they want to say. I would rather just get it over with. I can face them telling you to take more women to your side. I already had to bear with seeing those women inside the palace. I’m fine," Hazel promised.

It was upsetting that now she thought about Tabitha saying that Tobias did not belong to her again

"Hazel, I would rather you not get comfortable with anyone suggesting that I have other women. I will not have a child with anyone other than you. I can wait-"

"But the kingdom will not," Hazel finished.

The kingdom would get restless waiting for news of a child. It already was.

"I know that it is not something that you want so that is why I am not angry. I am aware of how much you love only me so when they suggest having more women, I will smile because I know what you will not do. I don’t want to hide here. It makes me feel even weaker," said Hazel.

Tobias raked his fingers through his hair. He had already made up his mind that she was not going to see those bastards today. "Tomorrow. Have more time to rest and think it over. Then, if you still want to, we can address them tomorrow."

"Okay," Hazel agreed. "Now, please get cleaned up. I don’t want the stench of blood lingering in this room."
