The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 229: The time is right (1)
Chapter 229: The time is right (1)
"Hazel, you said that you knew what they would speak of but you didn’t say anything about agreeing to it. You should know that none of them will let you forget what you said today and you won’t be able to go back on your word. You gave them what they wanted," Tobias said.
Tobias tried his best not to yell because Hazel wouldn’t deserve it.
"I know what I did. It was the only thing that would silence them. I didn’t give a time frame to how long before I would bring up letting you have someone else. I am just having hope in myself that I will have a child before you need to go through selecting another woman. Hopefully, this moment of peace will allow me that," Hazel replied, hoping for the best.
"They all have the time for when you should have a child by in their heads. They are not kind enough to wait. I want you to stop trying to race against time to have a child. Regardless of how much time passes, I am sticking my word," Tobias promised.
"You need an heir Tobias and if I cannot give you one, I am willing to sacrifice to have you share a bed with someone else. Just once," Hazel said as she couldn’t endure him speaking many nights with someone.
"It won’t come to that," Tobias answered. He loved Hazel too much to do that to her.
If he ever slept with someone even with Hazel agreeing, their marriage would never be the same. It wouldn’t be normal if it remained the same and they would be lying to themselves. Tobias wouldn’t like it if Hazel had to sleep with another man to become pregnant.
"I have a better idea. You do not throw me out when I come to your bedroom and we do the things that I have been suggesting-"
"It is time that I take my leave," Hazel spoke over Tobias so she would not have to hear about his suggestions again. She was going to hit him like she did the first time he suggested it if she heard it again.
"You’ll regret not trying it sooner. How about on the days when I need cheering up, you initiate it for me? I am even willing to take it as a birthday gift. Hazel," Tobias called, getting to his feet to join her out the door.
"Do not follow me, Tobias. After what we had to address a moment ago, I cannot believe this is what is on your mind," Hazel said, now questioning if she should take him to a doctor. There had to be something wrong with his head.
"But it puts a smile on your face. You have been frowning since we woke up and all through the night. Sharing my indecent thoughts can bring out something good, doesn’t it?"
Hazel tried to fight the smile but she could not. Tobias had succeeded in taking her mind off what she promised the court and all the other things that were weighing her mind. She slowed down to walk beside him as she was no longer annoyed by what he mentioned.
"I am the fool for always going back to your side after you annoy me," Hazel muttered.
"Then we’re both fools in love," Tobias concluded. "Would you like to spend the day with me? Offering your advice on what I need to look over?"
"I would love to," Hazel answered, finding that better than going back to being alone. "I hope there isn’t a mess of books where we are going."
"It’s not a mess, Hazel. It is how I organise."
Hazel shook her head at him as she would never believe that what she saw wasn’t a mess. "I will tidy it. Perhaps one day you will change this habit of yours."
"Not when it gets you to spend a few hours with me as you tidy," Tobias confessed. "One day you might admit that you call it a mess just so you can offer to clean it and be near me."
Hazel knew that was never going to happen as it was a mess. Still, she looked forward to which one of them would say otherwise in the future.
...
Over three years later, Hazel stood on the balcony of her room looking down at the garden below. A thought that had been in her head a few times appeared as she considered this being the time that she would jump and make the flower beds below the place where she would lose her life. Then it would all end and she wouldn’t have to feel sad anymore.
After the pain from falling, there should be peace right after as she would finally be able to rest. All she needed to do was sit on the rail and then fall.
After spending many years in the palace and being unable to announce news of a child, Hazel had lost all will to try and the pressure which had increased as each year went by was getting to her. If she could just bring herself to jump, then she could finally be free.
Hazel was tired of smiling, pretending that she was fine when there were guests in the palace. It was draining to keep the act up so there was nothing more for anyone to pick at. She just needed a moment of peace and her only answer to getting that peace these days was to jump.
"Hazel!"
Hazel turned around to face the one person who stopped her from going any further than she was at the moment. She couldn’t leave him alone. "What is it now, Tobias? Did you cause trouble?"
"Not me. Edgar did. Why are you outside in the cold air?" Tobias questioned, distracted by her not wearing something to keep her warm. "What is wrong? Something is off."
Hazel smiled to end his concern. "I just went out for a moment to see the flowers. What were you saying about Edgar?"
"He’s getting married," Tobias announced. "Well, he got married yesterday with only his wife and the priest present."
Hazel was confused as to why Tobias sounded upset. "Didn’t you want him to get married? I know that you have been trying to put him and Linda alone when they are in the palace at the same time. This is good news. We should send the two a gift. Who is his wife?"
"Alessandra Barrett. Daughter of Desmond Barrett. The same man whose title I’ve been looking to take away. He did this on purpose to upset me. I just know it," Tobias concluded as this was just like Edgar. "I must go visit him and this wife of his."
"I wouldn’t do that if I were you. He just got married so give him some time with his wife. There has to be a good reason why he chose now to get married without telling anyone. Doing it at night is a little odd, but what bothers me is not being invited," Hazel said as she walked to her bed to take a seat.
She continued, "I can see why I was not invited but to not have you or Rafael there is a little strange."
Tobias groaned, going to the bed to rest his head on Hazel’s lap. "You are not helping."
Hazel chuckled. She raked her fingers through his hair to try to calm him. "There is no need to get upset. She has not stolen your beloved friend from you. You wanted him to wed and now he has. We should look forward to getting to know his wife."
