Chapter 82: A Game Of Thrones

The atmosphere in the library for the rest of the night was surprisingly comfortable, despite what had happened earlier that day.

Adal sat behind his desk reading a book as he watched the sky turn dark outside. He had allowed Juliette and Penelope to sleep whilst he would stay downstairs and handle the night shift that he had proposed, to help settle the visitors.

His women begged him to help, but he refused. They already had to deal with so much during the day, it was only right that they had a relaxed night.

As for Willow and Collins, the two women had left not long after his speech. He had spoken to them both and eased their worries before they went home.

That left Adal alone in silence, but the silence did not last long.

A woman entered the library late into the night, and her bright orange hair caught Adal’s attention. It hung long past her shoulders and shielded each side of her extremely cute face.

The woman wore a black dress, and a black purse in her hand. She was of medium height, and her breasts were small, whilst her hips were wide.

She was a dazzling woman, and as she looked around the library, as though searching for something, Adal checked Sexual Partners to gather information on the woman.

I know that I was now meant to focus on other races, but surely one more human in my harem will not do too much harm?

...

Her information presented itself to him.

One partner... Interesting.

...

Wait, that name...

[Olympia Hightower’s Sexual Partners]

[1. August Frostsword]

Adal’s heart almost leapt from his throat. It was not the woman’s name that he recognised but rather than mans.

August Frostsword. Prince of the Icefall Kingdom, belonging to the Elves. The only type of elves who were slightly allied to the humans.

What on earth was one of the prince’s women doing here?

Adal kept a keen eye on her as she walked around. Her orange hair did a good job at hiding her pointed ears, and it seemed they had used makeup to make her pale skin seem darker than it truly was.

He thought about what he should do. Should he allow her to make the first move, or should he approach her right away? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Adal scratched at his chin in deep thought.

Then, the door opened again.

A library should never be so busy at night.

His attention was drawn away from the Snow Elf and brought to the front door, where a new figure entered.

It was another face Adal recognised, and once he spotted it, he struggled to believe that so many coincidences could happen at once.

It was the assassin Nimrodel Nevernight, no longer bothering to hide her Sun Elf features. Her bronze skin was on display, as her smaller body was barely covered by the white, Roman-inspired clothing that she wore. They fell from her smooth brown shoulders and wrapped loosely around her petite breasts.

Now that he could see her out of her dark assassin robes, Adal could see just how beautiful she was. Her face was angular, and her eyes looked like golden slits.

She had a cunning look on her face as her eyes landed on Adal.

But why was she here?

Does she know that there is a snow elf nearby

Adal risked a glance back at the orange-haired girl. There was a look of pure fear on her face as she spotted the woman who had just entered.

The other visitors were of course afraid too, but the Snow Elf knew that if the Sun Elf spotted her, she would be dead.

"Librarian, you’re easy to find. I only had to threaten one human for them to tell me where you were."

Nimrodel leaned against the desk casually, looking up at the blonde-haired human in front of her. She didn’t seem to care about the tens of eyes that watched her whilst trembling.

"I must be a lucky man, if such a beautiful elf has come to find a simple human like me. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

As Adal spoke casually, he kept glancing at the Snow Elf in the bookshelves. She was now clutching at her dress nervously, and biting her lip.

She really is terrified...

"Oh, don’t flatter yourself. The city will soon be ours, and I thought why not come and visit this place? You know, familiarise myself with the popular attractions."

"Well, you have come to the right place. Are you a reader? Perhaps I can find a recommendation for you."

"Pfft... Do I look like a reader, human?"

Nimrodel placed a hand on her hips and looked around. Her golden eyes seemed to be able to pierce through anything it looked upon.

Adal wagged a finger.

"No, you do not. But you would be surprised, there are books in the library that even you would enjoy."

Nimrodel raised a brow. "Oh yeah? Let’s see them then."

"Yes ma’am. Wait here, I will fetch one for you."

...

Adal left the Sun Elf by the desk and headed towards the shelves. He made sure to keep a smile on his face to let the visitors know that it was safe, and that there was nothing to worry about. At least for the humans.

He arrived at the shelf where he found the Snow Elf hiding, well out of sight. When the orange-haired beauty saw him, she tried to look away and go unnoticed.

Adal stood over her so that she could feel his presence.

"You are far from home, snow elf."

His words made her turn around. Her arms shivered as she folded her arms beneath her medium-sized breasts, propping them up slightly.

"I... I do not know what you mean." She said, trying her best to hide her northern accent.

Adal laughed. Then, he reached forward and brushed a strand of orange hair behind her ears, revealing their sharp points.

The snow elf blushed red and quickly went to cover them. As she did, Adal laughed again.

"H-how did you know that I was—"

"I will be the one asking the questions, ma’am. If you do not answer, then I can call that Sun Elf over, and let her deal with you instead."

"N-no! I am just an unawakened spy! If she finds me, she will surely kill me."

Adal knew that she was unawakened already, by using his system scanner.

"So you understand the situation. Tell me, what is the exact reason you are here?"

The Snow Elf, Olympia Hightower, hesitated for a few moments, as if giving up the secret would cost her her life.

After catching another stern look from Adal, who glanced over at Nimrodel, she decided that she would have no choice but to tell the truth.

"I... I am here on behalf of my lover, the Prince. His gracefulness has asked me to come and spy on the figures of the realm who might give him trouble when he comes to take the throne for himself. One of those names was Adal Alexandrus, owner of the Alexandrus Library... I’m guessing—"

"That is me, yes," Adal answered her question.

So I am a threat to the Snow Elves? A simple librarian such as myself?

The prospect of it made him laugh.

More importantly, though, Adal was beginning to see a war brewing. The Iglantians, Snow Elves, and Sun Elves each wanted to claim the Torn Kingdom for themselves. Not to mention, the Council that was once ended the Royal Family would also be trying to take the throne for themselves, and establish themselves as a Democracy, rather than a Monarchy.

There were so many playing parts, and Adal couldn’t help but notice that he was at the centre of it all.

"Believe me, I was not going to harm you. I was only here to—"

"You cannot harm me, ma’am. You have already exposed that you are unawakened." Adal cut the woman off immediately.

He could see the fear on the woman’s face. This time, it was because of him, and not Nimrodel.

"Now, the question is, who do I benefit from helping more? If I tell the sun elf that you are here, she will most likely take you to her king and have you tortured for information. This will raise my standing with the sun elves, strengthening my alliance as I aid them to take the throne. Now, if I help you, then you get to go back home to your precious prince. If I were to guess, you are just one of his many women. My saving you will not do much to help myself."

"Then please sir, do it out of the kindness of your heart!" The Snow Elf begged.

The kindness of my heart. Yes, I am a kind man when it benefits me.

Adal thought for a few moments, scratching at his chin. Afterwards, he smiled warmly and withdrew a book from the shelves that he thought would suit Nimrodel.

Olympia Hightower’s eyes lit up, as she saw the warmth in the man’s smile. For a moment, she thought that her life had been spared.

Then, he called out calmly.

"Nimrodel, a snow elf has somehow stumbled into my library. Would you come and take a look?"
