The Lycan king-Chapter 133
*Leonora*
The day was finally here. Not the trial day, the day we planned to visit Claire. I was a bit nervous, who wouldn’t be. I was going to meet with my abductors face to face. I was also going there to support Jax. I knew he needed this. He needed to get a bit of closure before the trial.
A part of me felt like he wanted to give Claire a chance to redeem herself. He told me that he wanted to ’hear her out’. I didn’t say anything, just nodded. What did he expect me to say? That he shouldn’t listen to her? That he shouldn’t give her the benefit of the doubt?
I felt so terrible because I had mixed emotions about this. I wanted Claire to suffer for what she did. I wanted her to be punished but I didn’t want Jax to lose his family. His people. I know I shouldn’t consider Luke as his family but they couldn’t deny it even if they wanted to. They were related. By blood. That meant a whole lot more.
In a way, I knew this was putting a lot of pressure on Jax. Choosing Claire meant that he was going to lose Xander and I and choosing me, meant that he would have to lost Claire. There was no way I was going to let her anywhere near me or my baby.
I didn’t need to even talk to him about that.
But in the midst of all these troubles, he was open with me. He communicated how he felt even the hard ones. As much as I wanted to lash out at him for having all these damning thoughts, I felt happy that he was comfortable with me. He looked at me like I was his partner and not just the woman he married.
"So you’re really going to see Claire?" Bethany asked me as we sat on the seats in the middle of her room. Xander was lying on his toy mat on the floor close to us.
"Yeah. Jax really wants to go and I promised I’ll be there for him." I said as I leaned on her shoulder. "I wanted to take Xander with me but knowing what happened during that terrible month, I don’t want her anywhere close to me and Xander."
"That’s fair." Bethany said and we just sat in silence. Xander’s coos were the only thing filling up the room. I was scared that Claire might try to harm me in retaliation. That’s why I didn’t want to take Xander with me and Bethany and Devon were the only people I trusted with him. I didn’t want to tell Bethany about how I felt at the moment because she would stop me from going.
"Time to fulfill my duties as a wonderful partner!" I announced and Xander raised his voice. "Yes baby! Mama’s going for some work and I’ll be back later to give you a lot of kisses." I said to Xander and he raised his voice. He was now over a month and I was ecstatic. He was growing at a fast rate and I could tell that he would easily be as tall as Jax. Most of his features were like Jax’s. Same hair, same eyes.
"Okay, remind me again." Bethany said as I got up from my seat. "I’m supposed to jiggle his legs after he eats?"
"Not just jiggle. I already showed you the movements. Just try and remember it. You have to do it or he’ll scream down this building." I answered her and she nodded. "Please don’t forget to also burp him after. It helps him relax and he sleeps faster when you-"
"I’ve been taking care of Xander with you. I’m pretty sure I know the ropes by now." Bethany said as she joined me. She walked over to Xander and picked him up bouncing him on her hip. "Say bye to mummy."
I waved at him. I didn’t want to hold him because I knew myself. I would change my mind just to stay back with him but I promised Jax and I wasn’t going to leave him when he needed me the most.
I gave them both a kiss on the cheek before leaving to meet Jax. I met him pacing in our room and he immediately walked out as I opened the door.
I took his hand and we made our way to the dungeon. I could still remember the time I had spent here with Noah. It was one of my worst days and I hated Jax for it. Jax squeezed my hand as if sensing my hesitation.
As we got closer to the doorway, I paused, making Jax stop walking. "Whatever goes on in there is not going to change what they have done, right?" I asked him and for a brief moment I could sense his hesitation. "You believe everything I told you, right?" I could feel tears gathering in my eyes as I waited for his response. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"I believe you. It’s not going to change anything. I promise." He said as he pulled me in for a hug. I think that was all I wanted to hear him say that he wouldn’t change his mind. I knew how much of a strong hold Claire had on him and I knew she would clearly use this meeting to her advantage. "This is just goodbye." He assured me and I nodded in agreement. We pulled away and walked into the dungeon. Jax spoke to the guards and they directed us to the cell that held Claire.
He opened the door and we both entered. Claire was seated on the floor with her head bent. She didn’t make a move as we entered into the cell.
"Claire." Jax called softly, trying to get her attention but there wasn’t any response.
"Well, well, well. If it isn’t what the cat dragged in." She forced out with a hearty laugh. She raised her head and she stared directly at me.
What did I do?
