The Miraculous Treasure Hunting System-Chapter 146. As You Wish
In the pitch-black space, illuminated by lamplight, lay a low tunnel. The group jumped down.
The tunnel was low and narrow, allowing only one person to pass at a time, forcing them to stoop and move slowly.
Gami, piloting his machine, led the way. Its four tentacles reached forward, carrying lanterns, with gun barrels already extended and pointed ahead.
Ed walked in the middle, with Jason bringing up the rear.
The three maintained this formation, cautiously making their way through.
The tunnel had likely been closed for years and was filled with a strong, slightly pungent odor.
Simple supports lined the sides; it wasn’t excessively long, and they soon reached the end.
"We’re almost there," Gami said, sensing the stone walls in the dim distance.
Hearing this, the two behind him grew even more vigilant and slowed their pace further.
"I sense it! It’s a spirit!" Lucilia’s voice suddenly rang out.
Hearing this, Ed quickly grabbed the rear of Gami’s vehicle and stopped. The machine halted immediately.
Sensing Ed’s unusual behavior, the other two stopped obediently without question. Their coordination was impeccable.
Ed remained silent, a bullet imbued with holy magic appearing in his hand.
Seeing the object, the two immediately understood, they had just used such a holy bullet to kill an evil spirit. This confined environment wasn’t suitable for fighting; it would easily put them on the defensive.
Jason was about to retreat toward the tunnel exit when a mechanical tentacle grabbed his clothes. He saw Gami in the cockpit point to the ceiling, then immediately close the hatch.
Seeing this, Jason understood. The crown temporarily placed on his head could emit holy light and imbue all his attacks with its attribute.
Jason’s magic already possessed a trace of the holy element, and this item amplified it, making it highly effective against evil spirits.
Thinking this, he nodded immediately.
The three squeezed together, exchanging positions. Jason took the lead, and the two men stepped back.
At Jason’s gesture, they advanced again, this time with even greater caution.
They painstakingly covered only a few meters, taking over ten seconds.
As the lanterns illuminated the area, they saw the entire scene at the rear.
It was the soul of a woman, her body a pale, translucent white with wisps of mist swirling around her. Her face wasn’t noteworthy, just that of an ordinary woman you might pass on the road and ignore after a casual glance.
She sat quietly on the ground in the corner, watching them, showing no intention of attacking or concealing herself.
Furthermore, this woman’s soul appeared perfectly normal, lacking the malevolent, eerie green hue, and she maintained a normal human appearance, save for her translucent, pale-white body.
Upon seeing them, a look of obvious surprise appeared on her face. "You’re in... thank goodness."
The three men’s guns were already pointed at her.
She looked at what they were pointing at, tilting her head in confusion. "Didn’t that lady notice the aura I emitted?"
Hearing this, their guns didn’t waver in the slightest, remaining fixed on the spirit.
At this moment, Lucilia jumped out from her mirror, clinging to Ed’s back, and made a shushing gesture to the spirit woman.
The woman immediately spoke. "Please don’t be afraid. I am not one of those evil spirits outside. I am just a soul trapped here. I will not harm you; I only hope to receive your help."
Seeing that the group did not intend to speak, she continued, "What I pray for is eternal peace, not this imprisonment."
Hearing this, Ed spoke first. "Who are you, and why are you here?"
The three remained vigilant, their gun barrels steady, fingers on the triggers ready to pull at any moment.
"My name is Jasmine. I was the former owner of this manor. In my previous life, I was a Toucher. You know Touchers, right? You don’t seem surprised to see me."
"Go on," Jason said.
Hearing his words, the spirit woman named Jasmine nodded. "This is my secret passage for hiding things. The day I was putting something here, I was suddenly struck by powerful magic, and my life force was drained instantly. When I woke again, I had become a spirit, imprisoned in this dark world."
She waved her hand, and the floorboards beside her suddenly lifted. This sudden action made the three even more vigilant, almost pulling the trigger. Thankfully, there wasn’t any third-rate novice among them to fire in nervousness. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
The floorboards lifted, revealing a skeleton. "That’s my body... a corpse. Well, you must forgive a lady who hasn’t spoken to anyone in who-knows-how-many years for her urge to confide."
After listening to the spirit’s story, Ed took a few steps back. He spoke vigilantly, there was no way he was going to believe a stranger’s one-sided story so easily, especially when the other party was a ghost.
"In that case, there’s nothing more to say. We can’t do anything about the darkness here. We’ll take our leave."
With that, the two others also took a few steps back, preparing to retreat slowly with Ed. This place wasn’t safe. The ghost woman didn’t seem to pose a threat, but who knew? It was best to leave before she played her hand.
Seeing their movements, the spirit woman immediately reached out and cried, "Wait, I need your help!"
However, the three men simply continued their slow retreat, ignoring her, guns still pointed.
"She really is just a spirit, like me," Lucilia’s voice reached Ed’s ears. She had suffered the same fate as this woman. Although their stories were different, she had spent countless years in a dark mirror and could understand this ghost’s feeling of imprisonment.
"You’re from the Church of the Holy Mother, aren’t you? I’m also a follower. Please, for the Holy Mother’s sake, help me."
Hearing this, Gami paused, and Jason stopped as well. The ghost woman had obviously hit their weak spot.
Seeing this, Ed cursed under his breath, thinking that even if the Holy Mother were here, she would call them fools. How can you believe a ghost? Anyone can claim a belief. How can you trust it? But sadly, he had no choice. Instead of putting on the brakes, he couldn’t just abandon them, right?
Seeing them stop, the woman grasped at the straw. "I saw the laurel wreath you were wearing. It wouldn’t radiate holy light unless you were a follower of the Holy Mother. I won’t ask for your help for nothing. I have many things on other islands; I’ll tell you their locations."
Hearing this, Jason looked at her and frowned. "Words are meaningless. Who knows if you’re just bluffing? Besides, the darkness here is something we can’t solve," Gami added from behind.
Out of consideration for their shared faith, they were willing to offer a simple explanation. Otherwise, they would have already left. They even slightly lowered their guard.
Jasmine quickly waved her hands. "No, no, I don’t need you to solve the darkness. I only hope you can find a way to guide me to the Holy Mother’s Soul Kingdom, so I can escape this place, truly die, and find peace."
As she said this, Ed clearly saw the intense struggle on Gami and Jason’s faces. This meant the girl was almost certainly a fellow follower. Her desired peace was to gain the Holy Mother’s help to enter her Soul Kingdom. Gami and Jason found it difficult to simply stand by.
They were true believers, members of a church that followed a real deity whose doctrines they upheld.
"As you wish then..." BANG!
Ed, of course, wasn’t a true believer of the Holy Mother; he was just going with the flow. Everyone knows the best way to free someone from suffering is to end their life.
So after saying that, he raised his shotgun and fired without hesitation, believing that if she were completely dead, she would definitely reach the Holy Mother’s kingdom.
"What are you doing?!" Gami shouted, having pushed him away at the last moment and saving the poor ghost’s life.
"Are you crazy? Do you want to kill her?" Gami asked, dumbfounded, a sentiment echoed by everyone else. Jasmine was scared to death, as the bullet had passed a few inches from her head. If Gami hadn’t interfered, there would surely be a hole in her forehead.
"But didn’t she ask us to send her to the Holy Mother’s kingdom? I was just fulfilling her final wish," Ed replied with an innocent expression. He knew what she asked for definitely wasn’t a simple killing, but rather something very troublesome.
However, he wasn’t a true believer and didn’t know about such rituals, so it was only natural for him to misunderstand her words and try to eliminate this additional trouble at the root before it became a pain in ass.
"She didn’t want you to shoot her! Just leave this matter to us and don’t make trouble, idiot," Jason scolded Ed before turning his attention back to Jasmine, who now realized there was an imposter among her would-be helpers.
Next time, she would have to think more carefully before asking for anything, who knew if someone might misunderstand again and try to take her life?
