Chapter 107: Lily Moves

Chief Elder Sekhem listened intently to Apollonia’s narration of their mission, what they found, what they encountered, the ghoul, and the survivor they found who Bahamut had tamed and contracted.

His golden eyes moved occasionally to look at the silent, blindfolded boy, and he could notice just how hard he was fighting to keep himself in check.

"So, can I see this survivor?" Chief Elder Sekhem asked, looking at Bahamut.

Bahamut stared back at him and nodded. He then proceeded to ask the system for help which it gave. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Bahamut opened his hand. For a moment, nothing happened. Then the air above his palm rippled faintly, like heat shimmering over stone.

The air above his palm shimmered faintly, like a mirage forming in the middle of the room.

A thin distortion spread outward, slowly widening. It stretched from the size of a fist... to that of a basket... and kept growing.

At first it looked like a mass of shadow, sliding out of the distorted space like thick smoke being poured from an unseen container. But as more of it appeared, its shape became clear.

It was a cocoon. Large and human-sized.

Bahamut stepped forward slightly as the last portion slipped free from the spatial tear and dropped gently onto the stone floor with a soft, heavy thud.

The distortion above his hand closed immediately after.

The cocoon stood almost as tall as a grown adult. Its surface was smooth but uneven, wrapped in layers of dark membrane that seemed almost leathery. Beneath that surface, shadows crawled slowly, writhing and shifting like living things trapped inside translucent skin.

They moved restlessly, sliding over one another, and curling and uncurling in slow spirals.

Every few seconds the cocoon pulsed faintly.

With each pulse the shadows tightened and pressed outward, briefly revealing the vague outline of a human figure inside before melting back into darkness.

The room grew noticeably quieter.

Elder Silvia shifted in her seat.

"...That is the survivor?" she asked under his breath.

Apollonia folded her arms, her wings slightly tucked behind her.

"Yes," she said simply.

Another pulse moved through the cocoon.

This time the shadows gathered along one side, forming what looked eerily like a hand pressing faintly against the inner layer before sliding away again.

Chief Elder Sekhem watched the cocoon in silence.

His golden eyes moved slowly across its surface, studying every movement of the writhing darkness.

Then his gaze shifted briefly toward Bahamut.

"You said you contracted whoever it is," he said calmly.

The cocoon pulsed once more on the floor between them, shadows rippling across its surface like a restless tide.

Bahamut just nodded in response.

"I see..." The room went silent for a few minutes before the chief elder spoke again. "Exildra will be special concern and priority. The healers will have access to the secret archives of the sect to find a cure for her. Her family has also been informed, so they will help us in her treatment. We will do everything necessary to help her... but we can’t assure anything. Even her parents are aware..."

Apollonia visibly shook, while they all turned to look at Bahamut. His face was still devoid of emotion, but they could see how hard he’d clenched his fists.

"I..." he tried to speak, but his voice broke.

"If you have something to say, go on," Chief Elder Sekhem spoke in a calm tone.

"I have a method to help her. If it fails, I will take responsibility. But I will need a catalyst for that... a Life Rose," Bahamut said, causing all the elders gathered to look at him in shock and surprise.

"A Life Rose? What exactly do you need it for?" Chief Elder Sekhem asked, intrigued.

"I will use it to inject my lifeforce into her, to fight against the parasite," Bahamut answered in conviction and determination. His tone even showed that if they didn’t accept it, he would still do it.

"Is this a proven method?"

"No."

"Hmm... I see. Since that’s the case, if it works, we get a new method for it, if it fails, be ready to face consequences."

"I don’t care about the consequences..."

"Sigh... Young love... Can you excuse us? A new mission will be given to you and your friend based on this. For now, rest, heal, and prepare yourself."

"Mm."

With that said, Bahamut de-summoned the cowgirl and left the room with Sel Ren, and Apollonia.

...

Bahamut with Ren on his shoulder, and Sel were headed towards the males’ section of the Outer Sect residential area when a red-haired fox-kin girl rushed towards them. Her face was a bit pale from who-knows-what, and she was sweating. They had their backs to her, so they didn’t notice her until she shouted.

"P... please I want to talk you!" she blurted out loudly, causing them to stop in their tracks and stare at her.

Sel spoke first.

"Us?"

"No..." she answered while looking at Bahamut, making Sel realize instantly who she was referring to. "Him. Just him."

"I’m not in the mood," Bahamut replied coldly.

"Just three minutes... Please?" The girl pleaded.

"I’m trying my best to tolerate you," Bahamut stated with a flat face devoid of emotion.

"Just talk to her. You can still ignore her if she’s not worth it," Sel jumped in. He took Ren off Bahamut’s shoulder, patted him with an assuring smile and left the two in the middle of the road. It was almost evening, around 4 P.M. The air had become a bit cold and the sun was just dipping on the horizon, casting a beautiful scenery around them.

The tree swayed gently as sect disciples of all levels streamed towards the eatery to have supper and head back to cultivate.

Bahamut stared at the red-haired girl behind his blindfold, his arms folded.

"Three minutes..."

"Uh... Can we talk in some place more... private?" the girl asked with an embarrassed expression.

"And why should I trust that you wouldn’t do anything stupid?" Bahamut asked in a dark tone, causing her to shiver.

"I... uh... I have nothing to... I am Exildra’s residence mate!" she blurted out, causing Bahamut to look at her in both surprise and suspicion.

"Why haven’t I seen you before, then?" Bahamut inquired in suspicion.

"It is part of why I want to speak with you... in private," the girl replied with a firm gaze.

"I see... Let’s go somewhere... private. But mind you, if you try anything suspicious, I won’t mind breaking the rules," Bahamut said with a cold tone, making her shiver.

"Yes!"

’Fuck! I love him... So manly!’

If only he knew what was going on with her internally.

...

Bahamut stood with his arms folded as he stared at the fidgeting fox girl like she was the funniest creature he’d ever seen in his life.

"Your three minutes is almost up..." he said in a mocking yet cold tone, causing her to fidget more.

"Can I get more time?" she asked with a pleading gaze.

"I will consider it after you start speaking."

"Uhm... Okay," the girl nodded and took in a deep breath.

"My name is Lily Kurama. I’m the disciple of Elder Derek and also share a residence with Exildra."

Just the name of Elder Derek, made Bahamut’s body language change. Lily could tell that he was tensed up and prepared for a confrontation, making her heart thump wildly in her chest.

"Elder Derek, huh?" Bahamut’s aura pressed on her, making her legs almost give out. Her eyes glowed as she tried to fight back, but Bahamut grabbed her by the neck and pinned her to the wall.

His face was just inches away from hers, his breath on her face, making her blush uncontrollably, though Bahamut took it as she was struggling to breath.

"Whatever you are planning," Bahamut said in a low, dangerous voice, tightening his grip slightly, "drop it now."

Lily’s back pressed harder against the wall as his aura bore down on her like a crushing weight.

"I’m not in the mood for tricks," he continued, his voice colder than before. "If this is some game Elder Derek sent you to play, then you picked the wrong person."

Her fingers clutched weakly at his wrist, but there was no real struggle in it. Her tail swayed wildly behind her, betraying the storm of emotions running through her.

Bahamut’s blindfolded face tilted slightly closer, his voice dropping into a near whisper.

"And if you have any ulterior motives," he said, "I won’t mind going the extra mile."

His grip tightened just enough to make the threat clear.

"I’ll kill you."

The words hung between them like a blade. For a moment, Lily simply stared at him. Her cheeks were flushed were flushed a deep red, while her breathing became uneven. Her eyes glowed a deep red.

The unexpectedly... she smiled in a relieved way, like she wasn’t feeling the pressure nor the pain he was inflicting upon her.

Bahamut’s brows furrowed slightly beneath the blindfold, as he stared at her in confusion and surprise.

Lily spoke, her voice coming out hoarse but steady. Her glowing eyes locked onto his face, unwavering despite the danger.

"I’ve fallen for you."

Bahamut’s grip paused for the briefest moment, but Lily continued before he could speak.

"So bad that I can’t even think straight anymore. I can’t stand it..." Her tail swished again behind her.

"I don’t care if you kill me," she said, her voice trembling but firm. "If that’s what it takes to prove I’m not lying... then do it."

Her fingers slowly loosened from his wrist.

"I’d rather die trying to make you believe me," she whispered, "than walk away pretending I don’t feel anything."

Silence filled the narrow space between them. The air felt strangely heavy. Bahamut stared at her for a long moment, his grip still around her neck.

"Do you realize what you are saying? Do you know that I am in a relationship with Exildra?" Bahamut asked coldly, his grip tightening again.

"I don’t see her around you. I heard she left for a mission," Lily replied with a victorious smile.

"And you are trying to use this chance to get in her place... Coward," Bahamut commented in disdain, his expression filled with disgust.

"I don’t mind being a coward..." Lily still smiled.

"Are you sick in the head? I am in a relationship with Exildra. I love her, she loves me. I don’t have the energy to deal with you."

"I heard she’s in a coma..."

The pressure on Lily increased as Bahamut pushed her into the wall, cracking it. Blood leaked from her mouth and nostrils but she was still smiling unreasonably.

"You are crazy..." he stated coldly as his hand transformed into claws.

"Crazy for you..."

Bahamut, for the first time, was dealing with a being he couldn’t find reason with it. He would choose the ghoul anytime than to deal with Lily.
