The Psychopathic Beast Emperor-Chapter 74: Across the Wall
As Bahamut headed back to his residence, he met Sel on the way. It seemed that he had been watching the clash from afar. The subtle smile on his face said it all.
"Tch! You could have joined, you know?" Bahamut said in a low tone.
"You are the rank 1. I can’t steal your shine," Sel responded with a chuckle, making Bahamut narrow his eyes in annoyance.
"You are the acclaimed strongest new disciple. What do you want to hide?" Bahamut shot back with a smirk, making Sel stop in his tracks.
"Nothing of your concern," Sel responded coldly.
"..."
"Let’s get going before we get into more trouble than we already are," Sel added and walked off. Bahamut followed after, chuckling.
Everyone had something to hide. He shouldn’t have pried. It was his mistake in the end.
...
Not so far from the duo, a pair of deep blue eyes watched them. On full appearance, it appeared to be a feminine being with large and beautiful butterfly wings, hovering high up in the sky. Her face couldn’t be seen, but her eyes and wings were on full display.
’They already took care of Hakon and his lackeys... Just what does the Pharaoh want me to do with these two...’ Elder Silvia thought as she watched them stealthily dodge a senior on patrol duty, and enter their residence.
’A devil and an angel... or rather two devils... It’s going to be a long year,’ She thought with a sigh as her wings flapped once and she disappeared from the place.
...
Across the huge and tall wall that separated the male section from the female, two girls in their residence stared at each other like they were archenemies.
The female section of the outer district was much smaller compared to the male section because of the small number of female disciples. Most females either went to academies in the cities or stayed at home to do menial jobs. Only a select few chose to come to sects.
Sects were known to be very dangerous places because of how harsh the requirements to join were, how harsh trainings were, and the number of deaths per year. Sects weren’t for the weak-hearted, especially women.
For the female section of the outer district, because of the small number, the residences weren’t grouped according to positions, or such, like how the male section had a place for direct disciples, and even with that, each elder had their own area.
For the female section, there were only two groupings: the normal disciples and the direct disciples. That was the only change. As for residences, two disciples under two different masters could share a single residence, and that was the case with the two girls staring swords at each other.
Once again, if stares could kill, then both of them would have died one thousand times already.
The room shuddered as the two predatory auras detonated against each other like colliding storms. Lamps rattled, curtains tore free, and the stone beneath their feet groaned as if reconsidering its loyalty to physics.
Lily’s tail flared outward, her fur bristling to its very tips, with each strand standing like a blade drawn halfway from its sheath. Her pupils thinned into slits, glowing a molten amber that burned hotter with every breath she took. The air around her warped, vibrating with feral pressure.
Exildra, on the other hand, didn’t move. That’s what made it worse.
She stood straight, her shoulders relaxed, her hands at her sides, with her blonde hair lifting gently as if brushed by an unseen current.
Her eyes glowed with a cold, measured intensity... like a hunter who had already decided where to strike and was merely waiting for the prey to finish posturing.
The killing intent between them thickened until it felt wet.
"He’s mine," Lily snarled again, her voice lower now, vibrating from her chest rather than her throat. "Say it again. Say my name when you think of him."
Exildra tilted her head, her lips curling faintly.
"You don’t even cross his mind."
That did it... Lily roared.
The sound wasn’t human: It was a fox’s scream stretched through rage and humiliation, raw enough to make the walls crack. Her aura exploded outward in a shockwave, lifting whatever furniture was in the room off the ground and hurling it aside like scraps.
Then she lunged at Exildra.
Claws flashed... five arcs of silver light ripping through the air, fast enough to leave afterimages. Exildra stepped back once, just enough for the claws to miss her throat by a breath. The floor where Lily’s strike landed split, leaving deep gouges carved into the stone like soft clay.
"You’re too obvious," Exildra said calmly.
Energy surged around her legs as she twisted, her foot snapping forward in a low, vicious kick aimed at Lily’s knee. Lily lept back just in time, landing in a crouch, her tail lashing violently behind her.
"Don’t look down on me!" Lily screamed. Her fur surged further across her face, bestial marking spreading as her claws elongated again. "You think time spent together makes you special?!"
"Yes," Exildra replied simply.
That word hit harder than any technique.
"I was there when he bled." She stepped forward.
"When he hunted." Another step forward.
"When he slept without fear."
Each word was a blade.
Lily’s breathing grew ragged, her aura spiked again, this time unstable, flaring wildly as cracks spiderwebbed across the walls.
"He slept on my lap," Exildra continued, her voice dropping, her eyes glowing darker. "Trusted me."
The room howled as Lily vanished.
One moment she was crouched, the next she was behind Exildra, her claws descending in a killing arc aimed at her spine. Exildra’s eyes widened out of surprise, but she twisted at the last second, the claws tearing fabric instead of flesh.
Blood splashed.
Both of them froze.
A shallow cut ran across Exildra’s shoulder, red blooming against pale skin.
"Oh," she whispered. "So you really want to die for this?"
Her aura erupted, heavy and suffocating, filled with intense obsession. The temperature in the room dropped sharply as pressure slammed into Lily like a mountain falling sideways. Lily staggered back, her teeth grinding, her claws digging into the floor to keep herself upright.
"You’re strong," Exildra admitted, her eyes blazing. "But you are scared."
Lily snarled, forcing herself forward despite the crushing pressure."I’m not afraid!"
"You are," Exildra said softly. "Afraid to approach him. Afraid he’ll reject you. Afraid that if you step too close, you’ll lose everything you built in your head.
And by the way... He also washed me in a stream."
Lily screamed and charged again, her aura tearing at the room like a storm unleashed.
The door exploded inward.
"STOP!"
A thunderous voice shattered the clash.
Both auras slammed to a halt mid-eruption, recoil blasting them apart. Lily was thrown back into the wall, coughing blood. Exildra skidded across the floor, her sandals carving lines into stone as she barely managed to stay standing.
Sect enforcers flooded the room, eyes wide at the destruction.
Two girls stood amid ruin, breathing hard, eyes still burning with unresolved fury.
And just like that, on the first night of admission to the sect, Exildra and Lily broke sect rules regarding fighting in residential areas.
Not like they were the only ones who did it that night, but they were the only ones who were seen and caught in the act.
As for Bahamut, Sel, and Hakon and his lackeys, they were safe... for now, at least for Bahamut and Sel.
As for Hakon, they were still lying unconscious where Bahamut left them, thereby breaking another rule of the sect that prevented people from sleeping outside the residences.
