"...What is this?" Neraxis looked at the ground, a massive frown on his face.

Jane had brought him inside the church, and near the pedestal, there was a single coffin lying on the ground.

He had seen one too many movies as a kid to know what this was, and Evangeline merely affirmed his suspicions.

[Yep, it’s a vampire. It’s still slumbering, but it looks like it will wake up very soon,] she said before jumping out of his stigmata tattoo and flying in her sword form to the coffin.

"Y-Your sword can fly?" Jane asked in disbelief.

Neraxis merely shrugged, approaching the coffin. "It flies whenever it’s excited."

Jane approached. "Do you want me to purify it...? What if there is some evil spirit hiding inside that sword?"

[...Tell this girl to fuck off,] Evangeline stated, annoyed.

"Jane, there is no evil spirit inside, so please mind your business," Neraxis said with a chuckle and stood right before the coffin.

Should I just swing it open and kill the vampire inside? Or is it friendly? he asked.

[That would probably be for the best,] Evangeline replied, sounding a bit conflicted. [...This one is from my bloodline, but he’s corrupted. Someone else had mixed their bloodline into him.]

I’m sorry to hear that. Neraxis was unsure of how to respond and reached for the wooden coffin before swinging it open.

As he did, the stench of blood hit their noses, causing his brows to furrow further.

"Is it dead?" Jane asked in wonder before walking closer.

However, before she could take even a single step, Neraxis pushed her back before gripping his sword.

In the very next instant, the blood shot out of the vampire, sending sharp spears flying across the room.

Despite their sharpness, it seemed like an attack made without being conscious, so naturally, it wasn’t as strong.

But there was one upside to this situation—

Immediately, Neraxis took out all of the empty potion bottles he had before filling them up to the brim with blood, humming in the process.

Yet his actions came off as a bit strange to Jane.

"Are you like a... blood collector?" she asked.

"Yep," Neraxis replied, not denying it as he filled the rest of his potion reserves.

In the end, he now had 10 Blood Potions, which would work as extremely high-grade healing potions.

These would be saved for emergencies—something his natural healing couldn’t handle.

Therefore, after he was done, he stretched and glanced at the vampire inside the coffin.

It was a man, and the fangs were definitely visible.

The hair truly looked like Evangeline’s, while on the other hand, its faintly opened eyes were blue, which definitely did not match her bloodline.

Do you want to kill him yourself? Neraxis asked out of courtesy.

[I... I do,] Evangeline replied with resolve and floated out from his hand, hovering slightly above the vampire’s heart.

He was expecting her to simply stab through. However, in the very next moment, the previously red sword turned slightly brown.

Its texture looked just like wood, and soon, Evangeline embedded the sword into the vampire’s heart.

"Ug—" A faint gasp escaped the vampire’s mouth, but it was too late, as its entire body began turning to dust.

Soon, Evangeline wordlessly flew beside him, and that was when the killing notification flashed before his eyes.

[Hahaha...] Evangeline let out a laugh, which had a tinge of sadness behind it. [It’s not even regarded as a normal vampire anymore... but a vampire turned into a monster... How revolting.]

Noticing the disgust in her tone, Neraxis gave her an offer.

Do you want to go kill the remaining vampires inside the other churches?

[Yes,] she replied plainly, and soon, Neraxis made his way out.

"W-Wait, are you leaving already?" Jane ran beside him, tugging on his sleeve.

"Jane, I want you to protect these people in the meantime. I will deal with the other bloodsuckers, okay?" he said, and out of instinct, patted her on the head.

That was enough to make her quiet down, as she simply nodded a few times before scrambling back inside the church.

He let out a chuckle before jumping onto the nearby roof and running toward the nearest church.

Not wanting to cause too much of a commotion, Neraxis entered from the back. Making sure no one was watching, he stood over the coffin and took out his sword.

Turn into... wood, I guess? he said, and soon, the brown texture returned.

As it did, he stabbed the sword through the coffin, impaling the vampire clean through the heart and not triggering the defensive blood explosion.

[1x (B+ Ranked Monster) Vampire! Reward: Stigmata 13.69% → 13.99%]

Neraxis proceeded to head to the next church and do the same.

[1x (B+ Ranked Monster) Vampire! Reward: Stigmata 13.99% → 14.29%]

And of course, one last time.

After they finished killing all of the vampires, Neraxis began hearing thumping on the walls, meaning a good portion of the skeletons were already threatening to break in.

Still worried, he asked, Evangeline, are you okay?

[Yes... I just don’t understand how this trial even came to be... How do they have the vampires from my world? Why?] she muttered in a low voice. [Even as much as I hate most of them... it sucks seeing your kin turn into monsters, you know?]

I can only imagine. Neraxis sighed. You can lean on me. Once I’m done with this trial—and the tenth too—do you want to go on a date?

[...You mean it?] Evangeline asked, a tinge of excitement in her tone.

I do, Neraxis replied with a smile, and just as Evangeline’s words were about to fall, a loud explosion resounded.

And as it did, he saw debris flying everywhere, along with a giant hole in the wall beside the Southern Church.

Fuck.

[Warning!]

[The Saint is in danger!]

Oh come on... Neraxis grumbled before blasting off the roof and quickly running back to the Southern Church.

Each of his steps broke the roofs, and the falling rubble created a barrier, making it harder for the skeletons to pass through.

But that was no assurance, as the Armored Skeleton Legion, as well as those massive skeletons, were a huge problem.

[Warning!]

[If the Saint dies, the scenario will not continue!]

Hm? Neraxis raised his brow at this new chain of messages.

This... I don’t remember seeing this on the internet, Neraxis thought with a frown as he finally reached the Southern Church.

It seemed like the skeletons had not yet arrived at the church because of all the rubble they had to get through. However, there was one idiot in particular who was rushing into the fight.

And that was Jane, the main subject of this entire scenario.

Jumping down behind her, Neraxis grabbed her by the waist and threw her over his shoulder again without a word.

"You! Let me go! Those foul beings have entered my city, so I—"

"So you want to kill yourself? Save it for later, Saint," Neraxis interjected. "Play the role of a healer, and I’ll deal with the rest."

His eyes narrowed, as in the far distance, near the very back of the skeletal army, Neraxis spotted a being he had not seen before. Enjoy new tales from novelbuddy

It was a skeleton donning completely black armor, and it had a glowing purple sword shining clearly through the scabbard.

At the same time, the horse it sat on wore similar black armor, looking just as intimidating.

Coupled with that, the black skeleton knight’s menacing helmet glanced in Neraxis’s direction, seemingly spotting him.

[That’s...]

That’s going to be a problem, he finished her words and placed Jane onto the ground.

"Jane," he got her attention. "Support me if I get hurt, and I’ll make sure this city doesn’t fall."

"Okay..." she reluctantly replied, and soon, the first batch of skeletons appeared in front of them, with several Armored Skeleton Legions behind them.

This really isn’t my fucking day.
