The Thorne of Destiny-Chapter 133: Boom! Rank 4 Talisman
Adrian was hoping that these individuals were just curious individuals who happened to pass by. Since they had not attacked him yet, he was hoping that they would just continue on their way after satisfying their curiosity.
However, his hopes were soon dashed away. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Hmm? Didn’t I say it? We were looking for you." Wraith No. 3 said while pacing a finger on her mask. Hearing this, Adrian gulped audibly before asking.
"What do you want with me?"
"Well, it’s not you, per se. You see, we were looking for someone else, but you happen to fit that description as well, so we thought we’d just pick you up as well."
"Well, since I’m not the one you are looking for, can the lady and her companions let me go?"
"Heh, unfortunately, that wouldn’t be possible. You see, now that you’ve seen us, there’s no way we could just let you go.
Plus. I’m also interested in the way you appear as a Foundation Establishment realm cultivator. Usually, even if someone is hiding their cultivation, the moment they start fighting, their true power would be revealed, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with you.
Even after you killed two guards in the middle of the street, all the witnesses still reported that you were just a Foundation Establishment realm cultivator.
That’s very interesting. Would you be willing to share your secret?"
"Surely the lady doesn’t mean that. If we-"
However, before Adrian could respond, he was interrupted by Wraith No. 4.
"What the hell is going on here? Let’s just grab him and go." Wraith No. 4 said with a snarl. He had lost patience listening to the conversation between Wraith No. 3 and Adrian.
Then, without waiting for any more input, he dashed towards Adrian, his figure vanishing from its spot in a blur. He wanted to grab Adrian by his neck, but at the last second, Adrian’s neck just barely missed his grip as his body vanished from its spot.
His body appeared about a dozen meters away, with the Skyveil sword now drawn. He could also be seen breathing heavily. At the last moment, he was able to activate Astral Steps. Channeling more Qi than normal, it was just barely enough to escape the grip of Wraith No. 4.
However, this wasn’t something he could do easily. If he hadn’t been paying rapt attention to all four cloaked individuals, and acted immediately he saw one of them move, he would have found himself in the clutches of Wraith no 4.
However, just because he did it once, it didn’t mean he would be able to do it again.
Beneath the mask, Wraith No. 1 narrowed his eyes when he saw what had just happened. It wasn’t just him; all four individuals were affected by what had just happened.
And with good reason, the man in front of them, whom they could only perceive to be a Golden Core realm cultivator, was able to avoid the grip of Wratih No. 4, a Nascent soul realm cultivator.
If before, they were only mildly curious about him, they were now very interested in him. Wraith No. 4, who was the one who was dodged, was not too pleased by the current development.
"You bastard!" He cursed in frustration. The fact that Adrian had drawn his sword also annoyed him. It was as if he thought he could actually fight him.
As a Nascent Soul realm powerhouse, that was no different from an insult to him.
"I was going to go easy on you, but it wouldn’t be a problem if you lost a few limbs as well." With that, a dagger appeared in his hand, and his figure blurred once again.
The hair at the back of Adrian’s head stood up, and sensing the danger, he quickly placed his sword in front of him to block.
Clang!
The sound of metal clashing against one another rang out as the dagger clashed against the sword.
At the last moment, Adrian was able to defend himself with the sword. It was an instinctive action that his body performed reflexively.
Seeing his attack blocked again, Wraith No. 4 was furious. He wanted to attack once again, but soon, his face under the mask turned grim.
Without hesitation, he leaped backward in an attempt to put some distance between himself and Adrian. However, he was not fast enough.
From Adrian’s other hand, a talisman that had already begun glowing brightly was tossed outward. The talisman disintegrated, and a bright explosion of flames engulfed the alley.
BOOOOM!
A loud explosion was heard that shook the nearby buildings. The inn, which was right beside the alley, was also not spared. Part of it was destroyed, making it visible to those on the street.
The inn manager, who had used his Qi to form a barrier and protect himself, could now be seen on the street. However, as soon as he realised this, his face fell.
His dark demonic Qi was now in view for everyone to see. It wasn’t just him. Other employees of the inn also had demonic Qi coming out of their bodies.
The people on the street who realized this snapped out of their shock from the explosion and exclaimed in high-pitched tones.
"D-Demonic cultivators!" It only took one person to yell for everyone else to also understand what was going on. As soon as this happened, all hell broke loose.
The people who were going to check on the situation immediately began running away, trying to distance themselves as much as possible.
The patrons in the inn, who were originally interacting with these cultivators, paled in fright as they also started running away. In just a few seconds, the whole street had become a chaos of cultivators frantically running away.
The Wraiths that witnessed all this had their faces darken. They had never expected this to happen. They thought they were just dealing with a crafty Golden Core realm cultivator, but they didn’t expect to face such problems.
Now, their identities were all exposed before they even found their target. This was the first time something like this had ever happened to them, and they couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
And the source of all this trouble was still standing in the alley with a dumbfounded look on his face. The talisman he had used was one of the ones he had gotten from the Hundred-Faced Thief.
With the knowledge from his inheritance, he had the basic knowledge of talismans without having put in any time to study them. However, he couldn’t tell the grades of the talisman he had with him.
He honestly just picked one that he recognized as an explosion talisman. His goal was to use it to attract the guards to this area, and hopefully use the commotion to escape from these individuals.
However, he seemed to have stumbled upon something shocking. He would have never expected that these individuals were demonic cultivators.
"You bastard!" The angry voice of Wraith No. 4 could be heard as his figure, which was previously engulfed by flames, was now visible. A similar dark and sinister Qi bellowed from his body, extinguishing the rest of the flames.
However, he wasn’t unscathed. His cloak, which covered his figure, was now in tatters. Even his mask had cracked. The area around his right eye was gone, and part of his face could be seen.
His arms were dripping with blood, and burn patches were all over his body. While they only seemed like surface wounds, the damage done to him was much more than he expected.
The talisman that Adrian had used was a Rank 4 talisman. He wasn’t expecting someone like Adrian to have such a valuable item, and was caught off guard by the scale of the explosion.
He could only put up his defenses and cover himself in Qi when he was engulfed in Qi. However, he was still alive. The fact that he was able to take the full brunt of the explosion and still come out alive was a showcase of his tenacity.
The other Wraiths, seeing the scale of the explosion, were able to quickly distance themselves from it. The rest of them were unharmed by the explosion.
Adrian, seeing all four individuals still standing, felt his heart sink. He was hoping to at least take out the man in front of him, but it seemed that wasn’t happening.
Now, Adrian could feel the killing intent from all four individuals directed at him, and this made him gulp in nervousness. He was already slowly backing away, trying to put even more distance between them.
"You’ll pay for that." This time, Wraith no 1 was the one who spoke. As soon as he said this, he vanished from his spot. His attack was even faster than Wraith No. 4, and with a blur, he appeared right above Adrian.
His dagger was too fast, and Adrian didn’t even have time to retrieve another talisman from his storage ring. However, just as the dagger was about to land on the Veil of a Hundred Shadows, a wave of purple Qi clashed into his dagger, blocking his attack.
