Chapter 134: Stand Off

A few minutes prior, Bella could be seen strolling through the streets of the city. She had grown bored staying in the City Lord’s mansion; therefore, she decided to have a better view of the city.

There was no tangible result from the task she had given to the City Lord. However, since it had only been a few days, she patiently decided to give them more time.

However, this meant that she was once again without something to do. As the Young Miss of the House of Vyre, she constantly had major responsibilities that she dealt with daily basis.

Her days were always busy, especially since her grandfather basically pawned all his responsibilities on her. Being without something to do made her feel uncomfortable.

That was when Elder Glenda gave her the bright idea of exploring the city.

Thinking about it, it made sense. She was the Young Mistress of the House of Vyre, though she didn’t show it. Stonehold City was one of their part of their territory and one of the most important cities in it at that.

The fact that she only knew the bare minimum about the city was something that wasn’t ideal. She wanted to rectify this mistake and cure her boredom as well.

However, since she was only strolling through the city, she didn’t want to bother Elder Glenda and decided to move around with just some guards instead.

However, these weren’t the same guards that entered the Misty Mountains with her. Those guards were only at the Golden Core realm, much too weak to provide any reasonable safety.

If someone who was truly a danger to Bella’s life were to actually attack, they would be unable to provide any reasonable protection. Heck, even the person they were trying to protect could squash them easily.

The only thing they would likely be able to do was to buy time for Bella to run away. Of course, this would have to be done with their lives, something that they might not be willing to do.

The guards this time were at the Nascent Soul realm. Their auras were powerful, and their strengths immense. They were also very disciplined and had a strange energy around them that made people wary of approaching them.

Since she was only going for a stroll, only four guards followed her. Two of those guards were hidden, and the other two were following her around like bodyguards.

She was admiring the items from one of the few stalls that were still open on the street when suddenly,

BOOOOM!

A loud explosion that shook the area could be heard quite close to the stall. As soon as the explosion occurred, all four guards immediately surrounded Bella.

They thought someone was attacking her and wanted to protect her. But soon, they realised that the attack wasn’t aimed at Bella.

Bella had a frown on her face. Not from danger. No. Not once had she ever felt like she was in danger. Even if the explosion was directed at her, she would still feel the same.

She was frowning because she noticed the inn that seemed to have taken the brunt of the damage from the explosion. As the dust and rubble cleared from the explosion, she noticed a strange black mist that swirled from the destruction.

She had an idea of what it was, and it was soon confirmed when she saw the spectators running away in a panic.

’Demonic cultivators, ’ She muttered inwardly.

Her face now was devoid of any warmth, and what replaced it was a cold expression that would send chills down the spine of any who saw her right now.

It was the duty of righteous cultivators to dispatch any demonic cultivators that they found, yes. But that wasn’t the reason behind her expression.

Unknown to most, the House of Vyre had a special grudge with demonic cultivators. Around twenty or so years ago, the Patriarch of the House of Vyre, alongside his wife were ambushed and killed by demonic cultivators.

The official story was that they lost their lives exploring a very dangerous secret realm, but those who knew the real story knew that it was the work of demonic cultivators.

That attack was one of the most saddest days for the House of Vyre. Losing two powerful cultivators in such short span dealt a major blow to the House of Vyre.

The old ancestor, who had already abdicated the role had to step back in as the Patriarch in order to govern the family and to ensure that things continued to run smoothly. Even though he had just lost his daughter and son-in-law, he didn’t even have time to grieve them.

However, the impact of losing two Immortal realm cultivators was evident to the whole continent. From one of the most powerful among the Twelve Great Houses, their ranking dropped quite a bit, making them much weaker in the eyes of others than before.

That wasn’t the only impact of their deaths on the Vyre family. Belladonna, who was just a five year old girl lost her parents suddenly. The young child was heart broken, and after learning that it was the work of demonic cultivators, a seed of hatred was planted in her heart. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

The image of her receiving that devastating news while holding her baby sister was still fresh in her mind. She could still remember how her younger sister who was just a baby at the time began crying after she heard the news as if she could actually understand what was going on.

After recalling those memories, Bella closed her eyes, trying to calm her emotions. She wasn’t that young girl anymore. She was now a powerful cultivator in her own right.

She exhaled slowly. When she opened her eyes again, they were devoid of warmth.

"Secure the perimeter," she said coldly.

The guards obeyed without hesitation. Together, the five of them sped towards the sight of the explosion. They quickly noticed the Nascent Soul realm inn manager.

Even without Bella giving any orders, one of the guards broke off from the group in order to deal with him. None of them could be left to escape.

They weren’t worried about being outnumbered. They were in the middle of the city, so news of the explosion would soon reach the appropriate ears. The city guards would be here soon to take care of the others.

Bella and the remaining three guards rushed towards the alley. Inside, they could see four Nascent Soul realm demonic cultivators ganging up on a helpless Golden Core realm cultivator.

Just as the poor man was about to lose his life, Bella brought out her whip and swung it, releasing a wave of purple elemental Qi that intercepted the demonic cultivator’s attack, saving the man’s life.

The demonic cultivator was thrown back, and Adrian used that opportunity to widen the distance between them. He quickly moved close to Bella and her guards.

He didn’t know who they were, but if they were fighting these guys, staying with them should be relatively safe. As soon as he approached, he was about to thank Bella for her help, but was cut off abruptly.

"Thank-"

"Leave this place quickly. This isn’t a fight someone like you can interfere in." Bella said without even glancing at Adrian.

Who knows what she would have done if she knew the person she was talking to? As members of the Twelve Great noble families, Bella could certainly recognize Adrian if she saw him. That is, if she actually paid attention to him.

Of course, Adrian was still wearing the Veil of a Hundred Shadows, so it didn’t matter if Bella was paying attention or not. Adrian wanted to retort. He wanted to ask her where she got the confidence to say such words as a Golden Core realm cultivator, but thinking about it, he held his tongue.

Not only had these people saved his life, but seeing that the woman was the only one holding a weapon, Adrian could deduce that she was the one who released the attack that saved his life.

If that was true, then she truly did have the capability to say such statements. He simply tipped his bamboo hat at them before continuing to run towards safety.

Now, with Adrian gone, the two groups faced each other in a standoff. The narrow alley could only allow two individuals to stand side by side, which meant that only the leaders of the two groups were standing face to face with each other.

Wraith No. 1 was staring at Bella with a dark look on his face. This was the worst possible scenario. He had never expected that he would have to face the Young Miss of the Vyre family.

Well, he was still facing the heir of one of the Twelve Great Houses, it just wasn’t the one he was expecting. And this was all because of that bastard. The more he thought about it, the more rage built up in him.
