Chapter 111: Ch 111: Offer to Join- Part 4

Senior Rudy walked away from the association’s office and back into a huge villa. The servants had already been dismissed and he poured himself a tall glass of beer before he chugged it away.

The glass exploded as soon as he put it down and he sighed.

"Do you have to make such a grand entrance every time you come to visit me, Rina? Surely, our lord won’t appreciate how destructive you are."

Rudy told the female that stepped inside his home.

Despite her human appearance, it was easy to tell that she was not a human. She was the high priestess Kyle and Lynn had faced and were not able to defeat.

The female sat down on the safe in the huge house as she gave Rudy a look filled with disdain.

"I don’t know how you can drink this poison, knowing what it does to your system. If you want to die, then there are faster ways to do that. All you need to do is tell me and I will help you out."

The female told Rudy and he let out a startled laugh before giving her a look filled with fondness.

"You’re truly funny. Anyway, what are you doing here? You told me that you had a few dungeons to check out the last time we met. Has that been taken care of?"

Rudy asked the female and she scoffed.

"Yeah, I took care of that. But the ceremony itself failed because someone interfered. And also, our lord seemed to have chosen one of the humans as well for something, so I had to back away."

Rina told Rudy and he paused to look at her.

"Our lord... chose a human... for something? Do you know what that something is?"

Rudy asked but Rina shook her head.

"How would I know what our lord is thinking? I just know that our lord chose to interfere and I had to back away. You better be careful regarding this as well."

Rina told the human-shaped demon she had come to visit and he just nodded.

"Hmm, I appreciate the warning you are giving me. I will take it to heart for now. Anyway, are you going to stay here for a little while longer? There are going to be fireworks soon. You might want to see it."

Rudy told Rina but the female shook her head.

"I cannot do that. I have more dungeons to visit and help out. Humans have the special power to reproduce, but the dungeons are on the verge of collapse. I am going to save as many as I can."

The female told Rudy before she stood up.

"Humans are a weird species. As soon as they awaken their hunter’s powers and dynamic, they lose the ability to reproduce with anyone who’s not compatible. An alpha-alpha couple cannot reproduce unless by special means. Doesn’t that sound like a familiar topic to you?"

Rudy asked and Rina paused.

Indeed, that did sound like the problem the dungeons were facing. But humans were still... different.

"So what if that sounds familiar? Humans are not what we need to look into, Rudy. Don’t you dare forget what our end goal here is—our lord should come back and grant us the blessing we are missing."

The female spoke before she disappeared into the black smoke. And just like that, only Rudy was left behind. But he was not in a hurry.

In fact, he felt like he had all the time in the world at his disposal currently.

"Now, it’s time for the fireworks."

"Kyle, can you turn on the T.V. for me? I am a little busy so I cannot do that myself."

Emma told me to turn on the T.V., so I immediately did that. As soon as I did, the whole screen lit up with a red and warm glow.

Something was burning up and I quickly turned up the volume to hear what was being said.

[-and due to the sudden fire at the association office... authorities are investigating how that happened. We will have more news soon-]

I looked at the screen and when I focused, I realized that the burning building in the background was familiar. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

It was the association’s office that was burning in the background, and the frame seemed to have completely disappeared.

[-what could have caused this unnatural fire? Let us go and ask our experts-]

The news anchor spoke as she walked around, but my eyes were focused on the flames that burned even the metal.

’How is that possible? How can the metal burn... unless... these flames are not normal flames. Can this be... an ability? But why would a human...’

I started to think when a sudden thought crossed my mind.

What if it was not a human but a monster that did this? That would explain the rudeness of the situation.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it did not make sense. There was just... too much context missing here.

Not to mention, the fact that a monster had gotten so close without triggering the alarm was concerning as well.

It would be easier to think that a human with abilities did this. There were too many people the association had screwed over anyway.

"Should I go and investigate?"

I asked myself but I had not even done anything when I received the message on my phone. Since the message was on my phone, there could only be so many people whom it could belong to.

And as expected, the message came from Lynn.

[We need your help with the matters regarding the association. I am sure you have already seen what happened. Do tell me if we need to take your name out of the team. I don’t want to burden you.]

Lynn told me this and I could not help but feel validated at being asked my opinion.

I knew I could decline and Lynn would allow me to hop out of the investigation. But I also knew that there was no need for me to do that.

[It’s fine. I want to be a part of this investigation. There are some things I need to check as well.]

More than a few things did not make sense and the fire itself seemed to be troublesome. And if I wanted to investigate, I needed some backing that would provide me with access to the association’s office.

"Kyle, are you in there? Do you need my help?"

Theo asked and he made me realize that my break was running a little too long. So I walked out of the bathroom and gave him a reassuring smile.

"Don’t worry about me, Theo. I just had an upset stomach. There is nothing you need to worry about."

I told the alpha, and he looked reassured.

He did not seem to know that high-class hunters did not get sick unless it was something majorly wrong with them, and I was not about to tell him either.

The more in the dark Theo was, the less he would worry about me. And that was something I wanted for him—to live a life free of worry.
