The Trending Topic Herself: The Villainess is the Superstar!-Chapter 157: As Long As You Have Legs, You Can Clear It
James took a deep breath and tried to clear his mind of all distractions, focusing solely on the balance beam.
His movements slowed considerably, becoming more stable than before.
With only thirty seconds left in the allotted time, alarms began to blare in the venue, and with each "beep," it felt as if an invisible hand was gripping the hearts of the contestants.
Alisa took a step back, looking at the balance beam with a hint of fear in her eyes.
She had felt confident when she first heard the rules of the game. She was attractive, always photogenic, so she was sure the photos taken during the game would turn out great.
Her looks were an inherent advantage, and she could stir up discussions about her photos. Who would have thought that there would be such a thrilling challenge before the photo shoot?
Brian glanced at the timer on the screen and said, "There’s only thirty seconds left."
At that moment, the two contestants had made it halfway across.
"James and Erin need to speed up; you still have to get to the platform for the photo. Time is tight."
Bella raised the microphone: "This round is quite difficult. Maybe they should be given more time to adapt; balancing is hard for them at the moment."
Brian nodded and shouted, "Come on, James! Come on, Erin!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a collective gasp was heard.
Turned out Evelyn hurried her steps, lost her balance, and fell off.
Immediately, staff members came to help Evelyn back up.
Brian sighed, "It’s such a pity. She almost made it, just a little more..."
Bella looked at Evelyn, who was back on solid ground, her cheeks glistening with sweat as she slumped to the floor.
"Looks like this round was pretty thrilling. You okay, Erin?"
Evelyn shook her head and covered her face, "This game... Oh my God, I never want to join again. Seriously, this game is not easy..."
Bella looked at her sympathetically, "You did well..."
Another gasp rose as James also tumbled off.
The audience let out sighs and murmured comforting words.
Bella said, "Can’t believe it... Looks like none of our first batch of contestants succeeded."
Meanwhile, the scoreboard flashed "zero" in red letters.
James sat on the ground with the help of the staff, his head hanging low, breathing slightly heavily, looking no better than Evelyn.
He had just dodged an obstacle, only to unwittingly step on another—a bar of soap.
Members of the FREE boy band immediately helped him onto a bench.
Julian looked worried, reaching out to touch James’s forehead, "James, I remember you have some acrophobia. Are you okay now?"
Miles said nothing, but the concern was evident in his eyes.
FREE always had a good vibe behind the scenes.
James’s lips were a bit pale; after a while, he waved his hand, "I’m fine, guys. Just a bit dizzy; I’ll be okay soon."
Brian and Bella came over to check on James and Evelyn.
Brian said, "It doesn’t matter if you failed this time. Just treat it as gaining experience. There’s a highest score record from two rounds of games, so rest well and get ready for the next round."
James gave a weak nod.
The other contestants nearby were on the verge of exploding, frantically discussing the methods to clear the challenge, analyzing and sharing their thoughts for better strategies.
This was obviously for maximizing their chances of success.
Maya stood at the edge, discontented with her position, she moved further until she was almost stepping off stage. She covered her ears, furrowing her brow irritably.
Leo, who was beside her, noticed her movements toward the edge and paused. He walked over.
"Maya, are you okay?"
Maya lowered her hand slightly, "I’m fine."
"They’re discussing balance beam strategies, some of which are useful. Why not listen? It might help with the next game."
Maya lowered her hand and dismissed the idea without a thought, "No need."
"Falling off will feel bad, I think..."
Maya snapped, "What’s there to discuss about such a lame game? Isn’t it just walking with legs? Only they need to gather to discuss because they’re weak. I’m so awesome, I don’t need to."
She finished speaking and plugged her ears again.
But covering her ears didn’t work. She could still hear Leo’s voice, just as she could hear the noisy chatter from nearby.
The second group of contestants was starting the game in front. Brian continuously spoke into the microphone, his loud voice mingling with others’ and was incredibly annoying.
Leo couldn’t help but chuckle and whispered, "You’re still so childish. You just don’t want to chat with them then? Let me analyze, and I’ll tell you."
Maya didn’t meet his smiling gaze, just nodded quickly, "You better hurry.
Soon, familiar screams rang out again as the second group of contestants failed too, complaining about the game’s difficulty.
Afterward, there were failures one after another... only five people succeeded, including Kiki Monroe.
During Kiki’s turn in the game, Maya found standing dull and decided to watch the excitement up close.
Kiki, truly blessed by fortune, had unbelievable luck as she swayed dramatically at least ten times due to poor balance, something that would have knocked others off, yet she magically crossed the balance beam.
In the final two seconds, all timers malfunctioned; during those few seconds, Kiki flashed a sweet smile at the camera.
Maya withdrew her gaze with interest.
A heroine is a heroine indeed, quite remarkable...
After Kiki finished the photoshoot, others surrounded her, asking about her strategy for clearing the challenge.
With only three people clearing it, she was undoubtedly impressive, and Kiki felt a surge of pride, especially seeing Maya eagerly approach, her indescribable sense of accomplishment reached its peak.
"I’m not that great... I don’t know how I managed, honestly. I felt I almost fell many times..."
Other contestants asked about her methods for avoiding obstacles.
Kiki bit her lip slightly, looking troubled, "Um... let me think... I wasn’t particularly attentive to it, at the time I was quite panicked..."
