The Unstoppable Comeback Of the Unrivaled Ex-Wife-Chapter 624
"Haze, you..." Joanna was helpless, so she just lay in bed again and waited for the infusion to be over.
Clara was relieved to see that Joanna was fine. She gritted her teeth and seemed to have made a decision. "Joan, you and Quinton should rest. Don’t worry too much. Quinton will be fine... I’ve got something to deal with, so I’ll go now."
Joanna frowned, sensing that something was off. Clara was usually casual and optimistic, but now it seemed like something was weighing on her mind. "Clara, is there something troubling you? Don’t feel guilty because of what happened, I know you suggested the surgery with only the best intentions. Don’t stress yourself out."
"No, that’s not it." Clara shook her head. "It’s a personal matter. Take care of yourself, and wait " She ran out of the ward before Joanna could ask any more questions.
Joanna sighed in worry as she watched Clara leave. "I know Clara, she must be blaming herself. I’m worried that she might do something stupid."
"Why don’t you stop worrying about others, and start worrying about yourself?" Haze touched her head lovingly. Most women were dependent, and could only rely on someone more powerful to survive, but Joanna was different. She was the one others relied on. She was stubborn and strong, but he hoped that she would one day give him the chance to protect her and take care of her.
After half an hour, the infusion was almost over. The second it ended, Joanna rushed out of the bed speedily.
"Wait for me!" Haze howled and ran after her.
The ICU wards were in a different block, and they had to walk for a while before reaching the floor Quinton was on.
Haze was right-even family members were not allowed to visit the ICU patients. They could only stand outside and look into the ward through the large glass panes.
"Quinton..." Joanna saw Quinton lying motionless in bed, and felt her heart ache when she noticed the many tubes attached to his body and the thick bandages around his face.
"Although Quinton is still in a coma, there’s good news. His face recovery surgery is successful, and if he wakes up, he’ll be a whole new person," Haze said enthusiastically.
Joanna shook her head, her eyes teary. "That doesn’t matter anymore... I just want him to wake up safely."
After this incident, Joanna had realized that one’s appearance didn’t mean anything. Being beautiful or ugly made no difference, as long as they were healthy.
"Don’t be so pessimistic. If the doctors say that he’ll recover, then he will," Haze comforted her. Others always flattered him given his identity and status, so it was rare to see him console others. Doing this much had already exhausted him, and if she continued mulling over it, he would become depressed.
Joanna took a deep breath and wiped away her tears before she forced a smile onto her face. "Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I’m stronger than you think, so you don’t have to rack your brain to figure out how to console me. I know it doesn’t come naturally to you, so I’ll try to be more optimistic."
"Well, I guess you found me out..." Haze scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly. "I’m not good at consoling people. I’m afraid I’ll say the wrong thing and make you mad eventually."
"No, you did great, and I appreciate that... Thank you for caring so much about my brother. Doctor Cromwell is very skilled, and I’m sure Quinton will get better if he treats him."
"Umm... As someone who is trying to court you, have I progressed any further in winning your heart?" Haze swallowed and waited anxiously for her answer.
"You can’t stay serious for too long, can you? How am I supposed to answer that?" Joanna frowned at him, looking perplexed.
"Don’t mind me, just answer honestly. I’m stronger than you think." Haze looked at Joanna imploringly, desperate to know the answer.
Joanna knew that she could not fool him given how serious he was, so she thought about it for a long time. "Er... Three percent. Yeah, three percent."
Haze’s eyes brightened. "Three percent? I thought you’d give me a negative score, but it looks like my hard work is finally paying off. I’ll get a hundred percent as long as I keep working hard, I don’t care how long it takes. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!"
"You... You’re so weird. It’s just three percent. Aren’t you mad? Why didn’t you say I was ungrateful?" Joanna didn’t want to give him hope, so she was about to say zero.
However, if she did that, he might not believe her, so she gave him a low number instead to make him give up.
Normal people would understand the implication when they heard that number, and might even feel humiliated, but Haze looked surprisingly smug. "Silly, three percent is very high for me. You used to beat me up every time I expressed my admiration for you in the past, but this time, you didn’t hit me, and even gave me a score of three percent. It proves that I have a chance, so why would I be mad? I should be celebrating!"
Joanna was speechless. She didn’t know what was so good about her that made him so obsessed with her. As expected of people who wrote codes-as long as they had their minds set on a type of software, they would keep on running it even if there were a lot of bugs. They were indeed crazy. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Umm... Since I managed to get three percent, can I ask for a small reward?"
Joanna raised an eyebrow. "What kind of reward?" "I... I want to hug you. Just a simple hug. Although you’re strong on your own, I want you to know that there’s someone you can rely on too," Haze explained sincerely.
Also, he wanted to see if she would hit him when he got close to her like last time, or if things would be different now.
"Okay." Joanna nodded and spread her arms. ’Come on then. Let me hug you." She felt that Haze did deserve a hug given what he did for her. She had been quite violent towards him in the past, so maybe she could make up for it through this hug.
"Umm..." Haze frowned when he saw her extend her arms wide as if she was about to hug her son. "If you hug me like this, people may think that you’re going to provide for me instead... Can we change our posture?’
"Why? Isn’t this nice? I hold Adie this way too, and he loves it very much."
Haze was speechless. "So, you’re going to hug me as if I’m your son?"
"Stop blabbering. Do you want a hug or
"Fine. I don’t care if you’re hugging your son or husband. I just want a hug," Haze mumbled, then leaned into Joanna’s embrace. From afar, it looked like a superior female boss was taking in a shy and weak young man.
"Be good. I’ll buy sweets for you if you’re good." Joanna suppressed her laughter and smoothed his head as she teased him. Undeniably, it was better to be a powerful person. Once she was rich and
free, maybe she would take in ten young men.
The atmosphere was good... until Ace walked out of the elevator. His cold gaze landed on the two people hugging each other, and he unconsciously frowned. "What are you guys doing?"
Joanna awkwardly let go of Haze, and was shocked to see Ace there." Why... are you here?"
"Why can’t I be here?" Ace always sounded fierce and aloof. ’What’s wrong? Did I stop you from having an affair with another man?"
