Meanwhile, the Lin's who had decided to show up announced at the Zhang family's main home had been in for a rough surprise because they waited for three hours, and not even a maid that worked for the Zhang's paid a courtesy visit to them at the main gates.

Nobody from the Zhang family that they were in contact with was answering their calls and when it came to Alix, it was even worse since she had blocked them both.

After such a long wait, frustration had kicked in and Lin Qianfan who was extremely grumpy decided that they should turn back and leave.

Their return to the Lin villa was met with questions. The first one coming from Qianfan's mother.

"Where is that girl?" she asked him.

Lin Qianfan was hungry and angry. For a minute, his frustration overwhelmed the filial piety he always prided himself in having and he exploded, shouting at his mother.

"Mother, can't you see that I am in a bad mood? At least offer me food first before interrogating me like a criminal? Why are you asking for that wench as soon as I walk through the door? Can't you start with welcoming me back or offering me a glass of water."

Grandma Xiu was taken aback as her son barked and glared at her fiercely.

"Brother, calm down." Lin Erya wrapped her arms around their mother's shoulders to keep her from exploding as well. Both mother and son had similar nasty tempers.

"Honey, I will go and get you something to eat right now." Jing Hee said.

It was not that she wanted to serve her husband honestly. The desire to escape Lin Qianfan when he was raging like this was stronger than her interest in watching him and his mother fight.

In an unexpected twist, grandma Xiu turned to Jing Hee before she could escape and shouted at her. "You should have done that as soon as you walked in. It's because you are useless that my son has shouted at me. You have really forgotten how to serve your husband. Even that dead one was better than you."

"Mother," Lin Erya nudged grandma Xiu slightly. Of what use was it t bring up the dead right now?

Jing Hee clenched her jaw and stuffed her anger down as deep as she could. She had a lot of that she wanted to say to the old woman but if she did, Lin Qianfan would turn on her.

Before Billi inherited Lin power holdings. she would swallow all the anger and bury it. The day was going to come when she could slap the old bitch and teach her a lesson before dumping her in the worst old people's home she could find.

For now, she would exercise caution and patience until that day came.

"I am sorry mother, I wasn't thinking straight." She lowered her head and her tone, and she apologized.

As soon as she left, Qianfan flipped over to his good side like a coin with two faces.

"Sorry mother, I am just angry because the Zhang's refused to see us. They wouldn't even answer my calls and that wench has still blocked me. As soon as the national holiday ends, I will go down to her little class and teach her a lesson."

Grandma Xiu refused to reply to Qianfan. He had shouted at her in front of Jing Hee and she felt disrespected. If he wanted her forgiveness he would have to do better.

Qianfan was nothing if not a good son. He lived to please his mother and he knew exactly what she wanted. "Mother, one of my friends own a jewelry store and they are having a national holiday sale. I have reserved a very beautiful set of jade bracelets for you. Why don't we go by tomorrow and pick it up?"

Grandma Xiu brightened up immediately and a smile formed on her lips.

"Really?" she asked him.

"Of course. I am your son, how can I not know what things my mother loves the most?" Qianfan bragged.

Grandma Xiu called him over so that he could sit down next to her. She patted his head gently smiling at him with warmth and heavy approval. Her smile was so broad that the wrinkles on her forehead dug deep into her skin.

"You are such a good son." she told him.

"En." he answered.

"Don't buy anything for your wife. She needs to learn how to behave better." grandma Xiu told him.

"Yes mother." Qianfan replied.

"'It's not like she has done anything good either. She failed to give you a son. I should have looked into her medical history before you married her. Thanks to her, the Lin family lineage is going to die with you." grandma Xiu continued on, ranting unhappily.

Qianfan looked around stealthily, leaned over and whispered something to his mother.

"What?" the old woman shouted.

Qianfan looked around and grabbed her arms. "Shhh!" he said.

"Tomorrow," grandma Xiu said.

He nodded and said, "Tomorrow."

Jing Hee was carrying a tray with some water, two glasses of fresh juice and one glass of Qianfan's favorite whiskey. She had been listening to them secretly with a burning anger in her eyes.

She didn't hear what Qianfan whispered to his mother but she heard the words tomorrow very vividly. They were not talking about the jewelry because they had been very loud about that. They were sharing a secret which they didn't want anyone knowing about.

If Qianfan thought that he could hide from her, he was mistaken. Her private detective would follow them closely and report all that they did to her.

She came out of hiding and dragged her feet loudly so that they would be alerted to her presence.

"I brought some drinks and the food is also ready. We can eat in ten minutes."

Normally, grandma Xiu would take this opportunity to complain about something. But this time round, she was in such a great mood that she didn't bother.

Instead, she watched Jing Hee with a secret superiority in her eyes and a smirk on her face. As always however, she could not hold her mouth back.

She took a sip from one of the glasses which Jing Hee brought over and said in a commanding voice, "Hire better maids, these ones don't know how men of the family should be served. How can lunch not be ready when it's so close to three o'clock? That fat one with small legs was annoying but she at least made sure got everything done in time."

She scoffed and went on to say, "If I let you be, you will starve my son in this house. If I had a grandson, how would he live under such conditions? No, don't bother, I will look for the new maids myself. It looks like I will be sticking around longer for this visit."
