Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 22 - School Opening Incident
22: Chapter 22: School Opening Incident
22 -22: School Opening Incident
Everything had been peaceful for several days, everything was normal.
It was as if the previously uneasy feelings completely evaporated.
Today marked the end of the summer vacation, and everyone was welcoming the new semester.
Gu Fan packed his bag and hopped on his bike.
While listening to music, he embarked on his journey back to school, considering how his long-lost classmates would spend their evenings.
After a half-hour ride, Gu Fan finally arrived at the university.
He parked his bike and hurriedly headed to his classroom.
Lu Yi and Jie had already arrived.
They beckoned Gu Fan over to a spot they picked near the corner and back door.
Their intentions were clear.
If the teacher was boring, they could skip out easily.
Gu Fan asked, “Great choice of seats.
What are we doing later?”
Lu Yi replied, “The new students have already reported and completed their military training.
The student union plans to hold a welcome party tonight.
You should stick around.”
“The welcome party will probably run late.” Gu Fan was a bit worried about being intercepted by a robber on his way home, and becoming the third missing person.
Of course, Lu Yi knew what Gu Fan was fretting about, he allayed his worries, “One of our dorm mates moved out temporarily, so they’re not coming back for a while.
You can stay in our dorm overnight.
It’s less comfortable than home, but it’s more fun living with everyone.”
“Cool.
I’m well acquainted with your dorm anyway.” Gu Fan was a frequent visitor to Lu Yi’s dorm.
He knew everyone well and often played video games together.
They had formed connections with several other dorms this way.
At that point, Lu Yi gave a knowing smile, “I’ll tell you a secret.
A friend from the student union told me that the quality of the new female students this year is really high.
He even saw ones comparable to Lin Xi.”
Hearing this, Gu Fan scornfully replied, “So, are you setting a target?
Are you planning to start a romance with Su Hui, or are you just aiming for a new student?”
“We’ll see how things turn out,” Lu Yi replied nonchalantly, earning snorts of derision from Gu Fan and Jie.
As they casually chatted, the class ended quickly.
Gu Fan wasn’t concerned about the lecture content, knowing the important value of self-learning in the library and undertaking real work such as participating in the student union.
He realized that being involved in campus activities was equally important for enhancing social skills.
Playing video games was another social interaction.
It tested your ability to bring diverse dorm groups together and organize collective actions.
The highest record set by Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie was to gather an entire floor of male students into their gaming guild, and then leading a successful raid against another guild.
The victory brought excitement all over the floor.
Gu Fan planned on including this achievement in his resume to showcase his organizational skills and the ability to handle group activities.
He had a notebook where he noted down any outstanding moments from college life, which could be useful in the future job hunt.
School usually wrapped up early in the afternoon, giving students ample time to enrich themselves.
Some spent their time idly playing video games, some joined club activities, and others worked part-time jobs.
The differences in how students spent these four years of college accumulated day by day.
Gu Fan split his time between the library, the student union, and organizing group activities.
His father had advised him on what he should do when he first entered university.
Just after the class ended, Gu Fan and Lu Yi received a message from the student union asking them to help prepare for the welcome party.
The goal was to ensure the newcomers felt they made the right choice in choosing this school.
Consequently, Gu Fan and Lu Yi rushed to the student affairs office.
Inside the conference room were students from the student union, faculty members, and department advisors all busy with their assigned tasks.
The welcome party was generally spearheaded by faculty members.
They prepared the plans, delegated the tasks, coordinated with clubs, such as the dance club.
Advisors organized their students, urging those with talents to prepare performance pieces.
Student union members prepared additional programs, helped with carrying stuff, and decorating the venue.
Behind the scenes of a welcome party was the hard work of many students. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
It was definitely not as simple as setting up a venue for everyone to talk, laugh, play games and perform.
As expected, Gu Fan and Lu Yi were allocated the task of helping to set up the venue.
It felt no different from the big cleaning days in elementary school, where the student council took charge of all opportunities for learning.
“We’re always running errands.
What’s the point of joining the student council?” Lu Yi muttered under his breath.
“When on earth do these people graduate?”
Gu Fan shook his head, “We just have to hang in there.
Everything needs to be done step by step.
This isn’t just true in the student council, but in society as well.
Nobody is going to give you opportunities that easy.
You need to do a good job at what you have at hand for others to see your potential.”
Listening to this, Lu Yi looked surprised.
“Bro, you’re only in your second year.
How do you have such profound insights?”
With this, Gu Fan gave a dry laugh.
“Didn’t you listen to our counselor in our first year?
He already taught us these principles.”
“Sorry, I probably zoned out at that time.” Lu Yi apologized with a smile.
He then spotted a few of the student council members discussing something.
They were also holding scripts and seemed keen on executing their plan flawlessly.
Senior students graduated and their positions in the council were taken up by juniors.
There were exceptions, of course––students who performed exceptionally well could be promoted ahead of time.
Both Gu Fan and Lu Yi hoped for this, even though it seemed a long way off.
To be honest, they didn’t want to run errands anymore.
They wanted to be involved in significant tasks, but there was no choice but to wait.
“Come, Gu Fan and Lu Yi, you two are responsible for placing all the balloons in their designated spots.” A student named Qian Chuan calmly issued the directive, his expression matter-of-fact about the task at hand.
Upon hearing their tasks, Gu Fan and Lu Yi were taken aback.
They raised an objection: “We have to inflate many balloons, collect them, and then place them in a specific location.
Plus, it’s only the two of us.
How are we supposed to complete this task in such a short timeframe?”
“Everyone has tasks to do, and we’re all busy.
No one’s complaining.
Why are you two the only ones with objections?” Qian Chuan replied, visibly displeased.
Hearing this, Gu Fan frowned.
Qian Chuan was part of Du Jun’s gang and was also a member of the dance team.
This connection enabled Qian Chuan to involve the dance team in school activities that required performances.
Du Jun was always willing to lend a hand, so the dance team often participated in various school events.
This impressed the teachers, resulting in Qian Chuan’s promotion to the student council.
Gu Fan retorted, somewhat annoyed, “Everyone has different tasks with varying levels of difficulty.
It’s perfectly normal to express objection.
It’s better to address potential issues first, instead of waiting for the task to be incompletely accomplished.”
Qian Chuan scoffed, “How is it not going to be enough time?
Your perception is based on doing your best, but we strive to do all we can with utmost effort.”
Lu Yi responded, “If that’s the case, take our task.
I want to see if your utmost effort can work miracles and complete all the balloon tasks.”
Hearing this, Qian Chuan got even more irritated.
“I have my own tasks to do.
Everyone can’t just keep switching tasks because they think they can’t complete them.
That would create chaos.”
Lu Yi wanted to continue arguing, but he knew that Qian Chuan was deliberately picking on Gu Fan, assigning him a time-sensitive and heavy task.
An imminent dispute was obvious, so a teacher intervened, “Enough of the arguing, everyone.
Since the task is now in your hands, you must complete it.
Don’t waste our already limited time.
Gu Fan, I know you can manage it.
Just think back to the tasks that you’ve done before, you should know how to complete this one.”.
After this, the teacher turned and walked away.
“Alright then…” An idea flashed through Gu Fan’s mind.
He was grateful for the reminder from the teacher.
He then left the room with Lu Yi.
As the two of them were leaving the room, the teacher watched them with a confident look in his eyes.
Qian Chuan saw this and was filled with contempt.
“A thousand balloons.
I’d like to see how you handle this.”
What annoyed Qian Chuan further was the teacher’s apparent praise for Gu Fan, thinking: ‘Could it be that in the teacher’s eyes, Gu Fan is the potential student council member for the future?’
After leaving the conference room, Gu Fan, with determined eyes, told Lu Yi in one simple sentence, “Call people.” Lu Yi knew what to do next.
He completely disregarded the previous dispute with Qian Chuan, dialed Jie’s number and said, “Hey bro, barbecue tonight, but before that, can you help us out?”
