Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 87: What Do You Really Want
Winston Valentine was silent for a moment. "Grandma, does it still make sense to discuss this now?"
"You’ve caused such a mess, where do we put the face of The Valentine Family?"
Yesterday, Winston had been scolded by Melinda Shelby at The Shelby Family for over an hour, and his ears were nearly numb. He was not in a good mood at the moment, "Grandma, when you forced us together back then, you should have expected this day to come."
"Even if I could think ahead, I couldn’t imagine you’d cheat and have a child!" Old Mrs. Valentine looked at him with disappointment in her eyes. "Even if you didn’t really like Vera, and wanted a divorce, why did you have to make things so embarrassing?"
Winston walked into the living room, his tone slightly mocking, "Embarrassing things in The Valentine Family are not limited to just this one."
Old Mrs. Valentine looked at his indifferent appearance, and clutched her chest in anger, "Are you too lazy to even pretend in front of grandma?"
Winston’s attitude softened a bit, "I didn’t handle things well and made you worry. But the divorce has already happened, so there’s no need to be upset."
Old Mrs. Valentine frowned, "You think you can just get divorced whenever you want? Go bring Vera back to me!"
"Grandma, Vera can’t tolerate betrayal. There’s no chance between us anymore."
"If you bring her back, everything I have will be yours. But if you can’t..." Old Mrs. Valentine’s expression turned stern. "The position of CEO at Valentine Group will have to be relinquished!"
After leaving The Valentine Family, Winston instructed the driver to take him to the hospital.
Cecilia Vaughn lay on the bed, her small face frighteningly pale. When she saw Winston, her face finally showed some vitality.
"Winston, do you know I’ve been waiting for you all this time?"
Winston looked at her face and remembered that evening many years ago.
In the dim alley, he was being beaten up. It was she who scared the attackers away and reached out to him, "Are you okay? Don’t you remember me? I’m Cecilia Vaughn. I attended your grandfather’s birthday banquet."
Back then, she wore a pure smile, the only warmth for him in that cold night.
The two faces gradually overlapped.
"Have you really divorced Vera?"
Winston nodded, "The issue with the child ends here."
Cecilia looked at him incredulously, "Winston, she killed our child with her own hands! How can it just end here? Don’t you hate her?"
Winston’s gaze fell on her face.
Cecilia felt guilty under his deep gaze.
"What do you really want?"
"Winston, I will never have a baby again. I’ve lost the right to be a mother. Shouldn’t Vera be responsible for this?"
"What do you want her to be responsible for?" Winston’s face darkened, and he looked at her as if she were a stranger, "Cecilia, one shouldn’t be too greedy."
Cecilia was startled by his gaze, "I..."
"Get some good rest and don’t overthink."
Seeing he was about to leave, Cecilia sat up anxiously, "Winston, can you stay and keep me company?"
"I have some matters at the company."
Winston left the room.
When he was far away, Cecilia, in her anger, swept everything on the side to the ground.
Samantha Warren heard the commotion and walked in, "Cecilia, what’s going on with you?"
Cecilia was in a mess. How could he look at her like that? Could it be... Impossible. That night, he was so deeply asleep, he couldn’t possibly know!
"Mom, I lost the child for him, lost the right to be a mother. Why isn’t he even willing to stay with me?"
Samantha looked at her with pity, "How many men are truly good? Cecilia, you’re just too naive..."
"This time, no matter what, I will marry him!"
...
Originally, Vera thought the news about her and Miles Monroe would soon fade away. Who knew that several media outlets would conduct in-depth reports, digging into her relationship with Miles Monroe.
They even somehow obtained photos of the two of them from their youth.
The reports deliberately blurred their relationship, implying that Vera was two-timing even after marriage and that things were unclear between her and Miles Monroe.
The reports, of course, didn’t directly name Miles Monroe, but they clearly indicated that Vera had been unfaithful during her marriage.
The previous divorce statement from Winston, in which he admitted to being unfaithful, had caused the Group’s stock price to drop for three consecutive days, leading to a trust crisis within the Group, giving insiders a chance to make a big deal out of it.
Finally, Tristan Valentine directly removed Winston Valentine from his CEO position, which managed to quell the public outcry.
The release of such news, coupled with those with vested interests stirring the pot, naturally shifted the blame back onto Vera.
Although the reports were quickly retracted, the impact was undeniable.
In this circle, it’s common for men to have affairs and mistresses, but once a woman cheats, she’s nailed to the wall of shame, bringing disgrace to her entire family.
Hannah Hayes shut herself in and stopped going out, tired of the constant barrage from her old card-playing friends. She even disconnected the phone line, refusing to play cards. Weren’t they just waiting to laugh at her?
Vera proposed to move to an apartment in the city center. After being married to Winston for over three years, she’d collected quite a few properties and received several in the divorce settlement.
"Why move out all of a sudden?" Hannah looked at her disapprovingly, "How can we be at ease with you living alone?"
Vera smiled at her, "The apartment is closer to the clinic, and besides, I’ll have some peace on my own."
"Are you saying you’re tired of your mom?"
Vera quickly shook her head, "I just want a change of environment."
Harry Yves gave Vera a glance, "Whatever you want to do, your mom and I can’t stop you, but, Vera, you should be clear that the Monroe Family is not what it used to be..."
"Dad." Vera interrupted him, "If others don’t believe in your daughter, at least you should."
Harry sighed, "I just want to remind you, knowing yourself is the most important thing."
"Knowing herself for what?" Hannah retorted, "How is Vera not good enough for The Valentine Family?"
"It’s not Vera who’s not good enough for them, it’s The Yves Family that’s not," Harry’s voice was laced with fatigue. "They just need to lift a finger, and when they say give life, you give life; when they say die, you die!"
"It all boils down to you being incompetent, making our daughter suffer!" Hannah’s anger grew. "Do you have to cooperate with the Valentine Group?"
"If we terminate the contract now, The Yves Family is finished. Can you still dress this well in the future?"
Their argument gave Vera a headache. This fight had been going on for days.
"Mom, Dad, please stop fighting."
Only then did the two of them cease arguing.
Vera turned and headed upstairs.
Harry added, "The Valentine Family isn’t much different from the Monroe Family."
Vera paused for a moment, then quickly went upstairs.
She didn’t have much luggage, so the next morning, Vera moved into the apartment. Although it was regularly maintained, Vera still spent half a day cleaning up.
After she finished, she received a call from Zoe Monroe, inviting her out for drinks in the evening and specifically reminding her to dress nicely.
Without knowing why, Vera agreed. It wasn’t until she arrived at the venue with Zoe that she realized it was a small cocktail party attended by young men and women from their circle.
Zoe Monroe was glancing around as soon as they arrived. Vera curiously asked, "Are you meeting someone?"
Zoe shook her head, "I’m just looking for any handsome guys."
Zoe felt like she was losing her mind. Her cousin had to have a screw loose. Vera was divorced! How could he still be trying to set her up?
Upon entering, Vera noticed the curious stares directed at her.
Suddenly, Zoe pulled Vera hard, "Vera, my cousin is here too, let’s go say hello!"
