Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 65: Uncle, How Can You Put Up With This?
There are wounds, both new and old, all over.
But most of them are quite old.
The newest one must be from being thrown down the mountain by Tristan Lockwood last time.
Claire lowered her gaze, revealing nothing of her thoughts, her lips moved but ultimately remained closed.
Jade Sutton grabbed her hand: "Claire, I know you’re upset that I didn’t contact you after going abroad, but I really had no choice. Think about when we were kids, no matter how much Cynthia bullied you, didn’t I always stand up for you? I really have no intention of competing with you for Tristan."
Claire looked into her eyes.
As if probing whether she was lying.
Tears shimmered in the corners of Jade’s eyes.
Her expression was captivating, evoking compassion.
"How you and Tristan develop is none of my business. Of course, if you manage to persuade him to divorce me, I’d even have to thank you."
Jade was taken aback.
"But... don’t you like Tristan?"
"Don’t try to guess my intentions."
Claire glanced at her indifferently.
Jade seemed about to say something when a shadow caught her eye at the door.
Her eyes flickered, and she said: "If my being with Tristan causes you too much harm, I’ll leave him. Only if you and Tristan can remember our past and have Sean stop coming after me."
Claire stood with her back to the door, red lips slightly parted, her response was interrupted by Tristan Lockwood’s voice: "Whether you leave or not isn’t up to her."
She froze, turning around to watch him walk step by step to Jade’s side.
Tristan didn’t look at her, speaking only to Jade: "We have a therapy appointment today, it’s time to go."
Jade nodded.
She then looked at Claire, eyes brimming with emotions: "Claire, I hope you understand me, all these years, I’ve always considered you my dearest friend, I never forgot you."
After speaking, she left side by side with Tristan.
Claire stood still by the office’s floor-to-ceiling window.
Watching Tristan and Jade get into the car and drive away.
Her expression slightly darkened, and she called Joy Sharp into the office, saying: "Tell the reception that if Tristan Lockwood comes to our firm again, have security throw him out."
"Tristan Lockwood?" Joy was momentarily stunned, "That ’billion dollars’ is actually Tristan Lockwood?!"
Joy, born in the countryside, wasn’t very sensitive to the elite families in Riverbend.
It wasn’t until Jude Jacobs mentioned that the office building they used was a Lockwood property, that she had some context.
"No wonder he’s so blatant about keeping a mistress, with a family background like that, his wife probably can’t control him either." Joy sighed deeply, "Once a man has wealth and power, he really is beyond any woman’s control."
Claire looked at her, "But his wife has more money than she can spend in this lifetime, isn’t that good?"
"It is quite good, a lifetime of not worrying about money, living above others, that’s the dream life for many."
Joy thought for a moment, then smiled:
"But whether his wife is happy, I wouldn’t know. If by chance she loves him deeply, that must be quite painful. After all, no woman can accept her husband treating another woman better than her."
Claire curled her lips: "You seem to understand, so why are you still chasing after Jude Jacobs?"
"A-Jude hasn’t dated anyone yet."
At the mention of Jude Jacobs, Joy brightened up.
"I still have a chance to win him over!"
"You will succeed."
Claire said lightly.
She had only said it casually, but Joy was overjoyed to hear it.
The next day, she even brought homemade specialties to the office.
Those specialties were clearly from a farmer’s home, made with care.
Claire: "You shouldn’t let your parents spend too much."
"I told my parents I have a beautiful and kind boss. They sent it over in a rush and even advised me to work hard and not let my kind boss down!"
Joy smiled sweetly, full of charm.
She had a bit of baby fat, with a soft, round face. Claire couldn’t help but pinch her cheek.
Joy’s eyes brightened, and she smiled even more.
Claire: "Give me your hometown address, I’ll send your parents a gift in return."
Joy quickly waved her hand: "That won’t do, how could I accept anything from you!"
Just as she finished speaking, Tina Hayes suddenly burst in, full of indignation.
"President Hale, look at these adulterers! Simply outrageous!"
Tina placed her phone down, and on the screen was a blurry photo. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
In the photo, Tristan Lockwood’s face was very clear.
Beside him was a slender woman, but her face wasn’t visible, only her back view.
However, Tristan’s protective arm around her shoulder was very clear.
Claire immediately recognized it as Jade Sutton.
Looking at their clothes, it must have been taken yesterday.
"This photo has gone viral in Riverbend, saying that Tristan’s been unattainable all these years, like an untouchable flower, and now he’s actually fallen for a woman!"
Joy glanced at the photo, a bit moved: "I really don’t know how Tristan’s wife feels seeing this. Clearly, she’s the legitimate one, but has to hear others praise her husband and his mistress as a perfect match."
In her imagination, she couldn’t help but relate it to herself and Jude Jacobs.
And the thought made her deeply sympathetic.
As Tristan’s wife, Claire was clearly much calmer than the two observers.
She even commented: "It’s a well-taken photo."
Tina looked at her, sighed: "Ah, the emperor isn’t worried but the eunuchs are, if I were Tristan’s wife, I’d secretly get up at night and castrate him!"
"I can hand you the knife." Joy was quite supportive and even wanted to involve Claire, "President Hale, would you join us?"
Claire gave her a subtle look: "I’ll open the door for you."
"Open the door?"
Joy was momentarily confused.
Just then, Claire’s phone rang.
It was Tristan.
She gave Tina and Joy a look, signaling them to leave.
Once alone in the office, she answered.
"You released the photo."
Tristan’s cold words were straight to the point, accusing her directly.
Claire gazed out the window.
"No."
"If not you, then who? You’ve done this before." Tristan’s tone was full of blame.
Claire immediately hung up.
She was too lazy to explain further.
Believe it or not.
Tristan didn’t call back, Claire figured he was busy dealing with the fallout.
The Lockwood family always maintained a strict reputation with few scandals; if the paparazzi dug deeper into Jade and Sean, who knows what could erupt.
Tristan’s response was indeed quick.
By evening, the photo had virtually disappeared from the internet.
Clearly, he was anxious, worried about Jade getting implicated.
Claire had Tina send her the photo, then forwarded it to Sean Lockwood on WeChat.
Adding: Uncle, even you can tolerate this?
