Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 66: Do You Talk to Me Like This All Day Because You Want to Piss Me Off?
Claire Hale is the type who responds better to gentleness than force.
Ever since Sean Lockwood threatened her, the little bit of respect she had for him had vanished into thin air.
When she spoke to him, she was no longer polite.
Sean Lockwood replied to her:
Don’t be led astray by ill-intended people.
Claire Hale gave him a thumbs-up.
No wonder he’s the current head of Lockwood Group, his Ninja Turtle skills are world-class.
However, shortly after she sent this message, Sean Lockwood unexpectedly initiated a voice call.
"You need to go to my father’s house immediately."
Sean Lockwood was terse and to the point.
His tone still left no room for refusal.
Claire Hale was momentarily taken aback and asked, "What happened?"
Sean Lockwood: "Dad and Auntie Heather have found out about Tristan’s photos."
Claire Hale’s heart sank.
Sean Lockwood: "You know what you need to do."
With that, he hung up.
Claire Hale had witnessed Elder Lockwood lose his temper before.
The last time was when she exposed the matter of Tristan Lockwood sleeping with her to the Elder and the Matriarch.
That time, Tristan Lockwood didn’t want to marry her, and Elder Lockwood hit him on the back with his cane repeatedly.
Until his back was bloodied, he coldly looked at her and asked:
"Do you really want to marry me?"
She did genuinely want to marry him at that time.
And it was because she genuinely liked him.
But seeing him rather lose half his life than marry her, the rebellious side of Claire Hale’s nature began to stir uncontrollably.
In front of her grandparents, she nodded and said she wanted to marry him.
Then when she was alone with him, she sneered and said it was only for his money.
She even appeared cold when looking at his wounded back.
There wasn’t the slightest bit of compassion.
That was probably when Tristan Lockwood was tormented by her capriciousness.
Originally someone who was indifferent and avoiding strangers, since marrying her, it seemed like he was taking revenge, getting caught with women every few days.
When Claire Hale arrived at the old mansion, Tristan Lockwood was kneeling in the center of the living room.
Elder Lockwood raised his cane and smashed it down heavily.
Even from a distance, she could almost hear the sound of bones breaking.
"The Lockwood empire was built with bullets, kid! Now you’re married and still dare to be so reckless with women. Seems like you’re asking to get shot!"
Elder Lockwood was so angry, he blew his beard and glared.
The Lockwood Matriarch stood nearby, feeling some heartache, but ultimately did nothing.
Considering they had lived through wartime, the most important thing to them was a person’s character.
Their grandson having a family and yet being promiscuous, causing a scandal known throughout Riverbend, needed a proper reprimand.
But Tristan Lockwood remained indifferent.
Even with sweat pouring from his brow, he maintained that, "The marriage to Claire Hale has not been made public. The photos won’t disgrace you."
"Not publicized is your excuse for misbehavior?! Is it how I raised you, right into a cesspool?!"
The butler then handed Elder Lockwood a long gun.
Elder Lockwood immediately pointed the cold muzzle at Tristan Lockwood’s forehead, demanding, "Who is that woman, what’s her story?"
Tristan Lockwood didn’t move a muscle.
He only glanced up when he spotted Claire Hale approaching.
Seeing her detached stance, he sneered coldly and looked away.
Tristan Lockwood was silent, stubborn as a mule, which completely infuriated Elder Lockwood.
As he raised the gun barrel, about to swing it.
"Grandpa."
Claire Hale stepped forward, calmly blocking Elder Lockwood.
The gun barrel was only a few centimeters from her forehead.
Tristan Lockwood noticed and immediately pulled her arm, moving her aside.
He said coldly, "Stay out of matters that don’t concern you."
"How could it not be related? I know the girl."
She met Tristan Lockwood’s icy gaze as she spoke.
His eyes were full of warning.
Claire Hale chuckled and said, "Grandpa, she’s a friend from the Hale Family. She came to the law firm yesterday to see me, but I was too busy, so Tristan gave her a lift home."
"Your friend?" Elder Lockwood was half-convinced, "Just a friend and he’s put his arm around her?"
"My friend isn’t in great health." Claire Hale said, "Don’t worry, Grandpa, Tristan has been good these days. He was helping me out, got photographed by those with ill intent, and ended up getting a beating, it’s quite difficult for him."
Elder Lockwood pondered and put down the gun.
Glancing at Tristan Lockwood, "Why are you still kneeling, go get the ointment!"
That meant no further repercussions.
Actually, whether Claire Hale’s words were true or not, Byron Lockwood didn’t care to investigate.
After all, whether Tristan Lockwood was keeping a mistress was a matter between the couple. As a senior, he could only guide them to a certain extent.
It was just that this scandal stirred the entire town, and the Lockwood Family couldn’t afford such shame. Plus, if he didn’t address it, he wouldn’t be accountable to Claire Hale as his granddaughter-in-law, he might even be haunted by the ghost of the lad long buried, so he had to reprimand his grandson.
Elder Lockwood, dizzy with rage, cursed as he used his cane to go upstairs to rest.
Claire Hale went to get the medicine chest.
In the living room, Tristan Lockwood sat alone on the sofa.
His back was severely injured, forcing him to sit upright. His face looked quite bad, pale to the point of being creepy.
Before going upstairs, The Lockwood Matriarch looked at him, and said earnestly, "If you keep playing around like this, one day when Claire truly wants to leave, you won’t be able to hold onto her."
Tristan Lockwood pressed his lips tightly together and didn’t respond.
When Claire Hale came with the medicine chest, she saw his pallor and poor condition. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She simply treated his wounds, saying, "Grandpa was too harsh this time, you should go to the hospital. The injury on your back, you can’t treat by yourself."
She remembered the last time he had a fever and stubbornly refused to go to the hospital.
Tristan Lockwood glanced at her coldly, "Your little act was quite successful."
"You still think I did it?"
Claire Hale wasn’t angry, she just looked at him steadily and asked.
Tristan Lockwood frowned a bit.
When he moved, the wound on his back split open.
Though he didn’t make a sound, cold sweat poured down.
Seeing he still wouldn’t believe her, Claire Hale deliberately pressed harder while applying ointment.
Tristan Lockwood gasped sharply, "Are you trying to kill me?"
She raised her brows, "Who told you not to use your brain."
With that, she pulled out the photos.
"Even a fool can see from this photo that you’re the man, while Jade Sutton’s face is completely obscured. If I took these, wouldn’t I give you lovebirds a clear shot?"
Tristan Lockwood didn’t reply.
But his expression showed he was considering her words.
Claire Hale said, "But whether you believe me doesn’t matter. The noble young master of Lockwood Family, unable to even catch the person secretly photographing himself, yet still tries to pin it on his wife. If this spreads, the people in Riverbend will laugh for a year."
Tristan Lockwood squinted, "Do you always speak to me this way to irritate me to death?"
