After they went out of the base, the obvious destruction outside was even more noticeable than inside the base, as they had only cleaned up the road enough for most of their cars to pass through but just left the buildings and other debris outside of it. So, a lot of buildings outside were destroyed again and in a worse state than before.

And when they drove far away from the base, the roads weren’t clean and were still full of debris, so they had to clean it up again.

Because of the zombie birds and the following earthquakes, most of the people in the base hadn’t gone out, as they had been busy cleaning their things as well as their buildings.

Those who went out also probably didn’t go very far from the base because they only had their first hour of driving very easy, as it wasn’t blocked with anything and was without a lot of zombies, so they managed to drive and covered a lot of distance in just an hour.

However, after an hour, they had started to slow down because everything was covered with a lot of debris again.

Well, he wasn’t in charge of cleaning things or driving their cars, so he didn’t care much about it and just started answering crosswords while sometimes looking outside to see what had changed around them and the range of the place affected by the earthquake that they had experienced.

After they drove for two hours, they were finally out of the areas affected by the earthquake.

It was very clear that they were already out of the affected area because they were finally able to drive a bit faster than before, and the buildings they passed by didn’t have any obvious recent destruction at all; most of them were still in a better state than most of the buildings that they had passed by in the last three hours.

Well, in the past two hours, they actually didn’t manage to move fast as there was really a lot of debris and things on the road.

Several times they even had to clear up half of a building that fell on the road or a whole building that collapsed on the road itself.

After they were out of the affected area, they continued driving before they stopped to rest, as well as stopping because Samuel and Aldo had to arrange something; it seemed that they needed to try if they could still reach the base.

So, Luciel and the others had a rest while Samuel, Aldo, and a few other members got busy preparing something, as they had generators as well as small cell towers that the base had modified so that they could use them in farther places.

Afterwards, they indeed managed to call the base, as the one in charge of watching over their calls was able to respond immediately.

Since it’s working, it means that the things that the base made were working properly and they could really proceed with their mission.

The base had already handled the communication that was still near the base as part of their experiment.

According to Treyton, the base had already handled most of the cell towers that were still around the base before; that’s why they could still communicate with the North Base without any problems.

In fact, Samuel and Aldo had also gone out of the base with some of those researchers before so that they could learn things firsthand, so that they wouldn’t have any problems when they’re the only ones who would do the things themselves.

So, they also need to go to most of the cell towers that they would pass by because they also needed those cell towers. It seemed that they needed to install something as well as arrange most of the things in it so that they could use it for a long time.

After arranging things on the cell towers, then they’ll have to visit the bases that they would pass by.

Treyton had already shown them a map and marked all the cell towers that they had to stop by until they reached their destination.

Aside from the cell towers, they had also marked areas that they have to visit, as they’re likely the areas with bases according to the analysis of some experts in the base.

Of course, there were probably other places that weren’t included, so they still had to rely on themselves when it came to looking for those bases as they’re the ones who were traveling south.

So, after resting for a bit, they continued traveling to go to the first cell tower that was marked on their map.

The cell tower that they went to was on top of a hill, but they didn’t have any problems in reaching it because it was very accessible and it doesn’t even have a lot of zombies in it because the population in the area wasn’t that large.

After the others finished cleaning up the zombies around the cell tower and after they cleaned the cell tower a bit, Samuel and Aldo began doing their work with the help of the other members.

"What are they going to do?" Luciel asked Treyton, who was training his lightning ability beside him.

"They’re going to put the tower into sleeping mode and it would only be triggered if it detected an oncoming signal for messages to be sent and received, so that it would consume less power."

"But wouldn’t it still need a large amount of electricity? That’s why it’s mostly connected to a source of electricity. Even in sleeping mode, it probably wouldn’t last for a long time."

Because of the zombie virus and the severe weather, the people in the towers already became zombies, and the severe weather also cut off most of the electric lines; the cell towers that consume a lot of power certainly wouldn’t last.
