Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 238: Family
Chapter 238: Family
Ave couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She wouldn’t have recognized him or even known who he was had she not seen him in that mirror. Though he’d grown into a man now, his hair and eyes were something she would never forget. He was Rylan Glynn, the boy who fought with everything in him to keep his sister alive on that fateful day Gina was under attack. She had seen his head dangling in the hand of the Pendragon soldiers, but here he was...
"How...how are you alive? I saw your severed head..." She couldn’t form words properly because she was finding it hard to believe that he was her elder brother, who she’d thought she had missed the chance of being loved by, like he’d loved Selene when they were young.
Lucian just watched, awestruck at the resemblance between his wife and the red-haired man and how the Banzai prince had changed in a blink of an eye to a completely different person. However, the look in his eyes didn’t change that much.
Rylan didn’t answer immediately as he saw the pale look on Ave’s face and how she looked like someone barely holding up on her feet. He walked towards her and reached out to hold her hand, but Lucian slapped his hand away before he could touch her.
Rylan’s jaw tightened, his glare burning into Lucian. "She’s my sister, and I have every right to touch her. Stay out of this unless you’re ready to bleed with me again. I promise, if you interfere, I’ll make sure to leave a scar we’ll both carry to our graves—for what you’ve done to her." He warned, knowing clearly that no matter how strong he was, the prince was not a man to reckon with as well. If they were to fight, they might both end up killing each other and leaving the woman they equally cared about to grieve.
Lucian was about to give his own warning when Ave raised her hand to massage her aching head. "Can you both just let us have a normal conversation without any fights? You’ve done enough damage to yourselves and the room, and I don’t think I can take another fight again." Ave muttered as she didn’t think she was up for another fierce fight between the two, especially now that she knew he was her brother and she wanted nothing but an explanation of how he had survived that day. The room was destroyed beyond imagination that she didn’t even want to look around it, nor did she want to think of how the Nazia royals would react if they came in to see how they’d destroyed their room.
Seeing how his wife looked stressed, Lucian didn’t interfere again when Rylan reached out and took Ave’s hand. He led her to sit on the edge of the bed because of how she was massaging her temple from the headache she was still feeling.
"Thank you," Ave muttered as she looked at his face after he helped her sit down, still unable to believe that he was her brother. If she were male, she knew she would have looked identical to him from how they looked alike. His face was a rigid and hardened yet undeniably handsome version of hers. He didn’t let go of her hand and crouched down in front of her.
"It’s still puzzling to me how you are here..."
"It’s a long story, but I will make it as short as possible, Rose." He said, using the nickname he’d given her even before she was born. Ave had seen how he promised to protect her when their mother was still carrying her in her womb. He’d given her the name Rose and even said he would protect her along with his friend, Lucian, even though they’d never met before. She couldn’t help but think the irony of it all; they seemed not to like each other now that they have met.
"The day we got attacked, and I watched Father and Mother get killed, I wanted to at least save you then and take you away. When we ran into those bushes that day, I couldn’t run fast enough with you in my arms..."
Ave recalled the scene. She’d watched him run into the bushes holding Selene, but he never came out with her.
"I tripped over something and fell down. I knew I couldn’t do anything even if the guards got to me. I’d end up being killed because I’d used my powers in their presence. I didn’t want to leave Selene behind, but knowing she was powerless and still young—"
"Wait a sec!" Ave hurriedly interrupted, cutting him off. "You knew about the soul swapping?!" She asked curiously when she realized he’d said Selene instead of you.
He nodded. "I didn’t know about it then. I was completely clueless about your soul being sent to another lifetime. All Mother told me was that my sister is powerless and I need to protect her no matter what. It wasn’t until years later after Gina was destroyed, and I met Aunt Lyria’s horse, Heaven. She told me about everything and how you can’t be in this time because of the powers you possess and how it could give our enemies the powers they needed to conquer the world and destroy it. She said you were never meant to even have that power in the first place had it not been for Princess Lyria..." He drawled out as he turned to glare murderously at Lucian.
Ave would have been born a normal witch had his mother not done something to bring back a woman that wasn’t supposed to be born again after the sacrifices she made. She gave Ave the Rosa powers for the sake of her son, who in the end had almost taken her life.
Ave noticed the look he was giving her husband, and she used her hand to turn his head away from Lucian so he would continue.
"You haven’t told me how you escaped death and came to be the prince of Banzai." She smiled as she subconsciously stroked his reddish-brown thick hair that felt smooth against her touch. She was so into touching his hair that she wasn’t aware of the displeased frown on her husband’s face as he watched them.
"I possessed multiple witch powers, I inherited from Mother and Father and Grandfather. Grandfather was said to be a master of illusion spells, and I inherited his powers. When I saw the men coming after us, I promised to come back for Selene when I made a copy of myself with my powers. The soldiers attacked the illusion while I got onto a tree to hide. I wanted to do something to help her, but I realized there was nothing I could do when I was just twelve years old..." He paused as he looked into her eyes.
"I traveled all the way to the Banzai Kingdom after the attack was over and after I set a plan. I had been taught about the histories of all our neighboring kingdoms and knew the Banzai had no prince and the king was desperate to have a son. When I arrived there, I used my powers to manipulate their memories and made them believe I was their prince who had grown up hidden..." He told her everything and how Queen Katrina immediately became attached to him. She treated him like a son because she believed he was hers and gave him everything he ever wanted.
"Every year we traveled to the imperial palace for the Emperor’s birthday. I wanted to go to Selene and tell her I am Rylan, but I didn’t want to risk it when I hadn’t become the king of Banzai yet. There were times I became so disappointed in how she turned out as a person and how she treated people below her and did anything the Empress wanted of her. When I also knew about her affairs with the third prince, I wanted to beat a little sense into her, but I couldn’t. I blamed myself for it, and her attitude made it easier for me to ignore her and focus more on my plans of becoming king first, and when I was told by Heaven of the soul swap, I realized why she acted the way she did. She wasn’t a real Glynn. We Glynn’s are compassionate, brave, smart, and stubborn, just like you are." He said with a small laugh as he raised his hand and tucked a few stray strands of hair falling over her face behind her ear.
Ave didn’t realize she was tearing up until she felt him wipe away the tears for her. She had lived twenty-four years of her life with heartless family members in the future, and when she came to the past and realized her real family were here but dead, she had thought she was meant to never experience the feeling of being loved by a sibling and parents.
She’d thought she’d lost them, but now, she’d just realized her brother had survived, and recalling all the times he had tried to get close to her in the imperial palace and even offered to help her—not to mention the feeling of familiarity she always had around him—made her see just how much he cared for her. The look in his blue eyes at this very moment as he stared at her made her know without a doubt he would protect her with everything in him if he had to keep her safe.
Ave didn’t realize when she fell into his arms and hugged him. He hugged her back and placed a protective arm around her as he stroked her hair. "Shh, it’s okay, Rose. We might have lost Mother and Father, but I want you to know I am willing to make up for all the times we’ve been apart." He coaxed as she cried in his arms.
"Does it hurt that much?" Ave asked Rylan as she treated his wounds a few minutes later after they had settled back from the emotional reunion. She had brought out the box of medicine Lucian had used to treat her arm last night. She couldn’t help but grimace at the deep cut in his upper arm. He didn’t have fast healing powers like Lucian, who had healed from their fight.
Rylan was in a bit of pain, but it wasn’t that much. However, realizing that the more he acted like it hurt so much, the more attention she gave him, and the more a certain someone seemed affected by their bond, he didn’t hesitate. He had traveled all the way from Banzai after he’d secretly made a spell to look at his sister to know how she was doing with the man he had trusted her care in, only for him to see her lying on the bed looking lifeless.
No words could describe the feeling of dread that had consumed him at the thought that something terrible had happened to her. He had used another spell to see what had happened, only for him to watch as she got attacked by the prince in his cursed form. Not bothering to see anymore, he knew who was behind her illness. He’d left Banzai that day itself with the excuse of traveling to the imperial palace for the third prince’s coronation ceremony in place of his family, who were still grieving for Princess Madeline’s death.
It had taken him days to get here, and when he got here and the guards at the gate refused him entrance, he’d used his spell to pass by them. He didn’t have to ask to know where his sister was in the palace because he’d used another spell to find that out, but the servants who had never seen him around had tried to stop him from going up the stairs.
