Chapter 251: Have no condition

Lucian was about to open the door of their room when he heard Rylan’s voice behind him. Turning around, a frown crept upon his face when he noticed something strange about Rylan’s face.

"What happened to your face?" Lucian asked before Rylan could question him about his meeting with the king and court members.

"What happened to my face?" Rylan asked back, a bit self-conscious as he touched his face with a confused frown. He wasn’t feeling alright because a young lass had managed to arouse him against his will, but there was absolutely no way Lucian could have seen that on his face when he was good at hiding his true feelings and expression. Or could he? Rylan had never felt so stupid in all his life because he didn’t want the prince to know what he had just done with his sister in the shadows.

"Your face looks red, and your lips have an abnormal color on them," Lucian pointed out with an arched, curious brow as he couldn’t help but wonder where the man was coming from, looking disoriented and flushed. He wasn’t the kind to care about what someone had been doing, but for some reason, he found pure pleasure in getting under the nerve of this particular man and seeing him have that rare expression on his face like a thief who tried to hide his tracks. Lucian couldn’t help but want to know what he had been doing from the other side he had walked out of.

Rylan cleared his throat and composed himself as he said nonchalantly, "So what if my face looks red? You don’t feel the cold because of who you are. The cold weather makes my skin react like that," he lied, and before Lucian could push the topic or remind him that the Nazia palace stone walls don’t allow cold inside, he asked, "What did they decide?"

"As I expected, they have no choice but to stand by me," he remarked, dismissing any intentions to tease Rylan further, or ask him which of the women in the palace he had been messing around with. It would do Lucian more good if Rylan found his own woman and gave him a break so he could spend more time with Ave without him intruding all the time.

"So what is the plan now? When will you invade the imperial palace?" Rylan asked the most important question.

"Talinor’s spy in the imperial palace sent him a message this morning," Lucian began, his voice low. "The queen now keeps the black witches she gathered as her guards in and around the palace. She seems to sense that, for as long as I still live, I will come for her son and the throne."

He paused, his gaze turning contemplative. "The werewolves and witches have never been friendly with each other because of the spells they could cast. Talinor and the court members have come to the conclusion that we need to seek out the northern packs in Nazia to get more soldiers on our side before we attack."

Lucian leaned forward slightly, his tone growing firm. "I am to travel with Talinor to seek their help in person because he has no control over them. They have their Alpha and wouldn’t risk their men for someone they’ve never met. I have to convince them myself."

"So when are you leaving?" Rylan asked with a sigh as he looked at Lucian’s face that looked a bit distressed despite the fact that he’d managed to secure the support of the Nazias.

"Tomorrow eve. We travel in the night because Talinor thinks we’d reach there on time if we travel in our other form," he said dryly, as he wasn’t looking forward to traveling and leaving his darling wife behind.

Lucian knew none of this was going to be easy because of the powers the Empress held in her hands now. He had managed to get the Nazias to be on his side, which was the hardest part of it all. Traveling to the northern part of the kingdom wasn’t going to be that hard for him, nor was convincing them to lend him their men. The only thing he didn’t look forward to was leaving his wife behind, as the journey wasn’t something he wanted her to risk due to the cold and the fact that the northern packs don’t welcome humans, not to mention they would be traveling in their other forms.

Rylan seemed to read his thoughts even before he voiced them out. "You have nothing to worry about for as long as she would be in the walls of the Nazia palace. There are guards around and inside the premises, and I’ll make sure she has more following her around before I return to Banzai as well."

"When are you going back?" Lucian asked, somehow hoping that Rylan would be here while he would be away, but he knew the man had risked too much to come here and be with his sister and needed to go back to his kingdom before they knew he hadn’t gone to the imperial palace.

"I’ll be going back the day after the morrow. I checked on the Banzai kingdom through my powers, and I can tell things won’t be well if I don’t return. Queen Katrina is already requesting and fearing for my welfare that she is planning to send men to check on me in the imperial palace if I don’t return in a few days," he let Lucian know why he had to leave even though he’d like to stay back and be where his sister was. For as long as Lucian had the support of the Nazias, things would go fine, and besides,

"I will come back after I put Queen Katrina’s mind at rest. I will fight by your side when you invade the imperial palace," Rylan declared determinedly. He wasn’t joining the fight because of Lucian but because he wanted his revenge on the Empress and every soldier who had destroyed his home and killed his family years ago. This fight was his as much as it was his brother-in-law’s.

They stared at each other with silent understanding that needed no words as they each knew what they had to do and what needed to be done to bring down a wicked woman who was the cause of the life they had lived through the years without their loved ones.

After parting ways with Rylan, Lucian went into their room and walked up to the bed. He was a bit disappointed to see his wife sleeping peacefully under the sheets, as he had envisioned making love to her all night before telling her about his leaving tomorrow. He wanted to spend every little moment of the night buried within her in that wonderful moment of love, but seeing her curled under the sheets with such a peaceful expression, he knew he wouldn’t be able to wake her nor have the heart to disturb her sleep.

Discarding his clothes and stripping down until he was nude, he grabbed a robe and wore it before he crawled up beside her and then wrapped a strong protective arm around her, pulling her into his arms and trapping her between his legs, his head buried in her rosy fragrant hair that soothed all his worries momentarily. He didn’t want to think of sleeping tomorrow night away from her, nor the long journey to the north without her. He also dreaded the war that was about to come after his return. He would barely have time to spend with her through all those ordeals.

Things were about to get rougher, and he hoped to hell that things would fall the way he’d planned them to, to emerge from the war victorious and take his wife back home to make her his Empress and then live the rest of their lives together without children. He’d done his research shortly after the king had mentioned how humans can’t birth their child and realized the man was right.

However, Lucian didn’t give a damn about any child in this life anymore when he had his beautiful wife with him. For as long as she remained beside him unharmed, he would never fantasize about having his own offspring. He turned to press his lips against her hair, and she snuggled closer into his arms, causing his erection to swell and harden more than it had from only holding her in his arms.

"Damn, you will be the death of me, love," he whispered thickly as he couldn’t stop his hands from roaming her body when she snuggled closer until she stirred in her sleep and opened her heavy-lidded eyes to meet his gaze. She smiled at him, and before he could even make any attempt to do anything, she rolled onto him and closed her lips against his in a passionate, heated kiss that made his hunger roar in his brain until he could no longer think of anything but her beautiful body against his.

In a blink of an eye Lucian tore her nightdress apart before he could get hold of himself, and in no time, they were both naked in bed, moving and arching against each other, filling the room with low growls and desperate moans, with the bed beneath them making a creaking noise that added rhythm to their movement.

The next morning, Ave woke up between the tangled sheets and her husband, who lay facing her with his head against his palm and propped up on his elbow, a sensual smile playing on his sinfully handsome face. She smiled back at him. He’d made love to her last night until she could hardly remember her own name. So many times, she’d come, and he’d ridden her back on the clouds until she’d lost count. Her body now felt deliciously swollen from his kisses and thorough loving from head to toe.

In the morning light, his skin shimmered golden, his silky black hair gleamed. She gazed at him, marveling as she couldn’t help but think of how lucky she was to have a man like this as her husband. He wasn’t only dashing but cared for her and loved her deeply.

"Good morning," she greeted hoarsely. Her voice had turned hoarse from all the cries last night that she flushed earnestly when he grinned at the sound of her voice.

"Morning, my heart," he purred softly as he moved to kiss her lips, but she put her hand up to block his mouth as she shook her head. He gave her a questioning look, and Ave frowned as she said,

"We haven’t freshened up, and if you kiss me now, it would be another hour until we leave this room," she said mufflingly, with her palm still pressed against her lips until he moved back with a low growl.

"What did the Nazia decide last night? You haven’t gotten the time to tell me," Ave asked the most important question that had kept her restless last night when he was gone until she fell asleep somehow, and when he returned, there had been no time for them to speak because her husband had seduced her from sleep until she was aroused and awake.

"They will stand by me," he told her, and Ave couldn’t help but leap up in happiness and relief.

"Really?!" she exclaimed as she stared at him, but realizing he didn’t look happy about the news, her excitement slowly went down, and she asked, "What’s wrong? Did they give you another condition for their support? Are they still insisting you marry their princess? Perhaps I should talk to that Nina and get her to back off from my man. She’s so desperate that she would want to marry a man who’s already married! I will—" Ave was already scrambling out of bed to prepare to meet the princess, but Lucian reached her before she could leave the bed.

He laughed as she tried to push away from him and get down, but he held her tightly to him and said, "They have no condition. I am not happy because I am going to miss you terribly, love." He kissed her forehead as she finally relaxed and looked at him in confusion.

"What do you mean? I will always be with you," she said as she stared into those amber flame-like eyes that regarded her with affection.

"Take a stroll with me outside after breakfast," he said to her instead.
