Transmigration: Giving The Second Male Lead All The Love I Have.-Chapter 49: We Need A Scapegoat.
Sang Mansion
It’s been two days since the doctor announced the death of Sang Xiu. Two days since Fu Mingze watched as his wife fell apart in front of him. His heart ached as he saw Yang Meiyi just staring at the food in front of her in a daze, he nodded at the maid to leave them alone and sat beside her.
As soon as Yang Meiyi noticed his presence, she looked at him and asked "Did you find out who did it?"
Fu Mingze held her hand gently and said "I’m still trying but it’s difficult, the police can’t find any witness to the accident and the security camera in that area has been damaged for a year now."
Yang Meiyi forcefully removed her hand from his and said "Then you should try harder."
"Meiyi." Fu Mingze said her name in helplessness, she has been distant from him ever since her mom’s death and the worst part is that he doesn’t even know how to fix it, he doesn’t know what to do to make her feel better, for her not to close herself to him.
"You have money, power, and a lot of connections so how is it possible for you not to be able to find the person who hit my mother?"
"It’s not as easy as you think. Nobody knew what your mom was doing in that district and the man who called the ambulance only passed through that route because he was late and that was the quickest way to his office. We are at a dead end Meiyi, there are no witnesses, no CCTV, nothing."
"Then why are you here? What’s is the use of all that money and power if you can’t even do anything for me." Yang Meiyi said in anger and immediately regretted her words when she saw hurt in Fu Mingze’s eyes. She immediately held his hand and said "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean what I said."
Fu Mingze’s gaze softened as he caressed her cheek and said "It’s alright, but Meiyi you can’t keep doing this to yourself, you need to eat something."
Yang Meiyi shook her head and said "I don’t have an appetite for anything and besides Grandpa hasn’t been eating as well." Her gaze moved to Fu Mingze as she said "You have to promise me that you will find the person responsible for what happened to my mom, promise me Fu Mingze."
Fu Mingze kissed the top of her head and said "I promise." No matter what, he was going to find out the person responsible for Sang Xiu’s death.
.....
"We need a scapegoat." Gu Zhen said without breaking his gaze on Yang Jia who was drinking more than she should.
Yang Jia smiled bitterly and said, "I don’t want an innocent person to pay for my sins."
Gu Zhen scoffed and asked "Then, do you want to turn yourself in? Go ahead and tell them how you killed your stepmother, tell them how you paid to silence the person who saw your car plate number. You are already deep in this mess, I think it’s too late for you to start playing the role of a saint."
"Fu Mingze hasn’t left a table unturn in this case, sooner or later he will find out anyway." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Fu Mingze won’t find out anything. You keep your shut, I will keep my shut and the only person who saw your car plate and thankfully not your face is now in the Philippines, so relax and stop drinking." Gu Zhen said in anger. He sighed and continued "Fu Mingze won’t stop until there is someone to blame for Sang Xiu’s accident and that’s what will happen, before the weekends, we need someone to be the scapegoat."
....
It was happening, her mother was gone and as the priest asked if anyone wanted to say a few words, Meiyi just stayed sitting without saying anything, she could feel the people’s eyes on her, she could feel their pity and sympathy and she could feel eyes judging her for not shedding a single tears on her mom funeral. What did they want her to say? That Sang Xiu was the perfect mother, that Sang Xiu made her feel what it was to have a mother, what it was for someone to love you unconditionally. Did the people want to hear of how she has to live the rest of her life without the warmth of the only woman who had shown her what a mother’s love felt like? Did they want to hear of how perhaps if she hadn’t survived that car accident then Sang Xiu would have been alive? Should she stand in front of them and say it’s all her fault, that Sang Xiu dying was mainly because she had existed in this world?
Fu Mingze looked at a quiet Yang Meiyi and squeezed her hand, he wondered what was going on in her mind, he wondered what he needed to do to bring that cheerful Meiyi back, but looking at her right now he had a dreadful feeling that particular Meiyi is gone and he sincerely prays that it isn’t forever.
He watched as Yang Jiu held the mic and said "Sang Xiu was not just a good wife but she was also a great mother to both our daughters. She was a good woman who gave effortlessly to charities and never turned down those who needed her help. To be honest, I don’t know how I will spend the rest of my life without her but I do hope that she finds peace wherever she is and the person who did this to her will pay."
Yang Jia who was seated at the far end clenched her pause tightly when she heard her father’s words. She didn’t do anything wrong, all these wouldn’t have happened if that woman hadn’t made her angry, if Sang Xiu had never threatened her then the woman would still have been alive. Yes, it’s not her fault, it’s all Sang Xiu’s fault. Now, that Sang Xiu is dead no one will know her secret, no one will be able find out the truth.
