Chapter 52: Three Essence Finger

The reason Aizen left 8,000 task Wisdom points in reserve wasn’t just because of the newly opened Wisdom Shop, which could potentially offer rare and powerful items that required a hefty exchange. It was also because, now that he had become an outer Clan disciple, he had access to the Sorcery arts techniques of the Heaven Demon Clan’s outer Clan. Having a reserve of Wisdom points would allow him to quickly learn or acquire any techniques he deemed useful.

The six medium-level Wisdom treasure chests he had acquired were a precious opportunity. Especially with his privilege of specifying one item to maximize the value of the chests, he could make sure he chose wisely. As the chests shimmered in his mind, Aizen methodically inspected each one, his eyes narrowing as he considered his options.

Between the six chests, there were a total of thirty-eight items. One chest stood out in particular: it contained ten items, and it was the most valuable of the lot. Within this treasure trove was a fragmented but immensely valuable Sorcery arts manual—a finger technique of astonishing potential. Even though incomplete, it retained a formidable fourth-tier rating. This was none other than the Three Essence Finger, a legendary technique created by the powerful villain Ky Luc in Wind and Cloud.

Aizen currently had three Art techniques he could rely on, in addition to his inner cultivation method, the Star Absorption Technique. These techniques were: the Decapitating Sword Technique, the Skylark Soaring Movement, and the Profound Ice Divine Palm. He had trained with the Decapitating Sword Technique the longest, using it frequently in combat, and his proficiency had reached 52%. He believed that, with time and practice, reaching 100% proficiency would bring the sword technique to a new level of mastery, perhaps unlocking its true potential and increasing its lethality.

But even so, Aizen knew that the Decapitating Sword Technique, being incomplete, was limited. It was fine for dealing with ordinary enemies, but against skilled masters, it might fall short. The Three Essence Finger, even in its fragmented form, was far more potent, a true killer move. It could become his hidden trump card, especially if he used it alongside the Profound Ice Palm to amplify its power. The Profound Ice Palm, while strong, had a critical flaw: if used against someone with greater inner energy, it could backfire, causing significant damage to Aizen himself.

Pondering his options,Aizen’s attention shifted to another chest. This one held eight items, with the standout being a movement technique called Floating Cloud Shadow Steps, a fifth-tier skill. This movement technique was reminiscent of the famed Wave Treading Microstep: while it didn’t emphasize leaping or aerial agility, it excelled in strange and swift footwork. It was a movement art of the Bang family in Wind and Cloud, known for its unpredictable and ghost-like speed.

Compared to the Three Essence Divine and Floating Cloud Shadow Steps, the items in the other four treasure chests paled in comparison. Although there were some valuable resources, they weren’t nearly as impactful. Weighing his options, Aizen decided to use his privilege to select the Three Essence Finger manual.

"Ding."

"System Notification: Congratulations to the host for obtaining the Fragmented Finger Technique Manual – Three Essence Finger."

A partially complete manual appeared in Aizen’s hands. He studied it intently, and the knowledge seemed to pour into his mind like a rushing stream.

"Three Essence Finger

(Originally a second-tier technique, 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

downgraded to fourth-tier due to fragmentation)

: Killing moves include: Jade Shattering Gold Splitting, Three-Part World, and Urgent as Ten Thousand Fires."

Aizen nodded, satisfied. The manual wasn’t too fragmented; although the most devastating killing move was missing, the other three techniques were intact. Wind and Cloud was a world filled with high-level Sorcery arts, and this particular finger technique, created by the formidable Ky Luc, was highly rated. Even in its fragmented state, it surpassed his Profound Ice Divine Palm in raw power.

The Three Essence Finger was designed by Ky Luc to counter various other Sorcery arts styles, including ice-based techniques, cloud-breaking palms, and wind-demon kicks. The ultimate move, Three Essence Destruction, required the use of a specific internal energy cultivation method called Three Essence Unity Energy. This move combined the essence of fist, palm, and leg techniques into one devastating finger strike. However, Aizen couldn’t use it, even if he had the move, because his cultivation method was the Star Absorption Technique, not the Three Essence Unity Energy.

Eager to see what else he might obtain, Aizen opened the remaining five medium-level treasure chests one by one. The excitement of uncovering treasures never ceased to thrill him. Although he didn’t manage to get the Floating Cloud Shadow Steps, he did receive a Essence Minor Rejuvenation Pill, a rare find that could greatly aid his recovery in critical moments. It was a small but significant stroke of luck.

The remaining chests, however, were less rewarding. They yielded two miscellaneous items, a bottle of second-tier Vitality Pills, and a ninth-tier mystical belt called Night of the Twenty-Four Bridges Under the Moonlight. The belt, though not extraordinary, was still practical. It contained twenty-four hidden pouches, perfect for discreetly storing items.

Aizen carefully placed his new items aside. He stood and glanced out the window, taking in the scene before him. The moonlight was cold and ethereal, casting long shadows over the bamboo grove. A gentle breeze rustled the bamboo leaves, making them whisper like ghostly voices. A silent autumn rain began to fall, mingling with the dry leaves, some of which had turned yellow and curled at the edges.

A night like this—chilled rain, a whispering wind, and a jug of clear wine—was perfect for a lone cultivator like Aizen. He closed the window and bolted the door, setting up a few simple yet effective traps as warnings. He methodically organized his belongings, then made his way into the inner chamber.

In the inner room, a hidden passage awaited. Aizen approached one of the bedposts and twisted it. The mechanism engaged, flipping the bed and revealing a secret chamber below. When the bed returned to its original position, he was gone, having descended into the hidden room.

The stone staircase that led down was narrow and steep, a dangerous path for anyone unprepared or lacking the necessary agility. The chamber below wasn’t as suffocating as he expected. Several ventilation shafts allowed fresh air to circulate, one of which led to the bamboo grove outside and was barred with iron grilles.

Aizen lit a fire stick, and the soft glow illuminated the small chamber, barely a few meters in diameter. He descended the staircase, extinguished the light, and sat on a simple meditation cushion. The room contained nothing but this lone cushion, and he had discovered it by accident while searching for valuables left behind by Krul.

Despite not finding any treasures, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this empty room had to serve a deeper purpose. There had to be something hidden, a secret waiting to be uncovered. However, he didn’t have the luxury of time to investigate every brick for hidden mechanisms. For now, he would put the mystery aside.

Aizen knew that trouble would soon come knocking. As a newly recognized Golden List disciple, he had drawn considerable attention. There would be those eager to challenge him or even plot against him. Whether it was members of the Left Faction, Krul’s husband, or the Consolidating Faction she was affiliated with, he knew he had become a target.

His rapid ascent in the Clan hierarchy was too conspicuous. Anyone who looked into his history would be shocked at how quickly he had risen. Just half a month ago, he was a mere black-clad disciple. Now, only weeks later, he had forcefully advanced into the outer Clan. Such a meteoric rise was bound to spark envy, suspicion, and schemes from those who saw him as either a threat or a valuable prize.

And so, Aizen waited, alone but resolute, knowing that the true challenges had only just begun.
