Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Poison’s Onset

A burst of overwhelming power erupted wildly from Aizen’s fingertip.

This strike was swift, fierce, and precise, wielding unstoppable force! With the urgency of a life-or-death moment, it moved as fast as a thunderbolt. Merging the ferocity of the Gale Leg Technique, Aizen seized that fleeting opportunity entirely. His inner strength raged outward uncontrollably.

A heaven-shaking finger strike!

Aizen’s black hair flared wildly, while Kean’s eyes widened in horror as he was forced back, but Aizen’s finger still jabbed directly at his brow.

"Pop!"

A crisp sound echoed.

Kean’s pupils dilated; his body shuddered, and the horror in his eyes dimmed slowly. The one-eared man, sword in hand and charging from behind, hadn’t had a chance to react. Aizen abruptly retreated, seemingly heading straight for the sword tip, as though attempting suicide.

The one-eared man’s eyes burned with killing intent as his sword tip aimed at Aizen’s back. But just then, two fingers flicked out, striking the sword tip.

The Three Levels Shatter!

With a clang, Aizen’s finger struck with the force of forged iron, releasing immense power. The one-eared man’s arm trembled and went numb, causing his sword to fly from his grasp. Aizen spun and unleashed an Icy Palm directly to the man’s chest.

Boom!

His palm sank three inches into flesh; bones caved in, and a burst of energy shot out of the man’s back, even causing his spine to protrude by an inch. The one-eared man’s eyes were blasted out of their sockets by the violent energy, leaving two bloody holes that struck fear into all who saw them.

Aizen retracted his palm.

Two heavy thuds sounded.

Two corpses hit the ground. One man’s chest was crushed and eyeless, while the other bore a red dot on his brow that slowly expanded.

At that moment, Aizen staggered. The right side of his face had turned a dark blue, his vision spinning as he barely managed to suppress it with his internal energy. The poison on Kean’s hidden weapon had already spread into his bloodstream, and unlike the Red Lady’s alcohol poison, this one was far more potent. Aizen holding on until now was already remarkable.

"Whoosh!"

Two faint gusts of wind swept down from the top right, and two figures appeared in the bamboo grove. Without sparing them a glance, Aizen approached Kean’s body to search for an antidote. The two figures were middle-aged men who had been lurking and observing. Now, they looked at Aizen with a mix of astonishment, wariness, and even a hint of greed and killing intent.

Aizen paused for a moment, then continued searching, seemingly unaffected, though he was already aware of the faint killing intent from behind. Just having fought a fierce battle, his senses were heightened, allowing him to detect any malicious gaze quickly and stay alert.

These two were likely from the Left Faction, who had just secretly launched two hidden weapons to lend him a hand, allowing him to kill Kean smoothly. They had come to aid him at a crucial moment, naturally expecting his gratitude. Yet the two of them clearly harbored greed, having noted the extraordinary nature of his Sorcery arts, hiding their intent but restrained by some greater interest.

For someone approaching with hidden motives, Aizen felt neither gratitude nor trust but merely maintained an outward facade.

"No need to look. No one would be foolish enough to carry the antidote with them. Come over here. I have a remedy that might help you detoxify, or, if needed, we can use our internal energy to force out the poison," said the burly middle-aged man with a full beard, his eyes flashing.

The other man watched Aizen intently and chuckled, "You’ve probably guessed who we are. We’re former disciples from the Golden Roster and now handle internal affairs on Demon Ox Peak for the Left Faction—you’re one of us, too. We wouldn’t just stand by and let you be killed, but we didn’t expect your skills to be this formidable."

Aizen narrowed his eyes, his mind beginning to cloud. The two weren’t approaching, clearly on guard, and likely aware of his poisoned state, delaying to wait for him to lose consciousness.

Feigning a cough, Aizen sighed internally, his mind glancing at the refreshed items in the active marketplace. Among them, one lethal item gleamed brightly. After a moment of hesitation, he refrained from making that choice. From his sleeve slid out a Lesser Revival Pill, freshly acquired and just warmed in his hand. He used his cough to slip it into his mouth.

The wax coating had already been rubbed off, and a spicy taste filled his mouth as soon as the pill touched his tongue, setting his insides aflame. The dizziness in his head vanished almost immediately. Indeed, it was a sacred healing medicine.

Though it was a pity to use it now, it was necessary. One must always guard against others.

These two Left Faction men were not to be trusted, even if they came with orders from high-ranking faction members to recruit him. There was no guarantee they wouldn’t harbor ill intent.

Anywhere, anytime, those with power receive vastly different treatment than those without. While he hadn’t succumbed to the poison, they maintained an outwardly friendly attitude, but should he truly show signs of weakness, they would reveal their fangs.

Even Saint with a heart of compassion have moments of ferocity; let alone ordinary people, with all their complex motives.

Just as Aizen turned, footsteps echoed along the bamboo path.

Bamboo leaves crunched underfoot as a group of eight outer disciples entered the grove, paling at the sight of the bodies. A short, stocky man Gong in brown pushed through the group; standing only five feet tall, he was previously hard to spot. Now, stepping out of the crowd, he immediately noticed Kean’s corpse at Aizen’s feet.

The man’s eyes bulged with fury as he glared at Aizen and the two Left Faction men, his gaze murderous.

"You’re ruthless, truly ruthless! You even killed my faction’s Kean. Was it you who killed him?"

The short man’s aura erupted like a volcano, his eyes blazing with murderous intent as he glared at Aizen, rage filling him. Kean had been a core figure within the Consolidating Faction, a candidate groomed for a senior role, soon to become an inner disciple and a key leader within the faction. But now, that promising figure lay dead.

Aizen’s gaze lifted. Half of his face was tinged blue, his eyes cold, daring none to meet his stare.

"So what if it was?"

He rarely wasted words, but now he said one.

The short man took an angry step forward.

In that instant, the Left Faction’s bearded man and the round-faced man swiftly moved beside Aizen.

"Stocky Man Gong , what’s the matter? Only your Consolidating Faction can act, and our Left Faction disciples can’t kill?"

The round-faced man sneered, his small eyes glinting like a viper’s as he stared at the five-foot man with disdain.

Aizen’s lips curved slightly.

This Consolidating Faction shorty had arrived at a convenient moment. Having just taken the Lesser Revival Pill, the poison hadn’t fully cleared, and his internal energy wasn’t entirely recovered. He had been considering how to deal with these two greedy Left Faction men, but now, someone had come to share the burden.

Indeed, sometimes enemies become allies, even if only temporarily
