Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Fragment of a Master Technique

"No, no, don’t kill me! I am a direct descendant of the Crowley family of Wekami..." Marco cried out, his voice trembling with desperation as he lay sprawled on the muddy ground.

Kicked down with ruthless force, he now begged for mercy, his once-arrogant demeanor replaced by abject fear.

Aizen, standing over him, was entirely unsympathetic; he had no desire to waste words on someone like Marco.

The sword in his hand gleamed under the faint light as he prepared to end Marco’s life with a swift, merciless strike.

But just as Aizen raised his blade, he noticed a strange shift in Marco’s expression.

The terror in his eyes was suddenly replaced by a look of deep, almost hypnotic intensity.

Marco’s gaze locked onto Aizen’s, and within those eyes, Aizen saw something uncanny—a swirling, dark whirlpool filled with an intense and seductive allure, a strange, almost supernatural force that seemed to pull at Aizen’s spirit.

Aizen felt his mind waver, as though he were being drawn into that mesmerizing vortex, pulled in by the hidden desires that seemed to lurk within Marco’s gaze.

In that instant, an overwhelming sense of danger surged through Aizen’s heart, a primal instinct warning him of a lethal threat.

Cold sweat broke out across his brow as he suddenly became aware of something sharp and deadly approaching his throat from the corner of his eye.

The threat was real and immediate, and anyone with less courage or resolve would have panicked, perhaps even recoiled in terror.

But Aizen was different.

At that moment, he found a place of absolute calm within himself, a clarity that allowed him to act with unparalleled precision.

With a swift movement, he activated his Three-Point Finger technique, performing the "Life-or-Death Strike."

Channeling his inner strength completely through his fingers, he launched a powerful strike, meeting the oncoming glint of steel head-on.

His fingers, hardened by his internal energy, collided with the dagger aimed at his throat.

"Clang!"

The sound of metal clashing echoed through the air as the blade in Marco’s hand shattered upon impact.

However, the force of the strike wasn’t without cost—Aizen’s fingernail cracked, and his fingers were left mangled and bloodied.

Pain surged through him, sharp and unforgiving, yet he gritted his teeth, refusing to falter.

Marco’s weapon lay in pieces, but the man wasn’t finished.

Realizing his life hung by a thread, Marco, in a final act of desperation, swung his fist towards Aizen’s head, his face contorted in fury and fear.

Aizen, however, was ready.

His eyes blazed with unmasked killing intent, and the fierce light in his gaze made it clear he no longer intended to show mercy.

That close call had almost cost him his life, and he was done holding back.

Abandoning his blade, Aizen struck out with his palm, meeting Marco’s fist with devastating power.

"Crack!"

The sound of bones shattering rang out as Aizen’s palm connected with Marco’s hand, crushing it with ease.

Blood vessels ruptured, and the strength drained from Marco’s arm, leaving his hand a mangled mess.

Aizen didn’t stop there.

With a cold sneer, he activated the Devouring Star Technique, channeling a terrifying suction force through his palm.

The air around them seemed to freeze as Aizen’s black hair whipped about wildly.

Marco let out a horrified, piercing scream as Aizen began to drain the life force and inner energy from his body, the years of cultivation Marco had poured into his strength now being stolen by Aizen.

Marco’s face turned ghostly pale, foam gathering at the corners of his mouth as his body began to wither.

Finally, Aizen released him, allowing Marco’s limp form to fall to the ground, lifeless and discarded, like a piece of worthless trash.

"Crack!"

Without a second thought, Aizen brought his boot down on Marco’s head, the sickening sound of bone and flesh splintering filling the air as blood and brain matter splattered across the ground.

Some of the blood stained Aizen’s pants, but he remained unbothered, his expression indifferent.

The rain soon began to wash away the blood, mixing it with the muddy ground and filling the air with a metallic scent that lingered.

A soft chime sounded in Aizen’s mind as the system registered his kill.

The notification confirmed the completion of his side quest to eliminate Marco.

Yet, Aizen’s face remained calm, as if he had merely squashed an insect rather than taken a man’s life.

As he stood over Marco’s corpse, Aizen’s mind replayed the moment of danger he’d faced.

That hypnotic gaze Marco had used to disrupt his focus wasn’t an ordinary skill.

It was some form of technique that could manipulate the minds and spirits of others.

This technique seemed far too refined for someone like Marco, who had never shown signs of such profound ability before.

It was unlikely this skill came from the traditional training of the Crowley family of Wekami.

Conor’s intel would have mentioned something of this magnitude if it had been a Crowley family specialty.

Harboring a faint sense of curiosity, Aizen decided to search Marco’s body.

He dismissed the few silver notes he found and continued his search, eventually noticing something unusual on Marco’s back.

Turning the bloodied corpse over, Aizen saw a patch of skin that appeared darker than the surrounding flesh, and upon touching it, he noted it was rougher in texture.

His curiosity piqued, he narrowed his eyes and examined it closely.

The dark patch seemed to be part of Marco’s body, with no visible stitches or signs of adhesion.

It looked as though this odd patch of skin had naturally grown there.

After a brief hesitation, Aizen took his sword and began cutting away at the patch, his hands steady despite the gruesome task.

The wet sound of skin being separated was disturbing, but Aizen was unfazed, meticulously peeling off the darker skin in one piece.

Blood and fatty tissue clung to the underside, the thick scent of iron heavy in the air.

A few droplets of hot blood sizzled as they hit the cold, damp ground.

Examining the removed piece, Aizen felt a slight uncertainty.

The patch seemed genuine, as though it had been part of Marco’s body all along.

Standing up, he decided to try another approach and focused his mind to connect with the system.

Within moments, a system notification appeared:

"Ghost Eye Bewilderment 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

(formerly a *** mystery technique,

now downgraded to

mystery technique due to damage

Once one of the two master techniques of the Ghost Shadow Clan, only those with strong mental strength can practice it."

The words left Aizen momentarily speechless.

The Ghost Eye Bewilderment, one of the two legendary techniques of the Ghost Shadow Clan, was indeed embedded within this piece of human skin.

Marco’s possession of this fragment was surprising, but Aizen couldn’t deny the possibilities that now lay before him.

Techniques capable of manipulating the mind were exceptionally rare, and this spiritual skill, even damaged, was considered a third-grade technique by the system.

Its unusual properties might even place it on par with second-grade techniques within the Magus world.

Looking at the skin again, Aizen noticed that it was torn along the edges, incomplete.

Despite his careful cutting, the skin seemed to have already been damaged long before he’d found it.

Deciding to confirm his theory, he used his sword to slice another section of skin from Marco’s body, but the system did not respond this time.

Determined to be thorough, Aizen stripped Marco’s corpse entirely, searching for any other fragments of this mysterious technique.

After a careful examination, Aizen confirmed that only the original patch of dark skin was different, while the rest of Marco’s body was normal.

In a way, this outcome made sense—if the Ghost Eye Bewilderment had been a complete first-grade technique, its power would have likely overwhelmed him, leaving him dead on the spot.

With a cautious optimism, Aizen attempted to use his mission points to learn the technique, hoping for a shortcut.

However, the system issued a warning:

"Conditions for learning this technique have not been met. Forcing it could lead to unpredictable consequences."

Aizen let out a wry smile at this familiar outcome.

Although he had the system, he lacked any unique attributes that would give him an advantage in mastering this technique.

Marco’s body had been well-suited to the Ghost Eye Bewilderment, especially in terms of mental fortitude, which allowed him to support such a potent spiritual technique despite his mid-level Sorcery Innate cultivation.

As Aizen pocketed the fragment, he realized that his path to mastering such skills would be neither quick nor easy.
