Chapter 311: 311 Elderlich sorcerer

[OP: ]

Walking on a clear path after defeating the last challenge in search of a good place for rest, they stumbled across an opened door.

"Hmmm?"

[A mysterious door on a wall, with no special carvings or enchantments on it like the previous places they had encountered.]

{ "On top of its simplicity, this mysterious door was open. Like it was inviting them inside that deep dark place." }

The passage was dark so as soon as they noticed it, they got on guard and became wary of this place.

This was the first time they were coming across an area like this since entering this dungeon.

There was only a straight passage before them until now, and no rooms in sight other than the places where they fought those stronger monsters incomparable to the normal mobs.

There were occasionally ruined places in places here or there but they did not have any doors.

Not an open door like this one.

"Captain?"

They did not know anything about a place like this... and they could all feel something sinister from it as well.

"We will avoid this."

There were hidden places in dungeons that rarely came up which the earlier challengers might not have encountered before.

There were even times when the adventurers found unparalleled treasures in hidden places like these, but they weren’t some normal adventurers challenging some normal dungeons.

This was a dungeon that had been unconquered for centuries even after multiple attempts of the greatest powers of this world.

Some of the older ones among them knew how even the strongest powers of this world had failed miserably in these raids and how some had not only lost their lives, some of them had even become permanently crippled.

[The judgement of the captain was logical and decisive. The others had also agreed with him and the party was just about to move forward when...]

-Oooooooooooooooooong!

"...!"

"Everyone dodged-...!"

"What the hell are these?!"

Dark tentacles came out from that darkness and captured every single one of them.

{ "Some of their instincts were admirable as they dodged not one but a few of the tentacles that had come after them, however... the sudden appearance of not tens but hundreds of tentacles baffled them." }

"Kyaaaaaaaaaa!"

"Dammit!"

It was sudden, happening only in the blink of an eye. It was so surprising that for a few, it seemed like a back light had flashed before their eyes before they all got dragged inside that unknown door...

The moment they discovered this door and the moment they were dragged in there was no more than twelve to fifteen seconds.

It happened too spontaneously, and right after getting dragged by these tentacles...

{ "They weren’t getting assaulted by them, thankfully. And there was also no dreadful hell like sight before them either but, the thing before them was not a good sight." }

[A vast room stretched across endlessly, its walls lined with ancient tomes and arcane artifacts.]

They found themselves in a kind of place that should not have existed in a dungeon like this.

[Faint, eerie light emanated from glowing crystals embedded in the ceiling, casting ominous shadows across the stone floor.]

In the centre of the room stood an ancient lab, a twisted amalgamation of alchemical apparatuses and mystical elements.

Tubes and vials bubbled with noxious liquids inside them, and strange symbols etched into the floor were pulsating with a sickly green glow.

[A scenery recorded in countless historical accounts... they knew instantly where they were.]

{ "Sorcerers were mages who, instead of using the powers of just nature, used the otherworldly powers from creatures that could not exist in their realm. They were born with superior abilities than any other of their kind and possessed a strong desire for improvement or perfection." }

The most powerful of these sorcerers were those who had achieved the ultimate truth or, had become something close to an eternal immortal being.

Something like those ultimate life forms existed in this world now stood before them.

[At the heart of this sinister tableau loomed a creature none of them could look in the eyes.]

{ "A towering, grotesque creature with writhing tentacles and malevolent eyes that gleam with dark intelligence. Its form seemed to shift and warp, defying comprehension, and an aura of dread surrounding it like a palpable miasma." }

"An Elderlich..."

They couldn’t believe the sight before them.

{[ "Since the dawn of this dungeon, after the ascension of the fortress, after... nine thousand, three hundred and sixty six years... you." ]}

The pressure present in this room, the dreadful pressure that no mortal could handle on their own created by the mere presence of this being... it affected even them.

{[ "There are not many paths in this fortress. Some follow the most common ones, some challengers of the past follow the less travelled by. But you..." ]}

A deep green flame was burning in the eye socket that resembled a skill, but was more ethereal than material.

There was a a robe covering its body... a black bone that, just from a look, was recognised as a divine artifact that no simple craftsman of this world could ever produce.

This very laboratory, alive and breathing various forms of fluids in the beakers and glass tubes contained various substances that looked visibly hideous.

{[ "You took a path never travelled by, and reached here. To me. To us." ]}

The creature in the centre stood six metres tall, taller than any monster they had faced until now.

Its body made of human-like bones but stronger, larger... black instead of white, possessing visibly superior magical qualities than even the bones of the draconian species known for their natural superiority.

Its eyes possessing a kind of deep wisdom that they had only seen from beings like their employers.

The floor they stood on seemed like a puzzle with all the enchanting runes carved on them, and the throne that the creature stood on was no different from the throne of a ruler.

{[ "I sense divinity, presence of superior authority, smell of a great species’ descendant, even strong presence of nature, Creatures of nature, world’s emissary, holiness earned not borrowed from anyone else, divinities watching them..." ]}

Lich were immortal creatures who once used to be mortals, however, through forbidden rituals, they had managed to achieve immortality by sealing their original souls in some object.

[An ancient being that has arrived at a point where the limitations of their own world are no longer applicable to them, immortals who pursue one true path of self perfection, rare entities with Greater wisdom... they were in the presence of an Elderlich sorcerer, master of magic, master of mortality, and this specific one, achiever of divinity.]

It looked down at them with a deep interest in its Eyes, and they weren’t the only ones he was looking at.

{[ "An epic is in making as well..." ]}

This being was no simple creature.

[A being that could perceive the existence of the world’s voice was called Enlightened Awakened. The Elderlich was one such creature.]

It was not an undead, nor was it a monster like the rest of the foe they had faced until now.

It was a master, it could use divinity, and it was a sorcerer so it had an infinite amount of energy, and since it was an immortal, it was not something that could be killed or destroyed.

{[ "This was fate." ]}

"DODGE!"

-Oooooooooooooooooong!

-Boooooooooooooom...!

{[ "For thousands of years, I have waited. I have waited in this place, waited, waited, WAITED!" ]}

From the ground they were standing on to the ceiling, from the walls, to the small things present in this room... everything shook when the lich cast a single spell that would have most certainly killed them if it wasn’t for the quick actions of their joker.

{[ "I was loyal to the throne! I gave my entire life for the bastards who did not deserve it!

I was good, sincere... Loyal!" ]}

They had no idea why the lich was suddenly telling them all those things while using a grand spell that even they could only cast with the help of the runebooks.

{[ "I was their sword and shield! Even after becoming a mere undead! Even after getting separated in this corner from the rest! I kept the duty to my bones!

But no one came!

No one!!" ]}

There was an indescribable joy as well as anger present in its Eyes. They could not understand what the creature was saying since it was using ancient language; however, the malice was evident.

It meant no good to them.

They were it’s targets just like they were of every other opponent they had faced until now.

It was after their lives, they knew that much and it was not an opponent they could treat the same as every other creature they have faced until this point.

They did not know the creature was after their achievements, the higher beings watching them, the epic that actually belonged to someone else, as well as their entire being.

It wanted everything they had since it was the only way he could achieve something he had long for thousands of years.

-Oooooooooooooooooooooong!

It was a strong being.

Too strong for even this Team.

-Booooooooooooooooom!

They knew there was no way to win against this creature. It was immortal, so even if there was any way to deal with it, it wasn’t going to be so simple that they can do it themselves while surviving against those deadly attacks.

Their lives on the line here and they knew it better than anyone else!

{[ "But thank to you! We will be free! Finally! We WILL BE FREE!" ]}

They believed the boss monster was the only opponent remaining, however, they had not expected this...

Not this.

An Elderlich was too much for them.

One of this kind was certainly not something they can deal with even if they themselves became immortal.

[Ding!]

Their captain as well as the Handler were looking for a way out of this situation instead of even thinking of fighting this creature.

But...

[ "Listen up everyone." ]

This wasn’t an opponent they could leave.

It was the finale of their epic.

It had to be at least this good.
