[Lucy’s POV: ]

[ "I’m in." ]

[ "I have been here for a day now, what the hell?" ]

[ "What?" ]

What the hell? What was she talking about?

[ "Ye, and this has practically been the same since this. After I killed that-." ]

[ "Killed what?!" ]

What the hell?

What the hell was she even talking about?

[ "The Frogmen. They were the third thing that-." ]

[ "Okay stop right there." ]

She was here for more than a day already even though we touched those cards at the same time? Was this some kind of unique mechanism?

[ "What do you see?" ]

This was a test from the headmaster so it wasn’t going to be anything simple. We knew this wasn’t going to be anything simple.

She might be doing some other trail as we had suspected and I might have to do something completely different... we had no idea what we were going to face when we touched those red cards.

"The link feels the same so at least that much is fine."

[ "What do You see around?" ]

[ "I asked the question first." ]

[ "Tsk. This is a grassland. No tress and only grass.

Apparently the grass is indestructible and non toxic, but you would have already figured that out.

Anyway, there’s this restriction on me that I cannot use my magic so I had to deal with all of them-" ]

[ "You’re obviously lying." ]

For a moment there, I actually almost fell for her lies.

[ "Fucker." ]

She was lying so that means everything she said until now was a lie as well... she practically wasted our time, in simple terms, but she almost succeeded in giving me a panic attack.

[ "This isn’t the best time to play, El." ]

[ "Oh of course it is. This IS the best time to play, haha." ]

[ "Shuddup." ]

The place I was transported to after touching that red card was a place very familiar to both of us.

[ "The orphanage?" ]

[ "Yup." ]

Both of us were in the same place and though this was only a perfect illusion made by the headmaster, it was good.

[ "It’s perfect." ]

[ "Wouldn’t expect anything less from that dumbass." ]

He was an offspring, creating a spatial illusion dimension was a piece of cake for him even though it was related to the two of us.

[ "So, what do we have to do here?" ]

This place was a pretty accurate copy of the place we remembered, and though we knew this place was an illusion space, this was realistic enough for me to remember back the days we had lived here.

"Those days..."

We grew up here, we saw each other ever since Eva put us in the same basket, we played, we talked, we were together... this place, we left it right after that pig was dead, but, it certainly had some good memories attached with it.

[ "Lucy?" ]

[ "Ah, yes." ]

[ "What are you doing?" ]

[ "You know well what I’m doing." ]

[ "This isn’t the real place, dear. Don’t be nostalgic and get your fucking ass moving.

Find out what we have to do here so that we can finish this and move out." ]

We traveled the world after moving out of this orphanage, though, it all started with going into the forest on the outskirts.

’We lived in a forest for years until we were adults and ready to get into the academy and it’s fascinating how we have come so far...’

It was amazing.

These memories that I have, this unique experiences we have had, everything that we have been through until now resurfaced for a moment before vanishing once again.

[ "Right. I’ll take the upstairs first so you search-." ]

[ "I’m alredy upstairs. You continue down there." ]

She had I were still connected through our links but there was no way to know if we were in the same space or the places that we were in were connected in any way or not.

"Let’s just go up as well."

We had no idea what this test was or what we were even supposed to do in this place so it was best to see everything there was first and then judge what was possible.

A clue about the test was bound to pop up if some conditions were met accordingly.

[ "Looks like you came up as well, bastard." ]

[ "How’d you know that?" ]

[ "Just a guess." ]

[ "Nah, that’s a lie as well. You don’t do guessing... tell me the real reason." ]

This place looked just like it did when we were younger, so it means the headmaster created the version that wasn’t destroyed and recreated by the CBS authorities.

This was the replica of the place that we used to live in and if this was some kind of a practical test, there had to have something unique about both of us being here.

[ "Tsk. Bastard." ]

She was annoyed right now, and that clue confirmed this connection we were on and these voices that we were hearing were indeed of one another.

It wasn’t some kind of a trick from the headmaster but actually her voice.

And that was a good thing.

[ "When you came up, some of the rooms up here started lighting up." ]

[ "Lighting up?" ]

[ "Yes." ]

The two floored building was old and there weren’t many rooms in this place. All the young children had to share rooms and the unfortunate ones even had to live in cramped rooms.

There used to be hundreds of them back when we were young, and since the pig bastrd kept a few of us that looked attractive and were different from the others on the higher floor, we didn’t really interact much with the other children after a certain time.

[ "Yeah, well, looks like the rooms are a kind of arena. I’ll have to fight things that appear in there." ]

[ "You’re telling the truth this time." ]

[ "Of course I’m telling the truth this time. I always tell the truth." ]

No she didn’t. She mostly lied right through her teeth and there were only a few in this world that could figure out the falsity of those words.

[ "Alright then, go ahead. Tell me what happens." ]

[ "Nothing happening on your end?" ]

[ "Nope. The rooms are empty. There’s nothing of concern present and there’s no one here either.

This must be some kind of condition based testing process where we have to achieve some pre-set conditions on our individual ends to open the test panels itself." ]

It was a unique approach but knowing the headmaster, he would definitely pull something like this.

There was a lot of things that he might test us for but if we consider this to be purely academic, there weren’t many things that he could test one for.

"So... if she is being tested on her side, what am I supposed to do in the meantime?"

There was no one here and nothing was activated like it did on her side.

I could feel that she was fighting with something and that she was having fun on her side, but, there was nothing much to do here.

"Haaaa..."

I had no idea how long it would take her to finish what she was doing and I didn’t want to disturb her since she was trying to finish whatever she had as quickly as she could.

"Let’s just look around."

If Anna was here, she would curiously run around the whole place and test everything with everything she had.

She would take samples, analyse structures, and then she would even try replicating the things she had discovered from her search.

She was the curious type and even though she was some of the most knowledgeable, wise, excellent beings in this entire Worldline there were countless things even in this small world that excited her.

"Ah, we used to play here."

This place was nostalgic for sure.

"Haha, she once fell here."

We were left here by someone or something and then that pig bastard found us, and then we met Eva.

She fed us, took care of us, and after we grew up and got out of this sickening place, we moved to a fun forest.

We had a good time in that place as well, and spending years of our life in that place wasn’t that bad.

It was fun. We didn’t have a house or a home, but we traveled and learned, and trained, and taught.

’The time in the forest was perhaps the best time we ever had in this borderlands.’

The great forest still contained many of the treasures and some of them would be useful now that we are going to go after the empire, so, we should go back there.

This was only an illusion space so it wasn’t real, but the real deal still exists out there, and we certainly haven’t forgotten our roots.

"The bedroom..."

The higher floor, our room. The place we spent the longest period of our lives.

"Haaaa."

This wasn’t the real place but the headmaster somehow made this place too real to distinguish it from the real deal that existed in my memory.

[ "Done with the first room." ]

[ "Move on. I think I don’t have anything to do here." ]

I don’t know what the headmaster was thinking while creating this trial.

’He’s an offspring so he should alredy know everything there was to know about the life we have spent in this world.’

There was nothing too fun to know about us from the time we were kids, and it certainly wasn’t like he was going to find any clue about our past lives by doing something like this.

’Six Walls would break any kind of interference.’

Even the higher gods and a force of higher beings couldn’t do anything against it, even Eisheth’s parents the higher demons that we encountered in the past couldn’t do anything against these walls.

They were strange and, they existed to protect us.

He wasn’t going to get anything by doing this so...

"What’s my test, headmaster?"

He was watching, and he must be grinning at us right now.

’There was a trial waiting for us outside, and here we are, diving into nostalgia.’

He knew we knew that he would want us to deal with those demonic humans, but, to do that, we will first have to deal with these tests.

And to do that, we will have to finish these tests first.
