Chapter 340: 340 Breaking balance

[Lucy’s POV: ]

-Step. Step.

With slow and careful steps, I walked up to the ground floor of the orphanage.

-Step.

And when I reached the ground, I felt something strange... and soon after that strange feeling, I felt something better, and familiar.

"Hmm? Oh, hey..."

I was standing in the hallway that we had seen countless times, however, unlike how I had gone down to the basement by myself, I was not alone as I stood in this corridor.

"Hey handsome."

"Hello Miss pretty lady..."

El was standing right beside me as if she had also climbed up from the basement with me.

It was quite unique, but seeing from the objective perspective, if the two of us were together now, there was a good chance whatever the test was going to be... it would not be anything easy in any manner.

"Looks like things are going to be difficult."

There was nothing in this hallway as I could tell with my Mana senses so we had a moment to look at each other.

"Looks like it."

She kissed me first, and then I kissed her for a moment.

"Then, let’s finish this quickly."

Sadly, under the circumstances where there was a threat of some kind of lethal, life threatening attack being made at us, we couldn’t relax in any manner.

There was no one here but that might change at any moment.

The enemy wasn’t a physical force but this entire illusion world itself.

We had to keep our guards up as long as we were in here and there might be enemies waiting for us in any corner of this place now, so, we had to keep our eyes out for-.

-Siiiiiii—tichk!

-Clank! Clank! Clank!

For traps like these.

"This isn’t the place that we knew about anymore."

"We changed it."

After we touched the lamps downstairs, we knew something up here had changed, however, if there were strong poisonous arrows being shot at us out of nowhere, we were certain the entire house had changed significantly.

-Siiiiiii—tichk!

-Clank! Clank! Clank!

And these attacks weren’t stopping even after we blocked the first attack, We knew this shit was go8ng to continue endlessly.

-Siiiiiii—ticccccckkkkkk!

-Siiiiiii—ticccccckkkkkk!

-Siiiiiii—ticccccckkkkkk!

Holes appeared all around the walls, and even the very ground we were standing on started getting hollowed with strange dark holes.

[{ "Upstairs!" }]

This was worse than we had expected and more dangerous than what we might even expect.

-Oooooooooooooong!

Our skills were blocked and the only thing she had was her Weapon and stats while for me, the only thing I could use was my Mana.

My Weapon was available but not only were my stats were blocked, my skills weren’t working in any way either.

Not even the storage devices were working for me, so I couldn’t even use anything other than this one weapon I have.

Blocking a few arrows that were coming at us was not big thing to block but if we had to show agility and run as fast as we can to save our asses from these metal spikes and deadly arrows, I knew I wasn’t going to get anywhere with my turtle-like speed.

"Hump!"

She had to carry me this time since I was nerfed a little too much, but while she was running while me in her arms, she wasn’t going to have any freedom of saving herself from the attacks coming from all over the place.

-Clank! Clank! Clank!

She ran with her higher speed with myself in her arms while I wrapped both of us with the Mana that I possessed.

-Swiiiiiiiiiiish!

It wasn’t effective in moving since it wasn’t wind attributed Mana but since the only element my Mana had was an extreme Fire attribute, it was somewhat useful in protecting against the arrows that were coming at us.

’It was hot enough to melt the arrows and cancel out all the momentum they possessed.’

So!

-Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish!

The arrow intensity was increasing with each area we crossed and by the time we were before the stairs leading to the next floor, the arrows were practically falling at us like the waterdrops of a heavy rainfall.

There were just too many of them raining down at us and they were dangerous poison as El could tell with her eyes.

They were dangerous and not only they would induce extreme pain, getting hit by even one of them would have meant failing this test, and we couldn’t have that.

Sooo...!

She moved like crazy while holding me, didn’t complain about my modest weight and moved like both our lives depended on it.

-Swiiiiiiiiiiish...!

She was flexible already, more than I was perhaps, and when it was necessary, she showcased her flexibility and performed moves that was just unimaginable even from the standpoint of the headmaster...

"Haaa. Haaa. Finally."

When we somehow made it out of that shit and reached the second floor, the rainfall of hellish arrows thankfully stopped, and we were given a moment to breath... which only lasted for a moment.

"Oh, hell..."

Before we knew it, the entire first floor that should have been empty like the last time I was here, the same place that we had spent a good amount of our childhood playing in, the place that was completely normal and empty when we stepped foot in here, was filled with uncountable numbers of young, children zombies, undead, skeletons, ghosts, and various things that wasn’t something easy to deal with.

[ "I’ll take the lead for now. Take a break." ]

My stats were all restricted by the weapon I could still use, my Dawn, I had the skills that were integrated in my great white sword.

One of the skills among them...

{Origin}

Was the skill to strengthen the physical powers I had and, since I could release it as an energy attack as well, the hundreds of enemies that were standing before me were the easiest targets that I would have asked for.

"Ghraaaaaaaaaa!"

-Swiiiiiiiiiish...!

With a gentle movement of my hand, I slashed before myself right when the creatures started moving towards us with an enraged expression, and a simple looking slash of bright light was released from my sword that contained not only the pure energy of Sun- Solnova- but also a concentrated burst of Mana that I used with that attack.

-Thud! Thud!! Thud!!!

The physical bodied enemies that came into contact with this slash of light were indiscriminately cut into two pieces while the ghost, creatures that weren’t affected by physical attacks were obliterated the moment they came in contact with this one attack

However the attack only travelled halfway through the room before vanishing into thin air, only a third of the enemies were dealt with.

There were still many more of them left and that one attack had cost me three of the energy packets so I only had thirty three of them left now.

"GHRAAAAAAAAA!"

And apparently, there were more swarms of enemies emerging from the rooms that were present on every side of this floor.

They were endless... just like the arrows.

[ "What the hell kind of test is this?! Survival test?!" ]

She waited a little before joining me since she was out of breath, but she joined me even before she had recovered, so that was a dangerous thing from her side as well.

But we had no choice in this matter.

The powers were limited, the things we could do to deal with them were limited and, on top of that, their way these shitty undead were blocking the entire place made it nearly impossible for us to reach the stairs taking us to the highest floor.

They were everywhere, like the ants are in an anthill!

-Ghhhhhhhhhhhyyyyaaa!"

The voices they were making were disgusting and just being in this place as nothing less than torture for us.

There was a lot of things that we had to take care of as well, things like the acidic blood of the zombies and the blade-like bones of some of the skeleton undead.

They were no simple opponents so they were after both of us at the same time.

’It was also clear that they were made with the knowledge of all the moves that we frequently used so, their cumulative numbers had the abilities to perfectly counter any technique we used with either their sheer number or complex combinations of tactics.

They were powerful... but not powerful enough to block us when both of us were together.

They were just boring and time consuming... so, it took us more than a few hours just to get past them and somehow reach the higher floor with our life still intact.

However, when we reached the last floor, another trail was waiting for us.

[Ding!]

[Final section.]

And this time, there was even a system window that was announcing that this was the last part of the first test.

"After a rain of arrow and swarms of undead, they are giving us... us?"

"Seems like it."

The top floor had changed from what it used to be as well.

There was only one single rage, a practically endless place left of the top floor in the middle of which stood two shadowy figures covered in a dark mist of mystery.

However, their outline was visible...

And this outline was more than enough for us to figure out who these amazing, cool, strong, attractive looking figures actually belonged to.

"But why do we have to fight each other if they want us to fight our past selves?"

The system window this time had clear instructions, just like a while back where it asked me to go down and watch the events of the past.

"Who knows... but let’s just get this over with."

"Sure~."

She was happy that she would get to fight me but she had to keep in mind that our powers were severely restricted.

There wasn’t much we can use and after fighting that swarm of zombies for consecutive hours, we didn’t even have any great energy to move around properly.

A rest was needed and thankfully... those shadows weren’t attacking us so, we can consider this the final bosses.

’Which, as I know for certain, aren’t going to be fun to deal with.’
