Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 324: Like You
Having known Seraphina Sinclair for so long, Quentin Jennings never realized that her emotional intelligence was so low.
He was speechless and directly said, "Sis-in-law, surely you know the saying that rivals in love are especially jealous when they meet, right?"
"But what does that have to do with Desmond Fairchild and Keith Hughes?" Seraphina was utterly confused; what was Quentin talking about?
"Don’t tell me you really don’t know that Keith Hughes has a crush on you?" Quentin was at a loss for words, how could anyone have such low emotional intelligence?
Everyone knew Keith Hughes harbored ill intentions towards Seraphina Sinclair, yet she herself was utterly oblivious, wasn’t she overdoing the act a bit?
Quentin didn’t believe for a second that Seraphina genuinely didn’t get it; he was convinced she was pretending.
"What a joke, we’re just normal classmates. He doesn’t have any other thoughts about me, and he’s even been asking me to help him chase the girl he likes. How could he possibly like me?" Seraphina refused to believe that Keith liked her.
"Sis-in-law, are you serious? You’re usually so smart, haven’t you noticed anything special about Keith Hughes’ behavior towards you? If he really had a girl he liked, why is he visiting you at the hospital every day? Ignoring his own beloved to keep you, the patient, company? Does that seem normal to you?"
Quentin was at a loss for words, what was Seraphina thinking? Was it that she didn’t know, or didn’t want to know?
Or could it be that she had feelings for Keith Hughes as well, thinking being with him wasn’t so bad, so she just pretended to be confused and fuzzy, sticking with him?
But Quentin was really overthinking it. Seraphina’s preconceived notion that Keith only saw her as a classmate prevented her from ever questioning if there was anything wrong with all he’d done for her.
Now that she thought about it carefully, it did seem to exceed the concern between classmates.
Seraphina was momentarily speechless, unsure of how to respond to Quentin’s words.
Quentin knew she had listened, so he continued, "Sis-in-law, even if there’s no longer any possibility between you and Master Fairchild, I hope you carefully consider whether someone like Keith Hughes is suitable for you. Regardless, Master Fairchild has been devoted to you. Even if he left before, it was for your own good. I’ve told you this before, you don’t have to forgive him, but please don’t hurt him, okay?"
"I’ll think about it, thanks for the reminder." Seraphina’s tone was much softer, her heart was a jumble of emotions, unsure of what to say.
After hanging up the phone, Seraphina seriously recalled the details of her interactions with Keith Hughes. There didn’t seem to be any overly intimate contact between them, although Keith had been pretty nice to her, she’d always kept a safe distance as friends.
Could it be that Keith really liked her?
"What’s wrong? Why are you sitting here daydreaming? What are you thinking about?" Rosalie Quinn came over with some fruit to visit Seraphina, and as soon as she entered the room, she saw her staring blankly by the window, not knowing what she was thinking.
Seraphina muttered to herself, "Could he really like me? That’s impossible, if he liked me, why has he never brought it up?"
"Who likes you or doesn’t like you? What are you mumbling about?" Rosalie couldn’t help but cut in, it was like she was chanting some spell or something. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Rosalie, you came at just the right time, I have something to ask you." Seraphina suddenly grabbed Rosalie’s hand, looking at her earnestly.
"What’s up? Speak properly, why are you using force? You’re hurting me." Seraphina suddenly grabbed her hand with such force that Rosalie couldn’t help but cry out in pain.
Realizing what she’d done, Seraphina immediately let go of Rosalie’s hand and gave her an apologetic smile, "Sorry, I got a bit carried away."
Rosalie pulled back her hand and rubbed her wrist, giving her a reproachful look, "What has gotten you so worked up? Tell me."
"Today both Desmond Fairchild and Keith Hughes came over, and they were at each other’s throats in the hospital room. I have no idea why, and then Quentin called and told me Keith likes me, which is why he’s opposing Desmond. What do you think?" Seraphina was so puzzled by all this that she summarized everything that happened today in a few words.
I wanted to hear Rosalie’s answer, since she always had great insights about this sort of thing, I figured she could offer me a perfect explanation this time too.
After hearing Seraphina’s words, Rosalie couldn’t help but smile with a slight shake of her head and a small, open mouth, "Did they fight? Really? Although I always knew they’d clash someday, I didn’t think their personalities would actually lead to a real fight. How interesting."
"What do you mean by that?" Seraphina furrowed her brows, looking displeased.
"Now that it’s come to this, I won’t hide it from you, Keith Hughes does indeed like you, so he’s Desmond Fairchild’s rival. It’s normal for them to fight." Rosalie knew Seraphina wasn’t clueless; she just hadn’t considered it from that perspective before. Now that she had told her, if Seraphina still feigned ignorance, it’d be a bit much.
"You mean Keith really likes me?" Seraphina looked shocked, her eyes widening, "How is that possible? He’s never shown that kind of interest in me!"
"That’s Keith Hughes’ brilliance for you. If he had told you he liked you from the start, you would’ve probably rejected him before anything even began, wouldn’t that be a shame?" Rosalie understood Keith’s approach, after all, winning someone like Seraphina Sinclair’s heart requires effort.
"Indeed." Seraphina thought about it and realized it did make sense.
If when she reunited with Keith, he had expressed feelings for her, she probably would have rejected him without hesitation and cut off all ties.
At that time, having just experienced a breakup, she wasn’t in the mood to start a new relationship.
If what Rosalie said was true, Seraphina could only marvel at Keith’s high emotional intelligence.
Seeing Seraphina deep in thought, Rosalie awkwardly said to her, "Honestly, I’ve known about this the whole time, but I didn’t tell you because I knew you probably wouldn’t accept Keith, and I wanted you to come out of the shadow of your breakup, so I..."
She didn’t want to keep it from Seraphina, but she also didn’t want to see her hung up on Desmond, who wasn’t worth it.
After all, there are good men everywhere, not just Desmond, and nothing he did before was anything she could admire.
Having an affair was bad enough, and to quickly find a new love after? Such a man was truly undesirable.
So, knowing Keith’s secret pursuit of Seraphina, she allowed it quietly, even creating many opportunities for the two of them.
After hearing Rosalie’s words, Seraphina looked even worse, "You really are a great friend, aren’t you? Selling me out like this? You knew nothing about Keith’s character when he first returned. Weren’t you worried he might be a jerk and push me into another disaster?"
