Chapter 106: DIVORCE AND AN UNEXPECTED GUEST

"I don’t need someone to accompany me." Hazel was annoyed beyond words. In passing, she had not yet shown, but if you paid close attention, you would see her little bum there. freēwēbnovel.com

"As your good sister-in-law. I need to accompany you because I care about you. You have never gone through a wedding before, so I can give you an input or two."

"Good sister-in-law, my ass," Hazel muttered under her breath. She gave her a look. "It’s too late for an input. It’s already the final check; there is no need for the input."

However, Laurel brushed it off. She walked around and acted like it was her wedding instead.

Hazel watched her, but she said nothing about it. She could tell something was bothering Laurel, but she didn’t know what it was, nor did she want to know.

They were not close after all; she had no obligation to ask about her well-being.

Laurel had this very bad habit, which could piss someone off, especially people around her, very easily, as if she was born with that kind of talent. It was very impressive.

As Hazel cursed both Ranon and Laurel in her mind, Laurel was complaining about the centerpiece and said it was not blue enough for her liking; Hazel was done with her.

She called Ranon.

"I am in the middle of a meeting; I will call you later."

Hazel didn’t know whether she had to be flattered or happy, but Ranon had this habit of picking up her phone call even though he was in the middle of a meeting, only to say he would call her back later.

Actually, it was cute of him to think of Hazel that way, but she was exasperated with him now to send Laurel here.

"Look, I am not sure what you are up to, but I don’t understand why you gave my number to Laurel. She is here to cause a problem."

"You can just send her away if she bothers you."

"Yes, I will send her away. I only want to warn you about that since she is your precious sister." Hazel could hear how Ranon chuckled. Her best guess was: this man sent Laurel here only to mess with her.

He simply wanted to annoy her. This was not the first time he did this, though.

"Just don’t kill her."

That was a joke for Ranon, since he knew she owned a gun, but that statement was close to home for Hazel.

"Fine."

And with that, Hazel cut off the phone call. She then approached Laurel, who vented out whatever thing that had frustrated her, to this poor young woman who helped with the decoration.

"Come here," Hazel said.

She tugged Laurel’s hands with the intention to take her away, yet she refused. She was still trying to get mad at the poor young woman.

However, Hazel was done with this kind of drama. She tightened her grip on Laurel, and her voice turned firmer.

"Come with me now," she said in a deep voice. Thankfully, this time Laurel didn’t fight her.

She followed her close to the edge of the cliff, where they could hear the crashing waves from the sea.

And even though there were people not too far from them, their conversation would be muffled by it.

"What is wrong with you? Are you done being so spoiled? You don’t have any idea how you look, do you?"

"I am here to help you. You should be grateful."

"Helping me?" Hazel raised her brows. "Do you remember when I asked you?"

"What? You never did?"

Hazel crossed her arms. "Yeah, same. Neither do I. I have never asked you to help me."

Laurel was pissed when she heard that. Everything went so wrong with her, and she couldn’t help it. Small things triggered her; small things upset her more than usual.

She was overwhelmed with these feelings, and she didn’t know how to let go of this bitterness. It felt like a lump on her throat and a burden on her shoulders that weighed down her heart.

"I hate you," Laurel said. Her whole body was shaking. "I really hate you." She gritted her teeth as she held back her anger and suppressed her tears.

She was angry, but she wanted to cry. She had no one to vent about what was going on with her life or help her walk down this rough path.

"Why? Because I am lovely?"

"Damn you, Hazel!"

Hazel frowned. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked at her intensely.

She knew the signs of distress when someone was very frustrated because that was how Laurel looked right now. She was hyperventilating, and her whole body kept shaking.

It was not about the centerpiece of this wedding.

It was not about the cake.

It was not about the decoration or even the color.

It was about something else that caused Laurel to be easily irritated, and all Hazel needed to do was to wait for her to spill it out.

And finally, Laurel did that.

"What is wrong with you?"

"Why is everyone so damn difficult? You are just like James! An ungrateful piece of shit!" Laurel cursed under her breath.

She looked a mess even though she was dressing nicely and putting makeup on; you couldn’t hide what you truly felt beneath those exteriors.

"So, it’s your husband?" Hazel said lightly, and Laurel stopped her rambling; she gave her a dagger look, as if Hazel had said something offensive.

However, the hatred was not directed to Hazel. It was directed to someone else, but Laurel was shifted-blaming to make herself feel slightly better.

"I don’t know what happened in your marriage, but if it’s something to do with your husband, get rid of him."

"Honey, getting rid of someone is not as easy as you think."

Hazel chuckled darkly. "Muffin, it’s easier than you think." She meant it.

"You don’t know what the problem is with my marriage. You don’t know what the meaning of a marriage is."

"You know what? I have seen countless divorces, as well as countless marriages, where one person stayed in the relationship just because they didn’t want to get out of there. They familiarize themselves with the pain, with the heartache, and live with it."

"Oh, shut up, you know nothing."

However, Hazel ignored her words and kept talking. "Sadly, the only way people will learn how to appreciate you is by losing you. Some people learn in that way."

Hazel kept track of the prominent figures’ dirty deals and dirty affairs; she knew what kind of ’happy marriage’ they had.

"If you are unhappy with your marriage, that’s a good reason to leave." Hazel shrugged her shoulders. "That’s only my opinion."

Laurel was still shaking, but she stopped rambling. She glared at Hazel with hatred instead, yet she was certain that hatred was for someone else.

"I have been married for ten years. Do you think that is something easy to throw away?"

Hazel smiled at Laurel. "Ten years..." Hazel mumbled under her breath; she remembered someone who had a ten-year relationship too, and now she could see the familiarity between Olivia and Laurel.

Both of them were holding tight to a sinking ship. They chose to drown instead of saving themselves just because they thought the ship was the only safe place they had.

But the truth was: they only thought that way because that was all they wanted to see and believe.

"Ten years... You stayed with him when he hurt you just because you have been with him for ten years? What a lame excuse." Hazel grimaced.

"You are talking big now."

"What is the meaning of ten years compared to the rest of your life? Even a day is too long if you are not happy."

"How old are you?"

"I am younger than you, but I am an old soul." Hazel grinned from ear to ear. "It’s stupid to stay with someone who doesn’t give you the respect that you deserve."

"If you are getting divorced for every little inconvenience, there is no point in a marriage." Laurel narrowed her eyes. "Did Ranon know how shallow you are?"

"Marriage is about respect too, in my opinion." Hazel smiled mischievously. "For your information, the number of divorces increases every year, though."

Ranon returned to his office first before he went to the wedding venue after his meeting with Rafael.

Everything went well, the deal ran smoothly, and the meeting ended half an hour earlier than they predicted. Therefore, Ranon returned to his office because he wanted to get something.

Rafael actually didn’t say anything suspicious. He acted normal.

But when Ranon came to the office, he found Ema was already there. Valerie was still taking her leave; that was why there was no secretary there to warn him that someone was waiting for him.

Or, Ema must have told the other staff not to say anything to him.

After all, Ema was still his father’s wife. Her words still weighed something.

"Ranon." Ema was sitting on the sofa. She stood up the moment Ranon stepped inside the room. She smiled in relief. "I was thinking of coming to your apartment, but I am sure you wouldn’t allow me to enter. That’s why I was gambling when I was waiting for you here."

"Leave," Ranon said. He didn’t even spare her a glance.

He needed to come here to get a document that he would give to Hazel.

"Ranon, please, we really need to talk."
