Chapter 107: RANON AND EMA’S PAST

Ema closed the door and locked it. She approached Ranon, and of course, this made Ranon really mad.

He didn’t want to be in the same room with her. Not because he didn’t want any misunderstanding, but because he simply felt disgusted by her.

Breathing in the same air with her was not something he had planned for his day. "Get away from me, Ema."

However, Ema did the opposite; she approached him and grabbed his arm, but Ranon swatted her hand away harshly to the point Ema stumbled and fell to the floor.

She widened her eyes in shock. Not even once did Ranon ever reject her very strongly like this, even though she knew how he used to be before he joined the Leighton family.

"Ranon, please, I want to explain it to you. I have been keeping this for seven years, and I can’t handle it anymore. I am sorry for what happened seven years ago!"

Ranon didn’t feel any sympathy. He didn’t even feel sorry for pushing a woman this hard when she crossed the line.

He had never claimed himself, a gentleman.

Therefore, as he watched, Ema was still sitting on the floor with teary eyes, staring at him expectantly, wishing there was a shred of love that once Ranon had for her. Ranon looked for the document instead.

He treated Ema like air.

"Our breakup was not completely my fault," Ema said. Her voice was shaking because there were a lot of emotions that she was trying to hold back.

She had been holding onto these feelings for years. She couldn’t tell anyone about it, and Ranon had never let her explain why she chose to be with his father instead.

Not even once did Ranon give her a chance to explain her side of the story.

The only thing that Ranon said was, ’If there were a problem in our relationship, you should have told me first before you slept with my father, because after you did that, whatever problem in our relationship wouldn’t matter anymore. The problems are nothing, so are you.’ That was all Ronan said.

That was his parting words to her seven years ago when she chose to break up with him; even though it was Ema’s idea, she was the one who struggled the most.

Ema couldn’t read what was in Ranon’s mind. He looked so cold and nonchalant as if their breakup meant nothing to him.

"You are always like this, Ranon. You never changed at all. You didn’t care about anyone else but yourself." Tears escaped her eyes. "You didn’t care about me. All the things that we have gone through didn’t mean anything to you, right?"

Ranon opened another drawer. For some reason, that damn document chose this time to disappear.

"Ranon, you are also at fault! Do you think you treated me greatly during our relationship? Do you think you have done everything right for me, Ranon?"

Ema finally got off the floor since Ranon didn’t even have any intention of helping her to stand up. She walked towards him, but this time she had learned her lesson not to touch him.

Her hand was still in pain; she was sure it was going to bruise. "You lied to me. You said you didn’t want to get married. But what now? Why didn’t you want to marry me at that time? If only you had changed your mind about the marriage, I would have considered our relationship!"

Talking about it made Ema emotional, and she started crying. Her chest felt so tight; she was in so much pain.

After all, this was the conversation that had been long overdue; she had been holding back for seven years, and now it felt like the dam was broken and her emotion was flooding out.

"You lied to me! You said you didn’t want to get married, but you are going to marry someone else now!"

Ema continued when she didn’t get any reaction from Ranon.

"You said before that you didn’t want to join the Leighton family because you hated your father, but now here you are!"

Ema waved her hands frantically to show the office; she gestured to their current situation.

"You are part of the Leighton family. You are part of them. You lied to me! If only you hadn’t lied, we would have been together. If only you had not deceived me and gone back on your words, we would have been together, and I didn’t need to give birth to your father’s child!"

Ema was hysterical at this point, and only then did Ranon grace her with some reaction. He stopped searching for the damn document and looked her in the eyes for the first time since he saw her in his office.

"No, we would have been together if you hadn’t spread your legs for my father."

The words stabbed Ema.

She felt like there was a dagger that was twisted in her chest. She couldn’t believe Ranon said that to her. She knew he could be harsh towards other people, but aside from the time when they broke up, he had never intentionally hurt her.

"How could you? How could you say that? Life has been so hard on me." Ema was crying desperately now. "I am so sorry for what I have done. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I was young, stupid, and weak, and you were too much for me."

Ranon crossed his arms; it didn’t impress him to see Ema’s tears, as if he was bored out of his mind to see the sight of her.

One could feel it; there was no shred of sympathy, only a cold detachment.

"If I was too much, probably it was because you were not enough. Don’t blame me for that, Ema. What happened between us was over years ago."

Ema couldn’t accept that; she looked into his cold eyes and couldn’t find any remnants of the love he once had for her.

With no other way, Ema told him the truth, since Ranon was not interested in the explanation. She told him all the things that happened seven years ago and why she made that decision.

"I was so stupid to listen to my sister. Lena told me that my life would have been much easier and happier if I had accepted your father."

Lena was her sister, and she was a mistress for a prominent figure in this country.

Actually, that was how River knew about this dark secret between Ranon and his stepmother.

"I was so tired of living modestly. I don’t want that kind of life. And I was not sure with you since you made it very clear from the beginning that you didn’t want a marriage."

Yes, that was right. Ranon told her from the very beginning that marriage was never in his mind, and he was not going to do that even for her.

But he promised she would be the only woman for him as long as she gave him the same courtesy.

"I didn’t want to live like that. You didn’t give me the security, the safety that I needed at that time. You didn’t want to marry me, and you let go of the opportunity to live a happy, fulfilling life as part of the Leighton family because you were too prideful to work for your father!"

Ema lifted her head, and anger crept in. She was so mad with their situation and what Ranon put her through.

"You are a hypocrite!"

Now, seven years later, Ranon did all the things that he said he wouldn’t do, leaving her behind in this misery to take care of that old hag, who could only sit in the wheelchair!

Ranon and Hazel’s wedding felt very real for Ema right now.

Before, Ema had tried to communicate with Ranon, and he turned down every attempt she made. To the point, Ema decided to stop.

And for the last seven years, she could only stare at him from afar, yet it felt different now.

In the past, she always thought Ranon would be like that forever. He would stay single, with no intention to tie down with anyone.

There would never be a relationship between them anymore, but it also meant Ranon wouldn’t be involved in any relationship with anyone else.

How wrong she was.

Ranon was going to get married, and as the date came closer and the media talked about it a lot, Ema felt overwhelmed by the reality before her eyes.

It shook her to her core.

This was all she had dreamed about seven years ago with him.

Meanwhile, Ranon was still looking for that document. He had wasted his time here.

"If you loved me, you would have abandoned your pride and married me! If you truly wanted to be with me, you would have joined the Leighton family! You would have tried harder to win me back!"

Thankfully, Ranon finally found it. He was going to leave when a message came in.

Hazel was being impatient. She asked him where he would come to the venue because she was tired of Laurel giving her an attitude.

[Come here now, before I scratch your sister’s face; she is too much!]

And then the second message came.

[You know what? I have this urge to push her off the cliff. Do you think you could bail me out if I did that?]

For some reason, those silly messages managed to make Ranon smile. He even chuckled a bit. He had to admit that he liked her sense of dark humor.
