Chapter 108: INSINUATION

Ranon’s change of expression didn’t go unnoticed by Ema, since her main focus was on him, and seeing him smiling like that enraged her.

She grabbed Ranon’s hand, and the phone fell.

"Why are you like this!? Why couldn’t you love me enough to be with me!? Why didn’t you choose me at that time!? Why didn’t you love me enough to put aside your pride!? Why!?"

Ema was out of control.

"I was not the only one at fault here! It was not completely my fault!"

Ranon didn’t blame her. He didn’t even say anything. He couldn’t care less whose fault it was. It happened seven years ago, and he would rather not waste his time by reminiscing about the past.

"I was there for you! I was there when you were nothing! I was there to support you! But why couldn’t you give me something that I really wanted!? You didn’t treat me well during our time together! Did Hazel know that we used to be together?!"

The cold exterior that Ranon showed to her was too much; Ema became more hysterical.

It bothered her. The way he looked at her was as if he was staring at the dirt on the tip of his shoes.

"Did Hazel know how you used to treat me in the past!? Did she know how you would react even when a man looked in my direction!? You used to be very possessive and overprotective! I couldn’t even breathe near you!" Ema screeched.

Ranon was going to leave, but Ema clutched onto him tightly. He needed to leave right away just in case Hazel decided to commit a murder.

A murder in a wedding venue would bring a stroke of bad luck.

"Why?!"

Ranon looked at her coldly, and out of instinct, Ema took a step back. Somehow, she felt this strong fear; her instinct told her to leave him alone.

This was the same look that Ranon used to give his enemy. But Ema had gone too far to back down. She might not get the chance anymore.

"Did Hazel know how you used to treat your woman? Did she know that you almost killed someone and were imprisoned?"

Ranon beat someone up, and that man was so close to his death.

The reason for that was because he slapped Ema’s butt when she walked. Thereafter, the gruesome sight happened right before Ema’s eyes, and she still remembered it clearly.

The squelching sound of that man’s face, as blood covered his body and the sound of his breaking bones was nauseating.

Ranon, with his anger issue, almost killed that man.

For that reason, he had to stay in jail for three months before someone bailed him out. And when Ranon joined the Leighton family, Denzel got the record erased.

Therefore, you wouldn’t be able to find that history on Ranon unless you were there and witnessed the accident.

Not only that, but his overprotective nature and possessiveness were overbearing. Three months in jail didn’t make him shy away when he had to confront anyone who had their eyes on Ema.

"You don’t think that woman will stay with you when she learns the truth about all of that, right? Do you think she will still be with you after she saw this side of you?"

Ema saw how Ranon grew quiet, and she thought she could push her luck.

"You have never been with anyone else after me. That’s why I know you are still the same. Do you think Hazel will accept that side of you?"

Ema could feel the hatred and disgust from Ranon. It bled her heart to know this man, who used to worship her, looked at her condescendingly.

"I accept you in your lowest and stay with you at your worst. I am the only one who can accept you."

Ema tried harder. It frightened her to realize he slipped through her fingers.

"Why did you treat me like that in the past? I have to keep up with all of your craziness. I stayed with you. I could endure it. I could endure everything with you. But when I asked two things from you, why couldn’t you relent for me?! If you loved me..."

And when Ema said that Ranon had enough, he didn’t wait for Ema to finish her monologue. He walked away.

Unfortunately for him, the office’s door was locked, and Ema had the key.

However, it didn’t stop Ranon at all. He kicked the door open, and this shocked Ema.

Instead of asking for the key from her, Ranon chose violence and broke down his office door.

Ema knew from the beginning how violent, cruel, and brutal Ranon could be. Seven years, indeed, didn’t change this side of him.

Ranon only managed to get better at controlling his anger, but that dark side of him was still there.

The broken door caused a loud noise when, on the second attempt, Ranon managed to take the door down.

And when he walked away, two or three staff peeked into the office room. But when they saw Ema’s glaring eyes, they immediately left.

It would be the talk among them, a gossip inside the office.

Currently, with all the things that happened, Ema didn’t want to think about it; she would rather not deal with that since it would break her heart even more.

It shattered.

Just like how Ranon broke down the door.

Ema hated it.

She grabbed her dress. She felt this anger, but the strongest feeling that she felt right now was regret.

She hated Ranon for not doing this when he was with her; she was angry because she let her sister get into her head and influence her decision; she was also angry with herself because she gave herself to Ranon’s father.

But the wave of strong regret hit her when she finally faced reality; it should be her on the wedding day, standing next to him to be his bride.

Ema had never stopped loving Ranon, but the fact that he was with no one calmed her down. She thought she had moved on.

However, the wedding was going to happen within three days, and Ema finally snapped.

The thing that triggered her was her dress for Ranon’s wedding, where she would attend as his stepmother.

She felt very embarrassed when she was with Denzel. She knew all the people judged her because of her young age and obviously because they thought she only wanted Denzel’s money, which was partially true.

Even so, it was different when Ema had to attend the wedding of the man that she loved. It felt like a humiliation.

She was very embarrassed to stand there next to Denzel, who was nothing but an old hag in a wheelchair and needed assistance all the time while watching Ranon marry away with someone else.

It was pure torture.

When Ema’s head was swamped by despair and rage, the ringing of a phone broke the silence, and it snapped Ema out of her reverie.

She didn’t care about it at first, but then she saw it was Hazel who was calling Ranon.

This was the phone that Ema snatched when Ranon had just received a message from her earlier, and he accidentally dropped it as Ema tried to get his attention.

Quickly, Ema wiped her face; her mascara was ruined, yet that was the last thing on her mind. She cleared her throat and picked up the phone on the last ring.

"Yes, what do you want?" Ema’s voice was sweet and careful as if her breakdown earlier had never happened.

For a moment there was silence, and Ema smiled, feeling the satisfaction.

"Hazel, is that you? I am sorry, you must be looking for Ranon, but right now he is in the bathroom." She intentionally made her voice a little bit breathy. "He is taking a bath right now." Ema smiled triumphantly.

Somehow, this made her feel slightly better.

"Taking a bath?" Hazel frowned. "Taking a bath? What the fuck?"

Ema’s smile grew wider, but then it disappeared almost immediately when Hazel spoke again and sounded very upset.

"I have been waiting for him here for hours! He said he was going to come here and get his crazy sister away from me, but now he is taking a bath?! What the fuck with that man? I can’t even stand his sister for another minute, and he is taking his beauty bath?!"

Hazel was on her final straw with Laurel. She couldn’t control what she said.

On the other hand, Ema was speechless. This woman completely missed the meaning behind her words.

Undoubtedly, Ema insinuated that they just had sex, but Hazel didn’t get it, and this pissed her off.

"Don’t worry, he will come to you even though he will be a little bit tired." Ema was still not satisfied with the way Hazel reacted to what she said.

She was in so much pain; thus, Hazel had to feel the same.

"I don’t care if he is tired. I only want him here right away. I am going to go crazy, and you know it’s not good for the baby."

Ema gritted her teeth and tried to regain her control upon hearing the pregnancy. This woman said it very casually, reminding her that the baby was Ranon’s.

"Don’t worry, he will be there for a while. I will make sure he will not be late."

"Of course, he’s already late from what he promised me. And by the way, why are you the one who will ensure he comes?"
