Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 23: BEING DRAMATIC
Chapter 23: BEING DRAMATIC
They couldn’t be seen in public; thus, Ranon ordered food for them; he had not yet eaten anything either. His day was packed, and Hazel’s pregnancy news and visit were a surprise. He couldn’t say whether it was a pleasant one or not.
"What are you doing?" Ranon looked at Ares and Lucian, who actually joined them to have supper. "Go back to your hotel."
"We are hungry too," Lucian replied nonchalantly, eating the food slowly. He was sitting next to Hazel, while Ares was sitting at the other table, but it was pretty obvious that the two of them stayed because they wanted to know what kind of conversation Ranon would have with Hazel.
These two people could be very insufferable.
"I don’t think I have introduced myself properly to you," Lucian said.
"I know you," Hazel replied, without taking her eyes from the chicken wings in front of her. "You are Lucian Katz. The lawyer for the Leighton company."
"The lawyer," Lucian drawled on the word. "I like that."
"So, why are you here?" Ares asked; he didn’t try to introduce himself, since he believed Hazel had known more information about him than necessary. "Did Mr. Rose know that you are here?"
Hazel gave it some thought. "I don’t think so." Unless Logan opened his mouth, he didn’t think Greyson and Dylan would figure out where she had left.
"Ranon can be accused of kidnapping you if Mr. Rose learns you are here." Ares started with his exaggeration. Sometimes, he could be very cautious; it’s annoying.
Hazel and Lucian craned their necks almost at the same time; their gestures were almost comical.
"You are overthinking."
"You can’t count this as kidnap if I came here willingly," Hazel said and continued eating. "Did he always overthink like that?" she asked Lucian.
"Yeah, you can say that." Lucian shrugged his shoulders and continued to eat.
The two of them actually chit-chatted a bit about random things, and as Ranon watched them, Hazel and Lucian actually got along really well.
"The two of you can leave now," Ranon said once Lucian and Ares had done eating. He was being nice with them to let them stay and finish their food.
"No, it’s okay; I think we need a lawyer when we talk about this."
"Hm, I agree with her. You need a witness and a legal perspective for whatever deal you are going to have." Lucian immediately jumped at the opportunity. "But what are we going to talk about?"
"I am pregnant, and I want him to take responsibility for it."
Hazel had thought about the pros and cons of this situation, and having the baby would help her achieve her goal faster, though she needed to move fast and finish them off before her stomach grew bigger and she would be rolling instead of walking.
Within three to four months, she had to kill Arlo and Aubrey, or else she needed to wait until she gave birth. Clearly, if that was the case, it would delay her plan, but then, by being Ranon Leighton’s wife, she would have more opportunity to meet with the Barlowe family.
"Wait, what?" Lucian snapped his head towards Hazel, while Ares strode across the room and sat down next to Ranon, who was glaring at Hazel.
"Come again," Ares said with bewilderment. "You are pregnant? Are you sure the baby is Ranon’s?"
"Of course."
"The baby can be someone else’s," Ares insisted.
This time, Hazel met Ranon’s eyes, and she looked at him innocently. "Why don’t you say anything? Should I tell them about how you took my V card?" Hazel slightly blushed; she felt embarrassed to even say it.
On the other hand, Ares was relentless. "We need to be sure about this; we can’t just take your word as it is."
Ares then proposed a few suggestions, but Ranon was being impatient.
"What do you want?" His voice was devoid of any emotion, and his expression betrayed nothing. "Are you trying to blackmail me?"
Hazel gasped; she clutched her chest, being overly dramatic with the accusation. "How could you say that?" She frowned. "I will never do something like that."
"So?"
"I want you to marry me. I don’t want the baby to be born out of wedlock." She lowered her head and feigned sadness, while Lucian choked on his coke; yet, all of them ignored him. "If you want to get a divorce later, I will agree to that; I will be fine; but please... think about our baby."
Hazel was pleased with her acting, but when she lifted her head and saw Ranon was unfazed, she really wanted to scowl.
"The baby is innocent. It will ruin my reputation; it will tarnish my family’s name, and I will be the outcast in my family because I have a baby out of wedlock. I don’t want the baby to grow up in such a toxic environment when everyone will look down on her or him."
Hazel added a few tears to make it more convincing. She placed her hands over her flat stomach to add a more dramatic effect.
"I don’t mind them talking about me, but not my child." Her lips trembled as she stared at Ranon sincerely.
"Or you can get an abortion, and there will be no problem." Ranon was not a fool; he could see that Hazel was acting, but he couldn’t tell what her goal was.
In the beginning, she didn’t seem to be interested in him, but now she wanted him to take responsibility. Did her family put pressure on her? Was she really pregnant?
"How could you say something like that?!" Hazel stood up; she looked angry now, and this startled the three of them. "I am the victim of this, and I will be the one who has to carry the consequences of it for the rest of my life. Fine. If you don’t want the baby, I will raise my child on my own. I will work hard to give my baby a better life!"
