Chapter 42: FAILED ATTEMPT. DATE NIGHT

Without having another choice, Hazel had to accept the two bodyguards that Ranon sent for her. Thankfully, they understood the assignment where they kept their distance from her. Not too far, but not too close to catch other people’s attention.

A woman named Yara and the other one was a man named Nolu.

Yara looked so young that when she was around the campus area, she could be mistaken as a student herself, while Nolu looked aloof; he had this expression that always looked very serious. Yara was more cheerful.

Two days after they arrived, Hazel decided that she was going to the Coinesance Hotel, where she managed to retrieve the information of Arlo’s schedule. He was going to be there tonight, and thankfully, that hotel was in Talbar City. It was only an hour’s drive away from the Rose house.

Hazel was going to see her luck with this. She knew that hotel and had mapped that place because a year ago she had a target who stayed in that same hotel too.

If she was lucky, she could take Arlo down tonight; but if she was not, she was going to gain more information about what he was up to and how the situation was within the Lozen family.

Everything had been prepared; she took out a small bag from Hazel’s bag collection. But when she was about to go out from the window in order to avoid the CCTV in this house, someone knocked on her door.

"Who is that?" Hazel locked her bedroom door and told all the servant that she didn’t want to be bothered since she was going to sleep earlier.

"This is me, Yara. Mr. Leighton wants to say something because you don’t pick up his calls."

"Tell him to call me tomorrow; I am going to get my beauty sleep." Hazel perched on the windowsill, ready to make a jump; she was not going to jump on the ground directly as she could have a miscarriage if she did that, and she knew better.

There was a stretch-out branch that she could use to soften her landing; she simply needed to reach it and swing herself until she reached the ground.

"Mr. Leighton says that he is going to come here if you don’t want to pick up his call. He is on the way here."

"What?!" Hazel immediately went to the door and unlocked it, but she only poked her head so she didn’t reveal her clothes. She was not wearing pajamas after all. "What do you mean he is going to come here?"

"He says he is going to take you out on a date."

"No, I don’t want a date." This was very bad timing. He had been very busy lately, but Hazel didn’t mind at all, which caused the rumor that the two of them were not really dating each other.

That Hazel was only a lucky girl who happened to be Ranon Leighton’s date for the night because of the new collaboration between the Rose family and the Leighton family in business; thus, Ranon Leighton took her out out of politeness.

What a stupid gossip, and she didn’t care. She was going to shut them up with her wedding invitation anyway.

"No, I don’t want to have a date."

"But Mr. Leighton is already on the way here. He is twenty minutes away." Yara looked at her clock. "He says you need to be ready once he is here, or else he is going to help you."

"Shit!" Hazel slammed the door; she cussed that man out but then stopped herself. "Can’t say bad words; the baby will hear. Oh, damn!" She grumbled and then went to change her clothes.

Her mission in her first attempt to kill Arlo failed.

And now she had a date with Ranon.

That man actually came fifteen minutes later, and Hazel was still trying to figure out what she should wear. She chose a long black dress that hugged her body perfectly. She had not yet shown, so she could wear it. After that, she took a red coat as an outer.

After putting on some makeup, she found Ranon was already in her living room, and Logan was there too.

"Let’s go," Hazel said. She threw a glance at Logan, and her brother looked upset; whatever conversation they had, it seemed it didn’t please him in the slightest.

"Where are you going?" Logan asked. "Have you gotten permission to leave the house at night?"

Hazel rolled her eyes; she didn’t know what kind of game Logan tried to play, but whatever it was, it was not funny at all.

"Is this how you greet your brother-in-law?" Logan directed his question at Ranon.

"Drop it."

Ranon stood up from his seat and looked at Hazel briefly; he nodded, as if he agreed with her choice of dress, and then shifted his attention toward Logan. "Let’s drink another time."

Logan looked smug when he heard that. Hazel guessed Logan wanted Ranon to grab drinks with him. "You have to respect me as your older brother-in-law."

"Older brother, my ass," Hazel hissed. "You are younger than him."

Ranon was thirty in two months, and Logan was five years younger than him; just because he was Hazel’s older brother, it didn’t make him Ranon’s older brother too.

"Let’s go." Ranon took Hazel’s hand, and Logan simply smirked at her. She was not sure what that meant.

"What happened? I thought you were only there for less than ten minutes; how could you manage to piss Logan off?"

Ranon raised his brows when he opened the car door for her. He put his hand above her head so she wouldn’t bump her head.

"I should be the one who is pissed."

"So? What happened?"

"Your lovely brother challenged me to a drinking contest."

"That’s childish," Hazel scoffed. "Surely enough you will not entertain that, right?"

"I invited him to one of my clubs, and he can drink as much as he wants."

Hazel wanted to facepalm herself.
