Chapter 72: ENRAGED

Aubrey couldn’t help it. She screamed at him. She pointed her fingers at him. She grabbed his shirt and forcefully turned him around so he could look her in the eyes.

"What do you mean with this?! What do you mean with all of this? I have called you so many times, but you kept ignoring my call, and now you are drunk and being so pathetic because of River?! Why are you being like this?!"

"Stop it, Aubrey. Leave. Don’t bother me. My head hurts. Stay away from me." Arlo tried to get away from her, but she gripped his shirt tightly.

"What?! Why?! If I don’t want to stay away from you, what are you going to do?!" Aubrey used all of her strength to shake his body, though it was impossible for her to rattle him.

Arlo had enough with this woman. He glared at her. He felt this urge to hit her, even though he had never hit a woman before. However, it was so different with Aubrey. The sight of her alone made his blood boil, especially with the fact that every time he saw her, he would be reminded of what she had done to River.

This woman had ’almost’ killed River; probably that was the stem of his resentment towards Aubrey.

That was why he kept ignoring and avoiding her: because this woman was the one who had hurt his fiancé.

That was right; Arlo kept thinking of River as his fiancé, even though right now Aubrey was pregnant with his child.

"What!? Why are you staring at me like that!? Do you want to hit me!?"

She was right though; Arlo was going to hit her only if she were a man. He didn’t sign up to have this crazy woman. Aubrey was not like this. She was timid and sweet.

She was a woman who would make you feel like you needed to protect her. She could make you feel desired and needed.

River was too independent. She could do everything on her own and didn’t need Arlo’s help, which made his ego a little hurt.

Yet, Aubrey was different... She knew how to act in front of a man.

However, the woman before his eyes was completely different. This woman was unhinged.

Meanwhile, Michael stood right outside of the room. He listened to their conversation. It was not like him to eavesdrop on someone else’s conversation. But ever since that night, the night when Arlo drunkenly confessed to him about the fact that he was the one who had killed River, he couldn’t get rid of that idea from his mind.

Somehow, he believed Arlo and Aubrey had done something to River. They had done something so bad that it caused River to disappear for months.

If what Arlo said was true, it meant they were trying to kill River, but now Arlo was having regrets about the action.

That was the best conclusion that Michael could come up with from this bizarre situation.

Inside the room, Aubrey kept screaming and crying for Arlo to respond to the outburst, but the man only stared at her.

The alcohol must still have had some effect on him, which caused Arlo not to give any reaction. But Aubrey yelled at him, cursed at him, and called him names.

She had a complete breakdown.

"I am pregnant with your child! With our child! Why don’t you think about me?! Have you ever thought about me at all?!"

Aubrey slapped Arlo again, and to his credit, he saw the slap, yet he didn’t even try to dodge it as if he was convinced that he deserved it.

In a way, Arlo was punishing himself.

However, the moment Aubrey brought up River’s name, Arlo yanked her hand to stop her from talking and then covered her mouth.

Aubrey was struggling to get away from him; she bit his palm, but Arlo didn’t even flinch.

He then pushed her to the bed and snarled at her viciously. "Shut up! Shut the fuck up!"

This must be the first time Arlo screamed at Aubrey like that, and this startled her. She was scared of him. He had never been so violent with her. He had never raised his voice on her.

But now, the look in his eyes alone could tell you that he was really going to kill her if only he had a gun in his hand.

Somehow, Aubrey was sure that he was going to kill her. He raised his hand, and Aubrey flinched away. But when she opened her eyes, she saw Arlo actually went to the door.

He yanked it open, and Michael almost pissed himself when he saw his older brother’s angry face.

"Wh—What? I just walked past." Michael said, stuttering, because he got caught in the worst timing ever.

"Do you really think I will believe such bullshit?" But of course, Arlo didn’t believe that he actually pushed Michael against the wall, pinning his body, and pressed his palm around his neck, strangling him.

His face was so close to his, which made Michael on alert. His older brother was deadly serious right now. He was an assassin after all.

"Get away from here. If I find out you are trying to eavesdrop on my conversation like this, I am going to kick you out of this house, and I am going to take your apartment." Arlo shook his head; he contradicted himself. "Stay in your apartment from now on, and never come back. If I see you still in this house today, I am going to beat you to death. Do you understand?"

Michael gulped down. He was scared of Arlo now since his older brother had never been so angry like this with him, no matter what he had done.

It was so true because Michael had caused so much trouble for his older brother, yet he had never threatened him like this before.

"Leave this house and stay away from my business."
