Chapter 82: PETTINESS

Instead of taking Hazel back to the main road so she could take a taxi to go back home, this wench actually called Ranon to come and pick her up, which was something that Hazel tried to avoid since that man would have learned that she had run away from her bodyguards again.

She didn’t have any intentions to be scolded right now. She was too tired for that. Therefore, what Laurel had done to her was rather vindictive.

Both of them really didn’t have the best interests with each other. It was safe to say that they didn’t like each other from the first sight.

For some reason, Laurel had been very hostile toward her future sister-in-law, and even though Hazel could understand, it didn’t mean she would accept the way she was being treated.

"What happened with Carl?" Laurel asked Hazel for the fifth time.

Unfortunately for her, Hazel felt she wanted to be petty. After all, Laurel refused to drive her. "You can ask him," Hazel said.

She crossed her arms and legs. The gesture showed that she didn’t want to be bothered.

"Or you can tell me right away."

"I don’t know; I forget," Hazel replied casually. She didn’t even think twice when she answered her. She wanted her cucumber juice, but somehow Laurel only gave her a cup of water. This woman was being difficult.

And because that was how she acted, Hazel didn’t drink it, just in case this woman was being spiteful and she put her spit inside.

"What is it? Did the pregnancy turn you senile, and you forgot about it already?"

Hazel rolled her eyes; she touched her stomach and caressed her baby bump. The sight made Laurel angry, but she held back her emotion. She balled her fists and gritted her teeth.

"I didn’t forget what happened; I just misplaced the memories. I think if you wait for a while, they will come back eventually." Hazel smiled harmlessly. "I will give you a call once I remember them."

Hazel shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. She didn’t take her seriously. After all, why didn’t Laurel ask Carl herself? He was her stepson, right?

On the other hand, Laurel was quiet for a while, and Ranon was on the way here. It would take him around an hour to get here, and this was the most boring one hour in Hazel’s life since Laurel didn’t make it easy for her.

Thankfully she kept her mouth shut now, but it didn’t last for long because not long after that she started talking again.

Hazel loved her more when she didn’t talk.

"Tell me, are you trying to manipulate my son and cause trouble for him?"

Hazel looked in her direction with a deep frown between her brows. The question came out of nowhere. "Pardon me? What do you mean?"

"I don’t know what your intention is to get into the Leighton family, but I don’t think you are a good influence, neither for Ranon nor for the other members of my family."

Hearing that, Hazel was speechless, and Laurel took that as an opportunity to say her monologue.

"Why? You can’t answer my question because I am telling you the truth? Because I uncovered your true intention?" Laurel shook her head as if she was very sorry towards Hazel. "You are still so young. Your family background was not really bad either. You should have valued yourself and known better than to jump into a man’s bed and get yourself pregnant."

Hazel shook her head. She clicked her tongue, greatly annoyed. "I didn’t say anything because your level of stupidity rendered me speechless."

"What did you say?! Say it again!" Laurel dared Hazel mock her again. She was enraged.

But of course, Hazel was being generous; she didn’t mind repeating the same thing; she actually looked more comfortable.

Staring into Laurel’s eyes, she repeated what she said earlier, but this time she enunciated every word clearly.

"Your level of stupidity rendered me speechless. Should I repeat it again, or should I record it for you to listen to whenever you want?"

Laurel stood up. She couldn’t take the disrespectfulness from Hazel. This woman was young, very, very young. Hazel was fourteen years younger than her, and as the older generation, she demanded respect from her.

That was why Laurel couldn’t understand why Ranon would choose this woman to date. She was young, stupid, and arrogant.

"How dare you call me stupid?! Do you even know who you are talking to?!"

Hazel tilted her head. "Do you even know who you are talking to?" She repeated the question. She looked at Laurel defiantly, and for a split second the latter felt this woman was too cunning for her age.

Laurel didn’t know who Hazel Rose was before this because she had been very low-key, and from what she knew, the daughter of the Rose family was not someone who liked being the center of attention.

But apparently, she was completely wrong about it. The woman before her eyes didn’t mind having a confrontation with other people nor being put under the spotlight. This was not the image that Laurel knew from the information that she had gathered.

"You are being disrespectful." Laurel’s voice was shaking because she was holding back her anger.

"You know, respect goes both ways. If you feel I don’t respect you, you probably need to see how you treat me all this time."

"I don’t need to think about that."

Hazel nodded, agreeing with what she said. "Neither do I." Her curt reply only caused more trouble because right now Laurel became even angrier.

She cursed under her breath, but Hazel kindly reminded her that she was pregnant.

"Don’t curse in front of me. The baby can hear that. I don’t want the baby to have a bad influence so early."

And surprisingly, Laurel stopped cursing, but it didn’t mean she stopped being mad at Hazel. She sat down again. The night grew even quieter now. Laurel did not talk, and Hazel didn’t mind being left alone.

Yet, somehow, Laurel insisted on staying. Probably she was afraid if Hazel tried to steal her flower vases, despite her annoyance by her presence.

Fifteen minutes later, they could hear a car engine, and when they thought it was Ranon, it was actually Laurel’s husband.

James Starling was a tycoon in this city. He was almost on par with the Rose family and only a little bit behind the Leighton family in terms of their company’s annual profits.

But actually, ten years ago, the Leighton was not as big when Ranon took over the command, and Laurel found some difficulties when she married into the Starling family, yet they still got married.

Some people said Laurel only came for money, but it was not true since their marriage had lasted for a decade by now, and they looked good in front of the public; unless there was something going on behind the scenes, their marriage looked fine.

But now, Laurel accused Hazel of having a hidden motive behind her marriage to Ranon.

Laurel was right, yet the irony didn’t lose on Hazel...

That was all the information that Hazel could gather.

Seeing her husband, Laurel approached him and kissed his cheek while Hazel stood up as well, just for the sake of politeness.

However, Laurel looked at her as if Hazel was going to jump her husband any time. What an annoying bitch.

And after that, Laurel left the scene. She went inside the house with her husband, which left Hazel alone; she was grateful for that, though, since she didn’t want to be bothered by her.

Fortunately, Hazel didn’t need to wait for long, because ten minutes later Ranon arrived.

From the look on his expression, it was very clear as day that he was not very happy with Hazel right now. After all, his future wife had run away from Nolu and Yara again.

"Where is she?" Ranon asked his half-sister.

Laurel heard the car engine and saw Ranon’s car from the CCTV. Therefore, she came out to meet him before he could talk to Hazel.

She had a lot of things to complain about, and actually she was rather ecstatic to see Ranon’s expression right now, because he looked very angry.

That was great. This man indeed should be angry with that woman. Since she brought nothing but trouble for their family.

"She is inside. She came with Carl, and I don’t know what she was plotting. Carl has not said anything to me ever since they arrived. I think she gave him a bad influence or something," Laurel said enthusiastically, fanning Ranon’s anger.

She walked so fast because she was so eager to see what Ranon was going to do to Hazel. That woman should be punished for what she was doing.

"Come here. You need to come and see it by yourself. She is nothing but trouble. I have told you before, but you didn’t want to hear me. Not only that, she was even being very disrespectful to me. I am not sure about the wedding between you two."

Laurel was spouting nonsense since the wedding was going to happen no matter what. To be fair, there was nothing she could do when the wedding was so close right now.

"There, there she is," Laurel entered the living room where Hazel stayed. She was waiting for Ranon to come. "She has been causing trouble and was being very disrespectful to me."

The look on Ranon’s face changed when he saw Hazel.
