Chapter 84: I WILL BE YOUR HUSBAND

"What happened with Carl?" Ranon posted a question, as if Hazel didn’t ask anything before. He swiftly changed the topic. "I heard you were with Carl, and you drove him back home. What happened to him?"

"Oh, that one." Hazel turned on the music because it was too quiet inside the car and then crossed her arms.

But it was too loud for Ranon; he wanted to hear her voice, so he turned down the volume a bit. You still could hear the song was playing in the background. It was a sad song.

Hazel frowned, but she said nothing.

Sometimes, Ranon wondered why Hazel was really fond of sad songs. freewёbnoνel.com

"Actually, I saw him being bullied by his peers. Well, I can’t say they were his peers because they look a few years older than him. He was trying to fight them off, but unfortunately, he was not strong enough. Therefore, as a responsible adult, I stepped in and helped him. That’s it. And as for the reason why he was driving the car and why he was away, I don’t know. I didn’t ask much. If you want to know, you can ask him yourself."

Hazel said those things truthfully. There was nothing to hide; after all, the reason why she didn’t tell Laurel about it was just because she wanted to annoy her. That woman had annoyed her first.

It was enough reason for Hazel to hold a grudge and mess with her a little bit. Well, what did you expect from someone like her?

Ranon nodded; he didn’t think that was his place to say anything about, nor was there something that he could do about it.

"You fought them off," he remarked.

Hazel pressed her lips. She had slipped her tongue, but she quickly recovered. Her expression remained calm. This was not her first rodeo to deal with this tricky situation.

"I know a move or two, but they seemed polite enough not to fight a woman." A sprinkle of truth and a little bit of a lie—that was a right composition.

Ranon said nothing, but he noted the fact that Hazel could fight.

The car was slowing down to make this trip a little bit longer since Hazel was willing to talk right now. He wanted to push his luck. Trying to get something out of her.

"What were you doing in the hospital? Why were you there?" Ranon glanced at her stomach, and Hazel noticed the gesture.

"Don’t worry, there is nothing that happened to our baby. Actually, I was there to visit my friend. You know, I told you before, I have a friend who is a designer, and I want the wedding dress from her. That’s why I came to visit her boutique. But she was not there. As it turned out, she has been hospitalized. Therefore, I came there to visit her. That’s it."

Hazel didn’t need to lie; she was being honest with him. Well, aside from the part where she said Olive was her friend.

"And I will get the dress tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," Hazel added casually.

"In that case, why didn’t you bring your bodyguards with you? You could have gone with them. There was no need to run away."

Hazel didn’t have a certain answer for that. Because, normally, she was not used to being followed around. It was her ’normal.’.

It was she who had been following someone all this time. Therefore, it felt a little bit weird, and she felt out of her element when she had to be followed by Nolu and Yara.

There was nothing wrong with them, but for Hazel right now, she had a lot of things that she had to keep secret. Because of that reason, she didn’t want them to be around very often, especially when she visited someone related to River or the Lozen family.

"I have no answer for that. I just don’t want them to follow me very often."

"Are you not comfortable with them?"

"No, of course I am comfortable with them."

"I will change the bodyguard." It sounded like Ranon was talking to himself.

"No! What are you talking about?" Hazel immediately refused the idea. "I am comfortable with them. Why are you going to replace them? I like them. I love them."

Ranon frowned at the last statement. "But it has been a few times you ran away from them."

"Oh please, whether you change the bodyguards or not, I will still run away if I feel I want to," Hazel replied nonchalantly.

And the rest of the trip was spent with them listening to the sad song. And as if the universe was on Hazel’s side, it actually started raining out there.

The temperature went down very quickly, and Ranon had to turn up the heater.

When the car stopped at the traffic light, Ranon reached for something on the back seat. It was actually a blanket. The blanket had printed lemons and cucumbers on it.

The man said nothing, but he put the blanket on Hazel’s thighs to keep her warm, and this sweet gesture made Hazel smile.

"You know, you can be very sweet if you want to. I think you have already fallen for me. Don’t you think so? Or else, you are not going to be very affectionate with me like this, right?" Hazel laughed a little when she saw the look on Ranon’s face.

She was only teasing him, okay? There was nothing serious about it. But somehow Hazel found a new hobby. She liked to see the change in his stoic expression.

"Don’t get your hopes too high. Count your blessings while you have it."

"Oh, so you are my blessing? I think instead of a blessing, you are my lucky star." Hazel winked at him, and Ranon only gave her a look. This was the woman who would be the mother of his child.

"I will be your husband."

"That sounds more romantic."

Ranon was lost for words.
