Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 92: UNFAMILIAR FEELING
Chapter 92: UNFAMILIAR FEELING
Logan had been making fun of Hazel whenever he found her in the kitchen in the middle of the night, looking for something to eat.
"You are eating for two. I will never make such a statement. Eat," Ranon said; and with that, Hazel ate his breakfast happily. She was indeed still hungry. The strawberry cake and the soup didn’t help.
Probably she needed two strawberry cakes for breakfast from now on.
After their small conversation, Ranon walked out of the bedroom to have a phone call with Lucian and Ares because after the crucial information that Hazel gave him, there were a few changes for their later meeting.
"I will come back for a while." Ranon then stood up, but he tucked a strand of Hazel’s hair behind her ear when he walked past her so it wouldn’t get caught when she ate her cake.
He did it without even thinking. But this small gesture didn’t go unnoticed by Hazel.
Somehow, she felt a little bit weird with the small affection that Ranon showed to her. It was not obvious; it was only a simple gesture, like tucking a strand of her hair, patting her back, holding her hand, or even staying with her when she was vomiting.
He even knew where she put her hair tie. Not only that, the best part was obviously when he gave her his breakfast, knowing she was still hungry, even without her saying anything. The cherry on top was when he didn’t judge her for that.
Well, that was a little bit cheesy, but she liked the last gesture the most.
Just a moment after Ranon left the bedroom and Hazel was still eating her breakfast, Renna knocked on the door. But before she could give her permission to enter, the old servant had already slipped into the bedroom.
She must have known that Ranon was not inside, or maybe she saw him walk outside earlier.
"Are you still hungry, miss?" Renna was surprised to see Hazel was eating Ranon’s food.
"No." Hazel tried to answer with her mouth still full.
"I should have prepared something for you more."
"It’s okay." Hazel waved her hand dismissively. She enjoyed her breakfast and then drank her milk. "What happened? Do you want to say something?" Hazel asked because she could feel how anxious Renna was.
Renna then sat down next to Hazel; she clasped her hand, which made her confused.
"Hmm?" Raising her brows, Hazel gave Renna a questioning look. It was not usual for Renna to act like this. "What happened? Is there something you want to say to me?" Hazel pushed the empty plate away. She was done with her breakfast, and now she was very full.
She didn’t think she could escape Renna right now, though the sleepiness started creeping in. She was left with no other choice but to listen to her first.
On the other hand, Renna didn’t immediately talk to Hazel. She looked at her with this concerning gaze.
"Miss, you know that I have been with you since you were little. I have always been there for you, you know that, right?"
"Yes, I know. What is wrong, Renna?" Obviously, occupying Hazel’s body, giving River free access to Hazel’s memories.
She knew how close Hazel was with Renna, or it could be said that Renna was the only adult in this house who gave a shit about Hazel’s well-being.
Renna cared for Hazel like a mother cared for her child.
"What happened?"
"You know that I only want the best for you."
"Yes..." Hazel was a little bit awkward since she had never had an emotional talk with someone else as River.
She got a father who was more interested in the progress of her training and a stepmother who didn’t even care about the well-being of her own biological child.
Therefore, it was understandable why Elise didn’t even spare River even a glance. River should be very grateful that Elise was not an evil stepmother who tortured their stepchildren.
"Yes, what is it, Renna?" Hazel glanced at the door.
This was her first instinct: to run away. She was not comfortable with this situation. It was awkward for her.
"Hazel, answer me truthfully; please be honest with me."
"Oo...kay..." Hazel drawled the answer. "I will be honest with you." She would say anything that made Renna leave her alone. Renna was too intense.
"Please be honest with me, okay?"
"I will be honest with you. What do you want me to answer?"
Renna took a deep breath. She closed her eyes and then kissed Hazel’s knuckles, and out of instinct, Hazel wanted to retract her hand, but Renna held her tightly.
Renna then opened her eyes and stared at her closely, as if she could see her straight to her soul. "Are you happy?"
"What do you mean with that?" Hazel was a little bit confused with the direction of this conversation.
"Tell me, are you happy now? Are you happy with that man from the Leighton family? Are you happy with this marriage, or is this what your brother wants?"
Renna knew she came down too hard on her, but she was very worried. Everything happened so fast.
"Of course." Hazel nodded innocently.
"I know how ambitious Dylan can be." Renna didn’t know about the details, but somehow, she could make an assumption, which was not so far from the truth. "Tell me, are you happy with this pregnancy and this upcoming marriage? Do you really want to be with him?"
Hazel blinked her eyes. There was no question about that. It was actually she who proposed this arranged marriage, but Renna really looked so worried, and this made Hazel feel a little bit weird since no one had ever been worried about her.
Her father had never been affectionate with River, even when she was still little.
And for Arlo... He was like himself. He was cold. He showed his affection in a different way. That was why somehow, whether it was River or when she occupied Hazel’s body, she was still unsure how to respond when someone worried about her.
This was something that she was not familiar with.
"You don’t need to worry, Renna. I am fine. Ranon has been treating me well."
"Are you being honest with me?"
"Yes, of course. Can’t you see?" Hazel nodded at the breakfast. "He gave me his breakfast, and he stayed with me during the night. He also helped me when I got my morning sickness. He held my hair when I vomited."
Hazel shuddered when she remembered that, and then she was rambling to ensure Renna that she was in the right hand.
For the reason that she didn’t know what to say during this emotional conversation, she felt awkward and uncomfortable, yet she appreciated the way Renna asked about her well-being.
"I am glad that he treats you well, but can I ask how his family is? Did they treat you well when you came to their house?" After all, Hazel was pregnant. Let alone a powerful family like the Leighton family, even the Rose family would be frowning if a woman came to their door and said she was being impregnated by one of the sons.
"Yes, they treated me well, Renna. There is nothing for you to be worried about."
"I am glad. I am really glad. I can see that man didn’t mistreat you," Renna talked to herself. "I don’t want you to go through another pain."
"You don’t need to worry. He is very kind, and more so, his family is not that bad. But, even if they are bad, I don’t think I will meet with them often since I will live in a different house from them."
"I actually looked into the Leighton family, but there is nothing important that I can find on the Internet. I think whatever I found there, you must have already known about it."
Hazel was surprised; Renna was actually looking for more information about the Leighton family. Based on the original Hazel’s memory, this old servant was not tech-savvy. Obviously, there was nothing crucial she could find there.
"You are looking into the Leighton family?"
"Because I want you to be comfortable with them, since you are going to marry into their family; I want you to not be lacking in anything."
Hazel didn’t know what to say about that. She had never had someone who was this concerned about her. It rather touched her heart.
"Don’t worry, Renna, I know how to protect myself." And Hazel indeed meant it. She knew how to protect herself well.
"But I still can’t stop worrying about you. I see you like my own daughter. I am sorry if this is a little bit offensive for you."
"No, of course not." Hazel knew that the real Hazel, in a way, also saw Renna as a mother figure for herself.
"They accept you, right?"
"Yes."
Well, Hazel was not completely lying about it, because they indeed accepted her since she was pregnant with Ranon’s child, but there was no point in telling Renna about the way Laurel had been treating her.
More importantly, she didn’t want this old woman to be more worried about her.
"I am glad. I am glad..." she said it over and over again. "Even though the circumstances are a little bit uncommon, I am glad that you have been treated well."
Hazel shook her leg; she was awkward with this conversation and to have someone who was thinking about her this intensely.
