Unwritten Desires-Chapter 32
Chapter 32: Chapter 32
Eleanor
My gaze flickered to Liam who was staring at me with furrowed brows. His hands were still on my shirt but because of the way we were standing he couldn’t see my phone screen which also meant he couldn’t see who was calling.
"Why aren’t you picking up your phone?" Liam questioned.
"That’s none of your business." I shot him a glare as I pushed him away. Thankfully he let go of me.
I then let out a small huff as I turned to my phone that had already stopped ringing. It’s not like I wanted to pick up so I didn’t exactly care...Liam was in my room and I obviously couldn’t have a conversation with Jake when he was right here in my room.
I needed to fix that.
"Leave." I told him.
"Is this how you speak with all of your guests?"
I couldn’t stop the humorless chuckle that slipped out as I adjusted my clothes. "Apparently, you haven’t realized this, but you’re nothing more than a huge thorn in my side let alone a guest at my house. So please do us both a favor and leave."
He didn’t reply. He just stood there staring at me.
I was about to repeat my words when a loud chime broke through the silence and I instinctively glanced at my phone only to find two messages from Jake.
"Thea please pick up."
"We need to talk."
Before I could even finish reading them the phone started ringing again and my head snapped to Liam who still had his gaze fixed on me.
Oh crap. Whatever Jake wanted to talk about must have been very important and I certainly didn’t want Liam to know about it.
Seeing I wasn’t planning to answer the phone, he began closing the distance between us in few strides and I didn’t want him to think I was scared so I didn’t back away. "Why are you hesitating? Answer the phone."
"No." I said clicking the power button and putting it behind me. "That’s my choice to make not yours and I thought I told you to leave my room."
He didn’t speak for a few seconds. He just gave me a skeptical look as I narrowed my eyes at him. "You told someone."
"Oh please." I fought back an eyeroll. "I gave you my word. Do you actually think I have the time to gossip about you?" I scoffed as I sized him up.
"Okay then." He slipped his hands into his pocket, the gesture making him look so calm and controlled it became infuriating. "If you didn’t tell anyone then..."
"Nope." I held up my palm, cutting him off before he uttered those words. "We are not doing that." I shook my head.
"Just like I thought." He said and before I could understand what was happening he yanked me around, locking my arms in place.
"What the..." I managed to muster before he snatched my phone from me. Unfortunately for me, Jake didn’t get the message and kept calling even though I ignored them.
"You really love being forced to do things, don’t you?" He said in a low whisper before looking at the name on the screen. "Well I guess you’re lucky because I love forcing people to do things as well. Now I’m going to pick up and you’re going to answer this call like you normally would. Got that?"
"This doesn’t make any sense." I struggled to slip out of his grip. "In case you don’t know, I’ve known about you for a really long time and I can assure you that I haven’t told anyone about your real identity. So just stop this madness so we can go back to our normal lives."
But of course he didn’t listen and still went ahead to answer the phone.
God he was so annoying and so stubborn.
But so was I.
"Hello? Thea? Are you there?" Jake’s voice came from the other end.
In that moment I took back everything I had ever said about Jake being a sweet, resourceful, loyal character because apparently the guy didn’t freaking know when to call it quits.
I was certain the guy had left about 15 missed calls already.
Goodness.
"Thea?" Jake called out again but I clamped my mouth shut, showing Liam that I meant what I said and that I wasn’t going to say a word but after Liam continuously dug his fingers into my skin and I couldn’t take it anymore. I let out a small cry.
Thank God my room was on the farthest part of the house. I was even shocked that woman hadn’t come up from all the noises. I scowled as Liam’s breath brushed against my neck followed by a silent taunting chuckle.
What kind of human doesn’t clip their fucking nails?
"Thea, are you okay?" Jake asked as he obviously heard my cry. Liam then brought the phone closer to my face as he was still holding my hands in place.
Guess I had no choice then.
"Yes Jake. I’m fine." I didn’t bother adding any hint of normalcy to my voice but I was forced to when Liam’s grip on my arm tightened. "I think my network is bad so maybe that’s why you haven’t been able to hear me."
"Oh...okay." He sounded a bit skeptical and kind of nervous.
I had no intentions of continuing the conversation but surely Mr. Grumps here wasn’t going to let me off the hook and my hands were practically screaming from how brutally he handled them so I really had no choice in the matter.
"You said you wanted to talk?"
"Yeah..." he sighed. "...I figured you’ve been wanting that for a while now but clearly I’ve been avoiding you."
What??? Was he going to talk about our breakup on the phone??
What was his freaking problem?!
I jerked my head up to see Liam and from the look on his face I could tell he was very interested in our conversation.
Great job Jake.
Great job.
"...yeah." I hesitated before saying.
But then again, if I actually thought about it, it wasn’t exactly his fault. I mean how was he supposed to know that my pretend boyfriend was now holding me captive and also listening in on our call?
Plus I’m certain Liam figured that Jake and I were dating after he saw us together. And even if he hadn’t, my blackmail in the chemistry lab that day would have probably given us away.
"I’m not exactly...um taking our break up very well." His laugh lacked humor. "You said you were going through a lot and you needed space and...and I just thought I was just dumb for not noticing that and I blamed myself for it but what I just don’t understand is...you and that Liam guy..."
My gaze snapped towards Liam again and he rumbled a warning in reply. Oh no.
"You wouldn’t even let me hold you or stare at you for too long in public but now you..." Jake hesistated a bit before he continued talking about my new relationship, oblivious to the intense stare-off that was going on between Liam and I.
I knew what he wanted. He wanted me to tell Jake that we were over and he shouldn’t care about my relationship with Liam and end the conversation there but I’d been wanting to talk to Jake and assure him that our break up had nothing to do with him for days now...I couldn’t do that.
"I miss you Thea. I really do."
Thea....
An image flashed in my head and I suddenly remembered the note.
Right, I was still in the middle of that before he came in. Gosh.
Maybe if I speak fast enough...
"Jake I...you didn’t do any...."
"Thea’s busy right now." Liam interrupted pushing me away from him. "...and no you can’t call back later because if I see or hear that you tried to contact or meet up with her in or outside our school..." he paused lifting his head to meet my gaze as I evened my breathing. "Well let’s just hope it doesn’t happen." He said before hanging up.
I should have really given it a second thought before I chose to blackmail Liam that day.
And here I thought that I was going to have the upper hand here.
