Chapter 33: Chapter 33

Eleanor

"Wow." I sneered. "What happened to staying low and keeping your identity a secret from everyone?" I said just after he hung up, my voice heavy with sarcasm.

I decided that I wasn’t going to say anything about the fact that he had just interrupted my call to threaten Jake because that conversation would’ve just driven me over the edge.

Liam simply stared at me, his expression unreadable and suddenly his gaze flickered to my arms and I turned to find blood trickling down my arm.

However, I wasn’t surprised. I had noticed the blood gathering in the cut his fingernails left earlier when he finally let go of me.

I mean what did he expect? It wasn’t like back then in school when I was wearing a long sleeve top. "I suppose you’re happy now." I said putting my arms together with a smile that didn’t reach my eyes, so he could see the wounds he left on my hand.

He didn’t answer right away. He just studied me, like he was debating something and it made my skin prickle with irritation.

"If you would’ve just done as I said then, that wouldn’t have been necessary," he lifted a brow. "Besides it’s not my fault your skin is so fragile." He said, sounding somewhat irritated.

"Whatever." I scoffed with an eyeroll as I made my way to my bed. I then plopped down right beside my bedside table and reached into one of the drawer, pulling out my first aid box.

I could still feel Liam’s eyes on me but I was already tired of continuously telling him to leave. If he didn’t want to leave then that was fine with me. Sooner or later he was going to realize that he had better things to do and realize that he was wasting his time here.

As I carefully tended to my wounds a loud chime echoed in the room and my head snapped towards Liam as I assumed it was my phone but turns out it was actually his.

I didn’t know if it was just me but he looked a bit frustrated as he stared at his phone screen. Did that notification sound have something to do with his crazy undercover plan?

Liam let out a low curse confirming my thoughts. If only I could get a glimpse of that phone. We were almost arriving at the part of the story where I had stopped reading but to be honest it didn’t really bother me because things had already been going way off track since the moment I avoided my death...or Thea’s death rather.

I couldn’t stop a hiss from slipping out as I dabbed my wounds with the antiseptic. My eyes flickered to Liam and like I expected his eyes were on me and no longer on his phone.

He then moved towards me with both of our phones in his hand and for a second there, from the way he looked down at me, I actually thought he was going to help me clean my wounds but clearly he proved me wrong when he dropped my phone on my bedside table without sparing me a glance and turned to the door.

"Get ready. We’ll be skipping school the day after tomorrow."

I stiffened as I processed his words.

Surely I had heard him wrong.

Did he just say we were skipping school the day after tomorrow??

"Excuse me?" My eyelids fluttered.

"You heard me." He said with his back to me. "Better start thinking of a reasonable excuse to tell that nosy friend of yours. I don’t want her to come blabbing to your mother and asking why you weren’t able to come to school. And as for the note...don’t even think that you can worm your way out of it. I’ll find out sooner or later but definitely not today."

"Whoa. Back the fuck up." I held up my palms as I got up from my bed. "What do you mean think of a reasonable excuse?" I shook my head instinctively.

"You can’t just say that we’re skipping school the day after tomorrow and actually expect me to follow you to God knows where." My forehead wrinkled in confusion.

"Okay then...try me. Don’t show up when I tell you to." He swiveled around to meet my gaze with that taunting smile of his. "And then maybe I can start by getting rid of that little friend of yours. And since she seems to trust me wholeheartedly, it’s gonna be an easy job."

"Don’t you dare pull the blackmail card on me." I scowled, pointing my finger at him.

"Oh but it’s fine when you do it." He arched a brow and a second later his phone started blowing up with more notifications. He then glanced at it before heading for the door again. "Make sure you’re ready the day after tomorrow, four eyes. But just in case you’re not..." he paused as he reached for the door.

"Remember...I love forcing people to do things." He said before disappearing behind the door, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I didn’t even know what to think now. And it wasn’t like something like this had happened in the novel so I couldn’t even use it for reference.

My gaze wandered to the spot where I had hidden the note earlier and I let out a loud groan as I plopped down on my bed again. "I wasn’t even done dealing with one of my problems and now another one has shown up."

God no.

I lay down on my back for a while staring at the ceiling with a blank mind. I then gathered the strength to push myself off my bed and get the note from my shelf.

I had seen Sofia’s writing a lot of times but this didn’t look like hers. I thought as I stared down at the paper in my hands before sitting on the chair near my dressing table.

My arms were still burning from the treatment but I just decided to ignore it and fix all my attention on the note for now.

Even though the writing didn’t look like Sofia’s it was still possible for her to use a different writing?

An image of Sofia smiling at me then flashed in my head and I banged my head forcefully against the dresser.

"Ughhh. This isn’t making any sense at all." I grumbled out. "How the hell am I going to figure this out?"
