Upgraded: Rise Of The CyberKid-Chapter 48: Black Cub

Dexter and the rest walked aimlessly across the desert like land.

Eva pushed a button on her wrist and a map came up, well that is if you can call it a map.

Majority of the map was blank and the places that were visible were places that were relatively close to the base.

"Well this map is worthless, it seems we have to find our way on our own." Eva said.

"Do you remember were the statue that you and your brother found was?" Dexter asked.

"Not entirely, but I still vaguely remember the way" After looking in different directions and hesitating on which way to go, she pointed in a certain direction and they all went that way.

They were walking for miles and all they saw was endless plain lands for miles and miles to come.

"Let’s set up camp here, it is getting kind of late." Dexter said.

Everyone acknowledged it and brought out the automatic camping bags they all brought with them.

They all just had to place it on the ground and it would immediately construct itself.

Of course Eva’s was the most advanced of them all.

Dexter started a fire and he began roasting the meat he brought with him.

"What are you doing?" Eva asked.

"Roasting, never heard of it?" Dexter said jokingly, but to his surprise Eva nodded.

"Wait for real?" Dexter asked.

Eva blushed, she was kind of embarrassed as she did not know if it was shame not to know what is roasting, she just had never heard or seen it before, maybe because of how advanced their tech was.

"Hey do you guys know what roasting is?" Dexter asked Wilbert and the rest.

They also shook their heads as they didn’t know.

"Well come over and I will teach you." Dexter said.

They were all fascinated to learn something they had never learned before so they all gathered around Dexter and listened.

"The point of roasting is the direct use of fire..." Dexter went on and explained all he knew about roasting and from the looks of things they were all genuinely interested in learning about roasting.

After the roast was done, Dexter shared it among everyone so they could have their first taste of roast and see if they liked it.

When Eva and others saw the crispy brown meat, they were all eager to eat, plus the tantalizing fragrance from the meat made them all drool.

When they sunk their teeth into it they were all surprised, it was more delicious than they thought it would be and they eagerly asked for more.

While they were having a good time and they were all enjoying their roast, Dexter and Eva all became alert, they both could hear a faint growling sound in the distance.

They looked into the distance but could barely see anything as it was dark.

"You heard that right?" Dexter asked.

"Yeah."

Wilbert and the rest were confused, they weren’t as strong as Dexter and Eva so they didn’t hear the sound just now.

"Should we go over and take a look?" Dexter suggested.

Eva hesitated for a moment before she agreed, Wilbert and his group also decided to go check it out as well.

Dexter, Eva, Wilbert, Anthony and Richard all set out to find out what was making that growling sound.

They hadn’t walked very far when they heard the growling sound again.

This time, Wilbert and his group heard it and became alert.

Dexter listened intently and then pointed in a specific direction.

"This way."

They all followed Dexter in the direction he pointed at, visibility was low so they had to walk cautiously, even though Dexter’s eyesight was great, he could only see a few meters in front of him.

Dexter and the group were walking when Dexter suddenly stopped.

"Why did you stop?" Eva asked.

"Ssh, you hear that?" Dexter asked back.

Eva kept quiet and tried to listen for what Dexter was hearing.

Crunch

They all heard a faint crunching sound, it kept getting louder and louder, until Dexter realized what it was.

"Move!!!!!"

But it was too late, the ground under them gave way and they all plummeted to the floor.

After falling for a while they all came to a stop in a cave.

Dexter looked up and saw how high up they were from the hole they fell through was and knew they couldn’t go out that way.

"What do we do now?" Richard asked.

"We keep moving, there is no reason for us to stop, besides even if we stay here, we would just die." Wilbert said.

Richard realized how stupid the question he asked was and kept quiet.

They were all about to continue moving forward when they heard the growling sound again, but this time I was louder and seemed like it was getting closer.

All of them stood at alert and we’re ready to face whatever it was that was heading for them.

The growling kept on getting closer and closer, then they all saw the creature that was making the growling sound and they were stunned.

Not because it was a deadly beast but because it was a small little cub.

It was black and looked like a black panther but it had scales around it’s body which gave it an odd look.

Even though it was not what they expected nobody let their guard down.

The cub growled at them and it seemed like it was trying to communicate with them.

Of course Dexter and the rest had no clue what it was saying, the cub seemed to notice this and used it’s paw to rub its tummy before growling again.

Dexter now had a faint idea about what it was trying to say, he brought out the meat they had roasted earlier from his bag and gave it to the cub.

The cub was elated as it rushed forward to eat.

After it finished it, it went forward and rubbed itself in Dexter’s leg.

"It looks like he likes you." Eva said.

Dexter just nodded in acknowledgement.

While they were playing with the cub, they heard a roar. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"What was that?"

They looked further into the cave and it looked like whatever was making the roar was coming towards them, at a quick speed.

"Wait if this is a cub, shouldn’t it have a mom." As Richard said that, it dawned on everybody that the creature rushing towards them could be it’s mom.

But as soon as everyone thought of it they shook it out of their minds, they just hoped it would be another adorable creature like the cub.

Alas things did not always go as one planned, the creature that came out of the cave looked exactly like the cub, it was only bigger.

When it saw the cub in Dexter’s arms it roared in anger and rushed towards him.
