Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 168: Staying the Night
"Why are you so impatient? You’ve waited three years, what’s a little while longer?"
"That’s because for these past three years, Jett didn’t have another woman by his side!" Shirley Wentworth clutched her aching chest. "That’s why I could wait quietly, thinking I would show up with the child at the most opportune moment and become Mrs. Sterling."
"But for all my scheming, I never expected a Vivian Quinn to show up out of nowhere!"
"You’re Shirley Wentworth. Just get rid of her with that take-no-prisoners attitude of yours."
"What do you know!" Shirley Wentworth shuddered with lingering fear. "I’ve told you, Vivian Quinn is no ordinary person. Jett likes her a lot, and they’ve already slept together. If she gets pregnant, where will that leave me in Sycamore Bay!"
"Forget about me—I’m afraid even Elle would be pushed aside. After all, Jett was willing to drive away his own mother for Vivian Quinn’s sake!"
"Don’t lose your composure. The moment you panic, you’ve already lost," the person on the other end soothed. "We’ve been planning for three years. We can’t let the appearance of one woman throw off our rhythm, or you’ll be the one to suffer."
Shirley Wentworth finally managed to calm herself down. "I know. You’re right. I can’t lose my composure. Vivian Quinn... she’s nothing!"
"That’s more like it. I’m already making arrangements. You don’t have to worry about a thing."
...
Vivian Quinn played with Elle for a good while before carrying him back to his room.
Shirley Wentworth was already waiting. "Tired from playing? Mommy will take you for a bath and then it’s off to bed."
Elle was reluctant to leave. "Vivian, I want to go for a walk again tomorrow."
Vivian Quinn patted his head. "Okay. As long as Elle eats his meals and sleeps well, we can go for a walk every day."
"Okay, I’ll go take a bath and sleep now."
Vivian Quinn went back to her room and took a shower. Jett Sterling was very considerate of her tonight; after a few kisses, he turned off the lights, and they went to sleep.
Vivian Quinn hadn’t slept well the past two days, so it was a rare night of peaceful sleep.
The next morning, the two of them got up together, washed up, and went downstairs.
"Jett, Miss Quinn, good morning." Shirley Wentworth was in the living room, having breakfast with Elle.
"Morning," Vivian Quinn replied, but then she noticed Nanny Jenner’s hesitant expression and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong?"
Nanny Jenner glanced at Shirley Wentworth and said, "Miss Wentworth spent the night at Sycamore Bay yesterday."
Vivian Quinn froze.
Jett Sterling looked at Shirley Wentworth and said coldly, "You broke our agreement."
Shirley Wentworth looked apologetic. "I’m sorry, Jett. I was putting Elle to bed last night and accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up, it was already morning. I didn’t do it on purpose."
Vivian Quinn ate her breakfast slowly and methodically, without saying a word.
"Ah, so sleepy..." Ian Sterling walked into the dining room yawning. Sensing the strange atmosphere, he asked, "What’s wrong? Is the world ending?"
Vivian Quinn was in no mood to deal with him. She took a couple of bites, then stood up and said, "I’m heading to class. Enjoy your meal."
Ian Sterling was baffled. "It’s so early in the morning. Who pissed her off?"
Jett Sterling’s expression was grim as he maneuvered his wheelchair away.
Ian Sterling forgot all about eating and chased after them. "Vivian Quinn, take my car!"
Vivian Quinn didn’t hesitate and got into the passenger seat.
Ian Sterling was burning with curiosity. "What happened? Quick, tell me."
Vivian Quinn felt a tightness in her chest. "It’s nothing much. Just that Shirley Wentworth didn’t leave last night. She stayed at Sycamore Bay."
"She’s really shameless. If this keeps up, is she going to move straight into the master bedroom on the second floor?"
Vivian Quinn turned to look at him. "You sense it too?"
"Tch, how could a ’green lotus’ like her possibly escape my brilliant eyes!"
"...What’s a ’green lotus’?"
"Are you dumb? It’s a combination of a ’green tea bitch’ and a ’white lotus.’ ’Green lotus’ for short."
Vivian Quinn: "..."
"She seems so normal, yet you could see through her."
"I’ve seen countless women. What kind of scheme haven’t I witnessed?"
Vivian Quinn pressed her lips together. "So you knew all along that she likes Jett, right?"
"Years ago, whenever she had the chance to see my uncle, she’d always try to get close, but he never paid her any attention."
"Then why didn’t you tell me sooner?"
"What was there to say? So many women admire my uncle. You’d be exhausted if I told you about every single one."
"How can she be the same as other women? She’s Elle’s mother!"
"Even if she gave birth to a Twelve or a Thirteen, my uncle still wouldn’t be interested in her. What, you don’t trust him?"
"Of course not," Vivian Quinn said without thinking. "If Jett were interested in her, would he have waited until now?"
"Exactly. Don’t worry, you’re the only one in my uncle’s heart."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t stop the corners of her lips from turning up. "I know."
"Tsk, tsk, look at you smiling. Shoving your public display of affection in my face again. I didn’t even eat breakfast because of you!"
"I didn’t get to eat my fill either." Vivian Quinn patted her stomach. "Let me treat you to breakfast. The soup dumplings behind the school are delicious."
"Deal."
The two of them went and had a leisurely breakfast, and as a result, they were late for class.
As soon as they ran into the classroom, they saw a familiar face.
Jett Sterling turned his head, glanced at them, and said coolly, "Lateness is never permitted in my class. Get out and stand in the hall."
Vivian Quinn: "..."
Ian Sterling: "..."
The two of them stood in the hallway, attracting stares from people passing by.
"Why is my uncle here?" Ian Sterling asked in a low voice.
"Part-time job."
"Give me a break. Mason Landon is gone, so there’s no need for him to teach this class. Just seeing him gives me the creeps!"
Vivian Quinn chuckled. "Looks like he’s the only one who can keep you in line."
Halfway through the class, Jett Sterling wheeled himself out. "Vivian Quinn, come with me to the records room to get something."
"Oh."
Ian Sterling asked, "What about me?"
"Keep standing."
"..."
Vivian Quinn followed the man to the empty records room. Jett Sterling locked the door from the inside, stood up from his wheelchair, and abruptly pinned her against the wall.
"What are you doing?" Vivian Quinn’s heart raced. "Let me go!"
"There’s no one here, and no security cameras."
"That doesn’t make it okay!"
"Are you angry?" The man lifted her chin and kissed the corner of her lips. "Because of Shirley Wentworth?"
Vivian Quinn pouted. "I’m not angry."
"Your pout is so big you could hang a soy sauce bottle from it, and you still say you’re not angry?" The man chuckled. "I’ll deal with the Shirley Wentworth situation."
"Does Shirley Wentworth want to marry you?" Vivian Quinn asked bluntly.
Jett Sterling was curious. "Why do you think that?"
"Can’t you tell that Shirley Wentworth likes you?"
"Plenty of people like me. I honestly haven’t noticed her; I’ve only noticed you."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but laugh. "Don’t try to change the subject. I’m being serious."
"I’m being serious too." Jett Sterling caressed her face. "Vivian, just like how there are many people around you who like you, do you observe each one to see just how much they like you? You don’t, and naturally, neither do I."
Vivian Quinn shook her head. "Shirley Wentworth is different from your other admirers now. You two have a child together. The child is the bond between you. You’ll always have a connection that can’t be severed."
