Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 170: Afraid I’ll Steal You Away
Shirley Wentworth flinched but quickly composed herself. Brimming with righteous indignation, she said, "Jett, she has a guilty conscience! She’s afraid I’ll steal you away, so she’s completely neglecting your own son. How can a woman like that possibly be worthy of you!"
The moment she finished speaking, Jett Sterling’s expression turned even colder. "Shirley Wentworth, you’ve crossed a line."
"I’m telling the truth!" Shirley Wentworth stood up, insisting self-righteously, "For families like ours, marriage isn’t just about two people getting married. You married the public face of the Sterling Family, and Vivian Quinn clearly isn’t fit to bear that responsibility!"
"Who said anything about ’us’?" Jett Sterling said coldly. "Tell me, in what capacity are you standing here and berating my wife?"
Shirley Wentworth was rendered speechless by the question, her chest heaving violently.
"Shirley Wentworth," Jett Sterling said, looking at her, "I want you to go back to the Wentworth Family and handle this. And by ’handle this,’ I mean that Elle’s existence will go no further than the people in this room. If anyone else finds out about him, I will hold the Wentworth Family accountable."
"My uncle is right," Ian Sterling added. "If word about Elle gets out, you’ll be gossiped about for having a child out of wedlock, not to mention how awkward it will be for Vivian Quinn. It’s bad for everyone. You’re a smart woman. If I can understand this, you certainly can. Are you going to take Elle with you, or leave him here?"
Shirley Wentworth closed her eyes, forced to compromise. "Elle will undoubtedly receive the best care here. As long as you treat him well, I can leave."
She stood up, nodded at Jett Sterling, and said through choked sobs, "Jett, please, you must be good to Elle. Even if you don’t like him, he’s your biological son. He has your blood running through his veins, and he has the same illness as you."
Jett Sterling remained expressionless. "When has he ever been mistreated at Sycamore Bay to make you say such a thing?"
Shirley Wentworth wept silently, saying nothing more.
Jett Sterling ordered, "Nanny Jenner, see our guest out."
"Yes, sir." Nanny Jenner stepped forward and said politely, "Miss Wentworth, this way, please. Young Master Elle will be fine at Sycamore Bay."
Shirley Wentworth secretly gritted her teeth before turning to leave.
"She’s finally gone." Ian Sterling breathed a sigh of relief. "I’m going to change. Call me when dinner’s ready."
Jett Sterling looked at the quiet young woman beside him and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing much."
"Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it."
"Okay." Vivian Quinn offered a small smile. "I’ll go wake Elle up for dinner."
"Alright."
Vivian Quinn went to Elle’s room. Looking at his small, sleeping face, that strange sense of affinity washed over her again.
’She felt as if some force was guiding her, drawing her closer to Elle!’
Vivian Quinn leaned down and gently kissed Elle’s cheek, watching him quietly.
"Ma’am." Nanny Jenner came in and couldn’t help but smile at the scene. "You like Elle so much, yet you were willing to let Miss Wentworth take him just now?"
"Of course I wasn’t. But you have to weigh the pros and cons in any situation. Shirley Wentworth is trying to steal my husband, so I certainly can’t let her stay in this house."
"Good thing she left the young master behind. At least she was considerate of his health."
"I’m afraid there’s more to it than that." Vivian Quinn gave a faint smile. "By leaving the child here, she has an excuse to keep pestering Jett."
"You’re right, Ma’am!" Nanny Jenner realized. "Then why didn’t you insist she take the boy with her?"
"Elle is in so much pain when his illness flares up. If there’s any chance to lessen his suffering, what does it matter if we adults make a small concession?"
Nanny Jenner nodded. "That’s true."
Elle’s eyes fluttered open. When he saw Vivian Quinn, they instantly lit up. "Vivian!"
"Elle, time to get up for dinner."
"Okay."
Vivian Quinn brought over his clothes and helped him get dressed. "Elle, your mommy isn’t here today. If you miss her, you can call her."
"Okay."
Elle was very well-behaved, holding his own spoon and eating heartily.
Watching him, Vivian Quinn felt her heart melt. "Eat up. After dinner, we’ll go for a walk to get some exercise."
"Okay! I love going for walks with you, Vivian!"
"From now on, I’ll walk with you every day."
"Mhm!"
Ian Sterling wasn’t about to miss out on the fun, so he joined them in the garden after dinner.
Elle had a great time and didn’t want to go back inside, running and jumping until he was covered in sweat.
Vivian Quinn finally managed to coax him back into the house and carried him to his room for a bath.
"I’m stinky!" Elle was a proud little boy. "You can go, Vivian. I’ll wash myself."
Vivian Quinn chuckled. "I don’t think you’re stinky at all."
"Really?"
"Of course."
Elle said happily, "Then you can help me wash, Vivian."
"Okay."
It was Vivian Quinn’s first time bathing a child, and it felt strangely wonderful.
Elle wasn’t fat or skinny, but he had a little round tummy that was absolutely adorable!
Vivian Quinn couldn’t resist patting it again and again.
"Vivian, your hands are so soft. Even softer than my mommy’s."
Vivian Quinn felt a little embarrassed. "I’m not as capable as your mommy. I’m not very good at giving baths, so I hope you don’t mind."
"I don’t! I like you, Vivian."
"Good."
After his bath, Vivian Quinn carried Elle out of the bathroom and dressed him in his pajamas. "Since your mommy isn’t here tonight, I’ll stay with you until you fall asleep."
"I want to hear you sing, Vivian."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t say no, so she sang a song for him.
Watching Elle slowly drift off to sleep, she couldn’t resist kissing his forehead again.
Nanny Jenner opened the door and came in, whispering with a smile, "Ma’am, since you like children so much, why not have one of your own soon to keep Elle company?"
Vivian Quinn gently patted Elle’s back. "One sick child is already heartbreaking enough. If there were another, none of us could bear it."
Nanny Jenner was left speechless.
"I was just talking. Don’t be upset," Vivian Quinn consoled her. "Jett and I have already discussed it. We’re not having children for now. We’ll wait until we find a cure for his illness."
"That’s for the best."
Vivian Quinn rose carefully. "I’m going to get some rest. You should sleep early too. If Elle needs anything, just call me."
"Yes, Ma’am."
When Vivian Quinn returned to the master bedroom, Jett Sterling was on the phone. "I don’t care what methods you have to use, this ends now. If these rumors cause my wife any harm, you won’t be able to bear the consequences..."
Vivian Quinn hesitated for a moment but decided not to press him for details. She went straight into the bathroom to take a shower.
After her shower, she realized she hadn’t brought her pajamas in with her. Wrapping a towel around herself, she went to step out, only to open the door and walk straight into a hard chest.
"Ah!" Vivian Quinn cried out as the man pulled her into his arms.
"Let me go," Vivian Quinn struggled.
Jett Sterling released her, but the next second, the towel wrapped around her body fell to the floor!
