What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 89: Time To Escape The Tunnels

We ran through the tunnels, not even looking back as we rushed towards the portal with me taking up the rear.

Yeah... We’re not suicidal enough to try and face that big of an army of Anomalies just by ourselves... Especially when I’ve not even fully awakened my powers yet.

As we were running up the spiral towards the top of the chasm, a loud crash could be heard coming from the direction of the tunnels below us.

Risking a peek over the ledge, I saw several Anomalies rushing through the bottom of the chasm, a few of them stopping to look straight up towards me before they made a run for the slope to join the others..

"They’re coming. Move!" I ordered, prompting the others at the front to double their speed.

I heard scrambling at the side and I risked another peek to see a few Anomalies with longer limbs were climbing up the side of the chasm instead of using the slope.

I charged up my lightning and shot a bolt at one of them, striking it in the chest and knocking it off the side.

It fell towards the ground and smashed into a crowd of Anomalies, turning them into meat paste amongst the scattered rock pieces.

I ran up a few more steps and charged up another lightning before stopping to fire at another Anomaly climbing up on the opposite side, throwing it down to the bottom floor as well.

I also got to see that the Anomalies that were chasing us up the ramp were now only three floors below us and they were closing fast. Unlike the ones that we’ve seen so far, these were smaller and looked to be quadrupedal and only had small traces of rock armour on them, allowing them to move faster.

At this rate, they would catch up to us before we could reach the exit.

While these smaller Anomalies look more fragile and easily destroyed, there were dozens of them and I don’t fancy being dragged down by them.

I chased after my Guardians, focusing on running for now as we got closer to the top.

A hand suddenly appeared to grab onto the ledge beside me and an Anomaly pulled itself up, attempting to climb over the ledge to reach us.

I was about to punch it when Leena turned her upper body to fire a burst of machine gun rounds into the Anomaly, her bullets piercing through the exposed parts of the creature and forcing it back.

Which in turn ended up causing the Anomaly to fall back down towards the bottom of the chasm.

We rounded up to another floor and I grimaced as I saw the Anomalies were just a floor below us now.

Conversely, we still had three more floors to go before we even reached the top floor.

"Mortal God!" Leena cried out, tossing several things over to me.

I snatched them out of the air to see that they were grenades. Specifically, the SFG eighty seven, a model that I was quite familiar with.

I don’t think this is enough to stop them but I guess this was better than nothing so I stuffed them into my pockets.

We ran up another floor and I heard the sound of the Anomalies closing behind us so I went ahead to pull a grenade out to hold in my hands, slipping my finger into the ring and giving it a twist before pulling it out.

I chanced a look behind me and found the first Anomaly rounding the bend, the creature bounding its way up the slope towards us.

I released my grip on the striker lever and rolled the grenade behind me without slowing down.

Without waiting, I quickly pulled out another grenade and did the same thing, holding onto it tightly as the first one exploded right in front of the lead Anomaly.

The explosion tore through the lead anomaly as the fragmentation pierced through the exposed flesh of the creatures in the blast radius and stalling them for just a second.

The sudden explosion caused a few of the Anomalies at the back to crash into the ones that had been forced to stop, entangling them and causing a small pile up.

I took that chance to lob the second grenade into the crowd, not bothering to look at it as it exploded in the pile of Anomalies.

Just one more floor and we would be able to get out of this chasm... Then it would be through the tunnels to the portal which hopefully aren’t infested with Anomalies already...

Right then, I heard a crash coming from behind and turned my head to see one of the Anomalies had somehow used the force of the explosion to launch itself towards me instead.

Its mouth opened impossibly wide to show rows of serrated teeth and it was prepared to chomp down on my face.

I immediately swung my fist from below in an uppercut, my knuckle smashing into the underside of its jaw and launching the creature flying up into the ceiling and smashing into it.

The Anomaly got reduced into a blood splatter on the ceiling as the rock armour was smashed into pieces, its half destroyed body stuck to the ceiling.

"My Lord!!" Olivia called out from the front.

I spun around to see that we were already reaching the end and everyone was trying to squeeze through the small hole that was the entrance to the colony.

I sprinted the last few metres as Leena covered my retreat, the centauress laying down a quick burst of machinegun fire directed at the Anomalies behind me.

As I was about to reach them, a long limbed Anomaly suddenly pulled itself up from the ledge and swung its arm at me in an attempt to smack me back towards its smaller brethren.

I had to skid to a stop and raised my arms in defence, the creature’s arm slamming into me with a loud thud.

Thankfully, I was stronger in terms of strength and I managed to take the blow without moving.

As I prepared to retaliate, a bolt of lightning came crashing into the Anomaly from the side, courtesy of Olivia.

The creature was sent flying back to crash into the quadrupedal Anomalies, buying me some time to close the final distance to reach the rest of my Guardians.

We quickly squeezed through the tunnel with me still taking up the rear, the sounds of scrabbling coming up uncomfortably close behind me.

I got through the tunnel right as an Anomaly snapped at my heels, missing me by an inch.

Sergei pointed his palm at it to skewer its head with a shadow spike and Olivia smashed a part of the wall to pull out a large chunk of rock to drop in front of the tunnel, blocking the entrance.

The quadrupedal Anomalies scratched at the rock but while they were faster than their brethren, they did not have the strength to move this rock.

We were still not safe yet as there were no doubt more Anomalies around that might use another route to get to us.

We immediately picked ourselves up again to rush towards the portal room.

Sure enough, several of them appeared along the way but thankfully they were just small groups that had wandered over into our path so we struck them down easily enough.

I took over the lead and rushed straight into the cavern that had the portal, fully expecting to see another giant Anomaly inside.

Luck seemed to be on our side as the cavern was completely empty, allowing us to make a run towards the portal and leap straight through.

As I let the others run through the portal first, I caught the sight of a black hole appearing near the roof of the cavern before the Anomaly wielding the rock staff appeared in the air.

What the fuck is that?! Is that magic?!! This Anomaly can use magic?!! 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

It floated in the air and pointed its staff down at me, directing one of the floating rocks to shoot itself towards me like a bullet.

I swung my fist in front of me in an arc, smashing the rock bullet apart before it could reach me.

I tried to counter attack with a lightning bolt that I punched towards the Anomaly, only for it to block the attack by forming a stone wall in front of it.

The stone wall then broke apart before more rock bullets were sent flying towards me, way more than I could smash with my fists.

Jia Lian quickly materialised a shield wall in front of me, the rocks pelting against her shield uselessly.

"Go!" She cried out, slowly backing up towards the portal.

I held onto her shoulder, guiding her along as the rock bullet storm intensified, the sight making me think of a hailstorm smashing themselves against a window.

We managed to pass through the portal before her shield broke and I watched the portal in case it came through it but it seems like the Anomaly was still stuck behind that portal since it has not stabilised yet.

Well... At least we made it back alive...
